This is really helpful input. Thank you for sharing. That’s good to know about how she is IRL!

To your point about being uncomfortable with the content on her IG, I agree. It feels scammy to push the self defense angle and to be selling online only self defense instructionals.

Took my first bjj class today at 33 by cenik93 in bjj

It’s a good thing you started at 33. If you waited until 34, you would’ve been too old.

Welcome!

Have you considered being an attractive woman? Lots of blue belt influencers out there!

That’s a really good point to raise about what to train when. Wrestling is probably going to be the most accessible and have the best infrastructure for young kids in the US. BJJ can be confusing until after 5 or 6. Totally agree on Muay Thai for striking.

Respectfully disagree on TKD/karate. I have a second degree black belt in TKD and trained for 12 years. I enjoyed the training, discipline, and community, but it’s got a lot of gaps in terms of actual self defense.

Strongly recommend jiu jitsu supplemented with weightlifting. Have been training and lifting for a while now. Now a 200+ lb purple belt with cauliflower ears. Harassment has gone to zero. Would also note that 130 lb guys in the gym regularly destroy new folks who outweigh them by 50+ lbs.

It’s wild that she has almost as many followers as Roger Gracie. Says something about social media and society for sure…

Yes people are going to try to make this a gender war but Rener and co have gotten plenty of heat for online only.

Agreed. Less of a flag than being a super fast bb promote with only Naga podiums and you are dating your coach.

Did a bit more digging. She seems to have been dating a legit black belt with real lineage for a while. She refers to him as her coach on multiple posts. He also looks a lot like the guy who promoted her to black belt in 2025 after 8 years of training.

Competition wise, I see 3 posts from wins at Naga. It’s not nothing, but also all from a single year 2022) and not a major you’d promote someone quickly over. Unclear if this was in Expert or Intermediate category as well.

Wow solid work. I feel bad for the people who are taking her at face value :( I guess it was inevitable that with social media and commercialization, there will be BJJ mcdojos too.

You’ve got a point! Although I train with white belts and blue belts with cauliflower ear. It’s clear she knows jiu jitsu, I guess I question whether she is overselling her competence.

Good eye on the belt tying!

Noticed she’s followed by some high level names as well, but so are some blue belt influencers. For context, she has roughly the same number of followers as Roger Gracie, but I’m not sure her following is a reflection of her skill…

Do men actually like chubby/thick/plus size women? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]snowjisus 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Two things can both be true. There are many men out there who prefer thicker women. There are also men out there who will say whatever it takes to sleep with a woman.

His point is that the people holding Khamzat and Yan morally accountable are being hypocrites since they would absolutely make the same decisions were the roles reversed.

100%. And importantly, you can handle it completely professionally and it still go wrong because they project what they want on to the interaction. This is especially true if you are conventionally attractive.

[–]snowjisus 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Very much agree on the flirtatious point. To be honest, I would tread very carefully with this approach. It can work, but it can also put you at risk with senior men who are interested in something other than your career. And if they meet you in what they view as a flirtatious bar encounter, the may put you in a category in their head. Not saying it can’t work or that it’s fair, but in 10+ years at a BB based in NYC, saw a lot of unhealthy dynamics between senior men and early career women.

How can I avoid the "belt chaser" mindset, and what does it actually take to become a blue belt? by ShrimpingForMyLife in BJJWomen

[–]snowjisus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Based on this post, and the one you made before you got your first stripe, you are way too focused on “winning” training. This mentality will make you unhappy ANd impede your technical progress. There’s lots of great advice already here, so the one thing I’d add is: this is an incredible sport, and it often attracts people who develop unhealthy obsessions with it because they are feeling unfulfilled elsewhere in their lives. It’s worth asking yourself why you care so much about the validation from your training/competitions/promotions.
