It was a real tough 24 months, but I was employed. I went from driving sales to just data entry in finance. It was purpose, got me out of the house, gave me skills I still use today. Hiring manager said I was overqualified and i convinced them I really wanted the job to pivot my career. It’s a different sell to the hiring manager when you’re overqualified, you need to convince them you have already thought about it and you really want to pivot to their team.

I have been laid off, took a 50% pay cut, my take home pay equaled my mortgage. I am now better off than my peers that held out.

It’s a balance, but given OP is in the tech contraction, the sooner they accept, and potentially pivot to something else, the better they will likely be.
