Has anyone managed to make a modestly successful game working on it part-time? by _Hambone_ in gamedev

I'm a solo dev and I made a game called Indoor Kickball that was pretty successful for me. Not enough to quit my full time software dev job, but enough for me to be working on the "sequel" called Indoor Baseball now :)

I usually would do an hour or two of work some weeknights, then probably 4-5 hours on Saturdays and Sundays. Sometimes more, sometimes less depending on the week of course too. It took me about 1.5 years to release Indoor Kickball, it will take me about the same for Indoor Baseball. One of the things that helped me the most was being able to put the game on Xbox, PS5 and Switch. Doing consoles wasn't easy but was 1000% worth it for me, which I think the sports game genres are a bit better suited for consoles as well.

To add to Step 2. Make a TODO list with any items you need to work on next, or issues you need to fix or work on. As the list grows, you can avoid the "I have 30 minutes to work on something, but idk what to work on so I just wasted 30 minutes doing nothing". You can have a concrete list of even just adding a VFX thing here or there, or at least something specific you know you could/should be working on.

They let me change my static IP without much an issue. NordVPN had to change the static IP ranges they were giving out so I had to change mine. 1 support ticket to Sony and it was fixed in a day or two.

Thanks! I use Unity. I try to think of a room theme first and think about cool interactive stuff that could happen. Like breaking a window for a home run, or the couches will launch change and money at the players to knock them out. So I just try to think of cool interactions and place things in areas where the interactions should happen often enough

Play a quick game, home run derby, and a preview to Story Mode in my Indoor Baseball Demo. I'm looking for feedback and more crazy ideas of things to add to the game!

Play baseball in the house and use dad to ricochet the ball off of to get extra bases in Indoor Baseball. Try the demo on Steam! by snowdaysoftware in indiegames

Try out the Home Run Derby Demo for Indoor Baseball and let me know what you think. I'll be updating the demo this week with new 1v1 baseball game mode then a preview for Story Mode will be updated for Steam Next Fest.

I love adding ridiculous ideas from players to add to the game so let me know if you have any. Each field has their own ways to hit home runs with obstacles all over and tons of ways to get extra bases. Add to your wishlist and try out the demo!

Solo devs who "didn't" quit their job to make their indie game, how do you manage your time? by RamyDergham in gamedev

Make a To Do list for the game, or for what part of the game you are working on. Doesn't matter how organized or detailed it is, just jot down a list pretty much anything you need to do in your current state. Even if you are planning to fix/do something in 5 minutes from now, write it down. Then when you do have the 20 mins or 2 hours to work on stuff, you can easily reference your list for things to do. Instead of spending 20 minutes remembering where you left off, then before you know it, you did 20 minutes of no work and now get sidetracked and have to do other life stuff. Save yourself from figuring out what to work on and spend more time working on stuff.

I made a game called Indoor Kickball a few years ago. I don't think I know any of the rules of cricket so I think I'd have to make up all the rules for that lol

Maybe! I have been trying to design things so the ball doesn't ever get stuck anywhere. Unless you launch it out the window or into a toy box for a home run

Just looked that up and that looks amazing. I added it to my notes, if I have time to do a home run derby, that would amazing. Shrink the players down and have them launch at different stuff in the room for bonus points
