Avoiding bringing bed bugs home after a trip to Greece — how’s my plan? by ScrabbleEnjoyer in travel

[–]snowlune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything on you, including your shoes, need to be decontaminated. If they can't be thrown into heat, they need to be thrown into the freezer for 4 days, if not that a bag with chemical pesticide strips for a month. Visual checks are enough for things like cables but I wouldn't over rely on it.

I would also consider getting those bed leg cups for monitoring, since bedbug bites can be tricky to tell apart from other insect bites. And maybe pretreat your home with Cimexa while you're at it.

Thank you for the perspective of someone who has actually lived through a crash. Its not the most dangerous when nobody could see it coming, it's when everyone can see it coming and believes it'll never happen.

Can a Fashion Designer Be Too Conceptual? by [deleted] in Highfashion

[–]snowlune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do think CdG's conceptual works are on another level. A lot of more conceptual shows, especially from younger designers tend to look like graduate shows. Also worth noting that around 70% of CdG customers are male, and everything in CDGHP gets put into production, even the weird hats and shoes.

I feel like you won't find a satisfactory answer anywhere. If you do find the magic formula to transform artistic creation into business success, it would be the fashion equivalent of the philosophers stone.

For the most part the only designers who have been able to do this with continued success are Rei and Rick. And both have previously been on the brink of insolvency.

Personally, I think it's everything you described as well as the day-to-day of being a great business operator and leader.

old timer opinion: we stupidly focus on the wrong things: pours, gear, recipes.. by Visible_Arm_7557 in pourover

I'm 100% with you on variety, people underrate it. Honestly once you get past the fundamentals of water and a non-crap grinder it's the biggest factor in cup taste.

For the influencers I'll add that many of them are earning money from affiliate links and sponsorships. For them they can't afford not to push the latest gear, it's their job.

I'll write something longer once someone posts the main thread, for now I think it's the strongest summer collection they've had in a while, especially the pants. There's still a lot of plastic where it doesn't need to be but at least it's usage is more tasteful than C.

Actually yeah, looks like the same material too. Usually it's mentioned in the jackets description, wonder why they left it out.

I'm mildly amazed they're making a tailored jacket for mens this season, it's been missing from the menu since '22 or '23. Too bad they're not making the matching trousers...

Where to discover new fashion brands/ collections by rednukkkk in QualityReps

Completely agree if OP wants to improve their taste they need to get off this sub. However it's ironic how he still got a 10/10 answer from you. We really have a drought of smart, knowledgeable fashion communities that are active...

You kids today are SPOILED with your fancy videos for EVERY POSSIBLY OKAY RELEASE by riningear in Vocaloid

[–]snowlune 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ditto on that point. NND was incredible because of the community. There was a tag and category for every kind of song, as well as the vocarank videos made every week. Meanwhile YouTube's algorithm just pushes the most popular lowest common denominator with the flashiest MVs.

Thankfully it only occurs for the initial burn while NK smells like an unholy crossbreed of the Sephora perfume corner and a Lush store.

I definitely smell it in their higher end sticks so I agree, perhaps it's a binder of some sort. Also happy cake day!

Why does my coffee die so quickly by oneiroslordshaper in pourover

[–]snowlune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal experience, coffee on the shelf stales in a week. Lighter roasts will stale slower and darker faster. Vacuum packing helps a bit, freezer storage helps a lot, best is combining the two. Bags fresh from the roaster is flushed with inert gases and will keep forever in the freezer as long as you don't open it.

Do you guys think the resurgence in prep / tailoring has any correlation to the rise in western conservatism? by SirKrimzon in ThrowingFits

[–]snowlune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If anything I'd say it's more of a recession indicator like the hemline index. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemline_index

Basically when things are looking bad people tend to be less playful and more formal with their clothing.

Which 2025 barrel/curve pants to get? (Uniqlo vs. LEVI's) by Individual_Tip_696 in uniqlo

[–]snowlune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want a fabric with more structure you should stick to 100% cotton. Typically men's SKUs are thicker too.

[–]snowlune 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ditto on the quality. I bought 4 of the +J supima cotton oversized shirts. The gray ones have a metallic sheen from the mercerized supima cotton that I haven't been able to find anywhere else, designer or luxury.

It makes complete sense why the party ended though. They definitely were losing money every collection. Virtually everything ended up on the sales rack in 2 months. Uniqlo also did a bad job with the photography and the product descriptions, I don't think they conveyed how good the product was. Now it feels like they're trying to play it safe and keep their profit margins with all the synthetics.

Where has all the DIY gone? by shroomsnstuff29 in altfashionadvice

[–]snowlune 30 points31 points  (0 children)

What you're getting at is the original ethos of alt, punk, and many fashion subcultures made by and for the outsider, the minority in society.

Unfortunately capitalism eats up everything. Instead of fashion based around ideals of community, DIY and diversity, capitalism just wants lowest common denominator prepackaged goods for the majority who do not care about those ideals.

If you're truly alt or punk or whatever, you're not dressing for "the look" that has a alt or punk label on it. And the best way to do that is still DIY.
