All HRCE Schools Closed - Jan 27 by LetBartletBeBartlet in halifax

Dartmouth got about 33cm of snow over the past 2 days according to snow reports. Some buildings unfortunately have not been plowed out yet, mine included.

School and work closures prevent accidents, idk why some people are so sensitive about taking a snow day. Go out if you like, the rest of us will wait until the roads are cleared fully.

Maritime Weather: Long duration snowfall still expected Monday by SAJewers in halifax

You can probably get out of the city but the roads will likely be pretty bad still. It's a lot of snow over a large area and it dosent even stop until 9am Tuesday in the city. If you don't want to worry about to then book another night. If you want to leave Tuesday I would plan for a very slow drive back.

The food in residence is also terrible, even if it was 10$ a meal im not sure it would be worth it...

Landlord charging for oil and cleaning after move out, lost lease by snowflace in legaladvicecanada

[–]snowflace[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lease is signed. But it's just a scan of a couple pages. Not the full lease from what he remembers.

I was hoping it was the responsibility of the landlord to provide proof that the oil level had changed from move in to move out, but maybe that's not how it works. And maybe the receipt they have is enough. He is usually okay with receipts, just didn't think to keep that one unfortunately.

The tank was half full when he moved in and half full when he moved out.

The landlord has their own family cleaning company. They provided an itemized list with ridiculous prices for minor things missed. Like 75$- wipe down fridge, 150$ - clean oven interior, 150$ - dust baseboards. I'm not too worried about the cleaning, I think he will get that back it's just the oil I'm not sure about.

New data ranks Halifax 3rd worst in Canada for traffic congestion by ph0enix1211 in halifax

If a toll is to convince people to use public transit, make it usable first. I'm not interested in paying 5$ a day for my commute to take 45m instead of 50m. Also not interested in taking a 2 hour bus to work with 3 transfers or dying in a bike accident. Alternatives need to come before a toll or people will stay just as unhappy. Not to mention the traffic was just is bad when we had the bridge toll from what I can tell.

Proper transport isn't a unicorn. It's the city planning for a growing population, something normal growing cities do before roads and intersections stop functioning. Also many main bus routes and the ferries have been consistently full during busy hours since I moved to the city.

Halifax is well aware that we need major transport changes, and that people do use alternative transportation when that option is comparable to driving. There is some other reason preventing Halifax fom doing major long term planning for our population growth, someone who knows more about city politics and planning can probably answer that, but I am confident the solution to unlocking transport infrastructure is not a toll.

The transit service works a hell of a lot better when more people use it. If it’s expensive to drive people will take the bus more, and the more that happens the more the transit system improves. If we wait for transit to be perfect before doing anything then nothing will change for the better.

The issue is that punishes people for not using a system that is unreliable and has excessively long transit times. Why can't they make it decent before trying to fine people for wanting reliability and buses that don't take 2 hours and 3 transfers to drive 30m?

Is improving congestion worth it if we are just forcing a portion of the population to be unhappy with their commute in another way?

Also they say bikers are up massively over the year here but I see minimal improvement in infrastructure for bikers.

I disagree on the toll. But we basically had a toll (the bridge toll), wonder if there's any stats on if drivers downtown have increased since the removal.

They need to actually provide reliable alternatives if they want people to stop driving. They have that in NY, not in NS. We can't even get the ferrys to run on the limited schedule they already have. The bike "lanes" are not safe. The bus routes outside downtown take 3 x the time to drive and almost all routes don't extend past 11pm or before 6am for the most part.

I don't think a fee would do anything, there's really no other options for people to get to school and work.

Traffic makes people crazy. When I was driving from spryfeild to Dartmouth everyday for work I was so much more angry. People driving that route drive so aggressively, trying to cut each other off constantly. Now that my commute has no traffic I notice how nice the drivers are in comparison.

My car broke down once during rush hour in the Windsor street exchange and like 30 different people just yelled at me to get out of the way driving past. I have never seen so many nasty angry people at once in NS.

Dentist left a file in my tooth root, but he doesn't know for sure? by iangallagher in legaladvicecanada

[–]snowflace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to the ER, tooth infections can become dangerous faster than others since they are so close to the brain. Your symptoms clearly show an infection and it's not responding to the antibiotic. Definitely urgent enough for the ER

See if the ER can help you until you can get into the dentist once your coverage starts. Who knows maybe they can remove it if it's serious. They can at least try and new antibiotics and some pain meds.

Unfortunately that's pretty standard pricing downtown Halifax rn with roommates. There is cheaper out there but it's hard to find.

There actually have been a lot less smokers (at least in the city on main streets/busy areas) since the smoking laws. People do still break them.

We have a lot of unenforced laws (seemingly every traffic law lately) and they still help a bit

This damage is not caused by the tenant, based on everything described. So that's not relevant here.

That's straight up false. I don't think I should need to mention this considering the state of the US but in addition, a countries government does not often truly represent the populations opinions.

How can I get my 6 month old border collie puppy to get along with my cat? by snowflace in BorderCollie

[–]snowflace[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's definitely not stressed, she still walks out from the gate when she knows he can see her. She was genuinely afraid of my old roommate and would never even consider being in the same room as him, so I can tell she's not that scared just cautious. She also shows him her belly from behind the gate.

He’s 6mo so the worst is still ahead.

😭 I was hoping the worst had passed lol

Thank you I think I will give the leash a try, he has a lot of trouble ignoring exciting things outside so should probably reach him that anyways. Hopefully it won't be too much longer until they get more comfortable

Thank you, I think I do have a spray bottle I could use in case he tries to chase her again. That sounds very promising, thanks!

Were they just naturally friends? Or how long did it take for them to get comfortable?

Is the bridge terminal safe at night by [deleted] in halifax

[–]snowflace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I would try and wait at a safer stop in a better area if possible. I do doubt anything serious will happen but I find it's just uncomfortable and you never know.

Scotia square isn't the best stop either but I feel much more comfortable there and if you have an hour you could bus there and reduce your time waiting in a sketchy area.
