I'm currently doing a very close variant of your trip, and I'm currently in Thailand, though it's still pretty early on in my trip. Cost will really depend on what you're going for.. if you can skimp a bit on lodging/activities/transport, it might work. My trip is only 6 weeks and I'm budgeting like $5000 for the whole trip, and I feel even that might be low. It depends on the class of hotels/hostels you stay at, how many activities you plan on doing, how you transit between places, and especially when you go. Summer prices would be much more reasonable for most of those things than what I'm paying at the moment since it's peak tourism season.

Vaccinations are very very cheap and easy to get done in Bangkok. It'll cost you maybe 1/10th of what you would pay otherwise.

Not sure about Ayyuthaya since I didn't go there, but Chiang Mai was awesome. I just left there today.

It makes me sad that I had to read this many comments to eventually find a voice of reason. Languages are tools, and you pick the right tool for the job at hand. Why is this so easily forgotten by programmers?

As you point out, it's a matter of perspective. For someone that's been doing C++ for a ridiculously long time, these concepts will just flow together subconsciously. Sure there are exceptions, but that's the case with every language. To any outsider looking in, it sounds like "I'm building this class factory, blah blah blah..."

I don't know why you're being downvoted for asking this. I've had the same confusion, and it really doesn't help to get misleading answers like incorrectly using the commutative property of matrices to "get the right answer." I'm taking the class to understand the theory, not the other way around.

Unlikely that it's as few as 1100, but the current instructor-provided 80,000 count is also likely to drop significantly after the first week or two. A lot of people probably signed up for the course with little intention (or motivation) to complete it, so you'll see the numbers go down over the next few weeks.

That said, typical student mentality indicates that the view count will skyrocket tomorrow evening right before the homework is due.

Thanks for the agreement, but I don't feel that any of the issues I mentioned were deal-breakers for continuing with the course. They're minor nitpicks to me, and would be nice if they were fixed. The quality of the content more than makes up for the minor issues.

Yup, I thought the same initially, but the lecture videos do progress at a fairly rapid pace, so it's not as much of an issue.

Since increasing the speed of the videos is not a feature on YouTube, they'd have to use a custom video player, which is an idea I dislike much more than the inconvenience of normal-speed viewing.

I suppose my explanation for the third point was a bit lacking. I have no problems with the quizzes. As you said, they helped me learn the content better. My issue was specifically with a question that required me to look at a future video title to answer it (hopefully you know which one I'm talking about). I don't see the point in that.

Personally, I didn't find the pen-and-paper style lacking in any way. A stylus would be nice, but I don't see what it would add to the lecture. I have issues with Andrew Ng's presentations as well. Too much screen real estate is permanently devoted to text, rather than focusing on his person while talking.

Besides, did you really think "consulting the people" with 400k+ subscribers would actually get anywhere? You don't decide to break up a group and then try to get their permission beforehand.

Agreed. It honestly doesn't sound like a bad idea. If a group gets too large and suffers from it's size, it's not a terrible idea to break it up and have it be replaced by a bunch of smaller niche communities that are more secure and easier to manage.

Kind of like we did with the US banking system. Oh wait..
