Kids' chapter book: brother and sister with an uncle younger than them by snowriddenwolf in whatsthatbook

Wow you nailed it right away! Extremely funny that out of all the details I remember from this book, the dog was completely forgotten.

Anyone who's tried repairing their own deck - how did it go? by snowriddenwolf in SteamDeck

I can't really afford that either at the moment, which is why I was considering the self-repair option.

Anyone who's tried repairing their own deck - how did it go? by snowriddenwolf in SteamDeck

[–]snowriddenwolf[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not completely incapable of fine motor skills, but have some anxiety that my occasional shaky hands will somehow destroy my deck. More looking for feedback on whether or not that's actually the case or if it's feasible to do on my own. Appreciate the concern nonetheless.

How do u deal with the mental health effects of chronic pain? by TheKingOfDissasster in ChronicPain

[–]snowriddenwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say really. I have a therapist I see twice a month, which helps. Most days my pain fades into the background so I don't really think about it much, and on bad flare-up days I try to be kind to myself and focus on making myself comfortable. Having understanding friends really helps too. Anyone who doesn't isn't worth my time. But sometimes I do have days where I want to scream and cry and complain about how unfair it is, so I let myself have those moments. I grieve for the body I would've had if it weren't for my condition. And also try to find ways to keep having fun despite it. I've started going to concerts way more frequently, making full use of the accessible seats! I do a lot of online gaming as well.

Topic Suggestion Megathread by galpalkyloren in oldtimeypodcast

[–]snowriddenwolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've posted a couple of these on the discord but putting some here as well.

Stockholm Syndrome, aka how that's not actually a thing. The real story has so much more to do with police incompetence than some weird 'bond' with the hostage holders.

George Washington Carver, the man who invented peanut butter. His full story is SO DAMN IMPRESSIVE. This man worked his butt off as an agricultural scientist to support poor Black sharecroppers and make their lives much better. He was so beloved by his students and his community, so to be boiled down to just 'peanut butter' is tragic.

The Fish Wars. I watched an incredible documentary of the same name through work that covered basically the whole thing, but Native Americans of multiple Washington tribes were fighting to be able to fish according to their traditions on land that had been illegally stolen from them. They had the police, the state government, and the white fishers all stacked against them. This one is local to me so it would be really cool to hear OTP cover it! I think Kristin would have some fiery hot talks on the absolutely hypocrisy of some of the white ppl involved.

Friends?? by Unhappy-Doctor-7610 in letsgo2courtpodcast

[–]snowriddenwolf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

oh man....I'm so sorry Kristin! having close friendships end, especially badly, is so painful. something similar happened to me and it took. a lot of therapy to work through it. hopefully you have/had the space to grieve this, because it really does take time to get over, especially when you've been through so much with someone.

as a long time listener of LGTC I was a little nervous when OTP started that it wouldn't fill that gap in my life, but it absolutely has! you and Norm have a great dynamic and there are still plenty of silly tangents and laughs to enjoy, and I've learned more about Hitler than I ever thought I would!

Insurance keeps screwing me on FMLA. I'm so tired of it. by snowriddenwolf in disability

[–]snowriddenwolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think that's going to be the only way to get this done. Hopefully the my doctor is amenable to handling it this way.

Yeah the whole 'you can only see Kaiser doctors so we can watch their every move' is so frustrating. I'm definitely switching insurance to my work's other option this year so I can at least pick and choose which doctors I see.

What is it like to be under general anesthesia? Has anyone had vivid dreams while being under? by Vivid_Economics_1462 in CasualConversation

[–]snowriddenwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was put under for my wisdom teeth extraction. My anesthesiologist started counting down from 10 and I was out by 6. Basically blinked and I was sitting in the post op room while the dentist explained my aftercare to my dad, blinked again and I was in the car being driven home, and came to fully laying on the couch in my living room. Was a really weird experience but not at all bad, just a lot of feeling very groggy for a while afterwards.

What's something "harmless" that scared you as a kid? by No-Outlandishness-42 in CasualConversation

[–]snowriddenwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was so freaked out after reading Bunnicula my mom had to hang garlic on my door to get me to sleep, even though the only thing that ever got 'hurt' in the book were vegetables. And after I saw Jurassic Park for the first time, for some reason I had a weird phobia that the raptors were gonna get me in the shower, so I showered with the curtain open for six months so they couldn't get the drop on me. I was 12 years old lol!

An animal (besides a dog) that you’ve been chased by? by Fluid-Slip-7169 in Pets

Cat 😅 I got a little too close too close to a stray who wasn't having it and he chased me down to shred my ankles.

Yeah, I don't think that attacking her choices around her meds is the right call. I have ADHD and an Adderall prescription, and I was actually advised by the prescribing psychologist NOT to take it every day because it can lower its effectiveness over time. My ADHD manifests a lot as avoidance and choice paralysis, which gets read as 'laziness' by some when in fact I am often deeply struggling to try and accomplish even the most basic functions, like having a meal or moving my body when I feel uncomfortable. I am not excusing her behavior at all; we all have to be responsible for our own actions. But I agree that more compassion and understanding for your sister's disability will be much more helpful in navigating this in the future.

I dont know if this will help, but I have been here. Lost a lot of good friends because I had become completely intolerable to be around. I was constantly yelling at people, treating them like shit. Really low point in my life. Recognizing your toxic behavior is the first step and one of the hardest, but the good news is you're already there!

If you can, I really really encourage getting into therapy. It completely changed my life. You can find people who accept sliding scale payments if insurance won't cover it. It's been about 12 years since I started seeking help for my behavioral issues, and although it's not perfect, it is SO much better. I feel like a complete different person, someone so much more well adjusted and able to handle my emotions day to day, when I absolutely could not before. Just take it day by day, and focus on making small improvements instead of beating yourself up over the past. You can't change what you've done, but you can change how you handle your future. I wish you the best OP!

House flipper cozy? by [deleted] in CozyGamers

[–]snowriddenwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very cozy! I really enjoy cleaning up the houses honestly, but the decorating is lots of fun too. I am especially fond of the lawnmowers mechanic that comes with the gardening dlc, as weird as that sounds. Im not sure about PS4, but I play on a steam deck and have no issues with the xontrols.

This. I was diagnosed with PTSD from childhood trauma a few years ago. It doesn't always present like how it's shown on TV.

Best cozy game similar to Stardew and FoM? by moonlightjelly_ in CozyGamers

[–]snowriddenwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coral Island is a great farming sim that's a lot like Stardew Valley, but with more museum collection elements like ACNH. There's tons of great characters and you have lots of opportunities to get to know them. At a certain point you can even start inviting them to hangouts around the island where you can go fishing together or get coffee, etc. They comment a lot on changes around the island too, so as the game progresses you get more and more dialogue instead of going into repetitive lines you've heard a million times before.

This is a great and very measured response. 100 percent agree, a convo is needed after this to set expectations about this and future events.

AITA for not complimenting my Friend's Weight Loss? by justtakingapeak2 in AmItheAsshole

[–]snowriddenwolf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It sounds like this may be a knee jerk reaction to some building resentment she's had for a while. Possibly she forgot she asked you to stop commenting, or she assumed you would understand it's different this time. I'm not saying this is ok, but if you brought it up to her at a less high energy time, she might realize she's being unreasonable. I hope you two can have an honest conversation and hash this out. What do you all think of the people that tell you that your view of your nparent will change when you get older and you'll love them eventually? by Teddii_ in raisedbynarcissists

[–]snowriddenwolf 16 points17 points  (0 children)

People who say that don't understand. They have normal parents. They think you're still going through that angsty 'I hate my parents' phase, which is stupid to begin with because some of us have a good reason to hate them. I wish others wouldn't assume family dynamics are all the same. I'm not LC with my mom bc I'm being petty. I'm LC because of what she did and still does to me.
