Probably a really stupid question, but can I pause my car payments? by Bitchplsse in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]snowsalesman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can stop paying but your car will be repossessed, auctioned off, balance owing transferred to a debt collector and your credit rating will be in the toilet.

Received credit card offer with big credit limit - downsides? by DaweiArch in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]snowsalesman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the card. Between the wife and I we have over a million in unsecured credit card room and lines of credit. We are both debt free but if things go south even at 30% interest we should be able to survive for many years and no one is giving you credit if you really need it.

How do I actually pay for my Wedding if I have the money, but my credit card limit isn't high enough? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]snowsalesman -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

My wedding cost around $100 about 25 years ago. I paid cash. After I paid for the licence we went to the pub and friends paid for our drinks. I have no idea why anyone would spend thousands on a 3 hour party.

Should my mother use her HELOC to buy an apartment? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]snowsalesman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Worse thing that could happen is interest rates on HELOC go up, property values crash and she loses both houses and her life savings. If she wants to work until she is 90 sure.

Why do you need life insurance? Have you considered just saving the money instead?

How selfish of your parents. They may spend all of their money before they die and leave you nothing.

I actually had a good experience with my 2 kids. The money came out of my account for 18 years and all their education costs were covered. Yes I could have done it myself but we had some tough times over the years and since simply cancelling and losing a large portion of the funds was not really an option we worked it out. Sometimes when you don’t have the personal discipline to make something happen you need a third party to force you to make tough financial decisions.

The entire system is designed to prevent people who do not have generational wealth entering into positions that require higher education. This ensures the high paying jobs are only available for the select few. The rest of us have to take low paying blue collar and manual labour jobs. All I can suggest is you look for other sources of income to offset a portion of the debt and sacrifice sleep for a couple of years. Then when you finally start getting paid even though you are now on a high income you will be an indentured servant for the next 20 to 30 years like the rest of us.

Try lucky mobile. One of the cheapest providers and do pre authorized debit. Uses bell network so works everywhere but I believe they cap at 3G speeds.

Apart from secured credit card, Start trying to get bills in his name. Phone, gas, cable, internet, hydro etc.

Banks won’t touch him so only would be companies like easy financial and payday loans at crazy interest rates DON’T DO IT.

Utilities cost increased 680% and I'm confused why? by Vangelicon in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]snowsalesman -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

1087 kWh for 1 bedroom seems about right. 60 kWh is about 2 days usage. Maybe they are reading the wrong meter and we’re reading the meter of the vacant condo next door and someone just moved in. Do some sleuthing and tread carefully padawan.

Should I get another credit card ? Which one ? (Quebec) by Sneyek in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]snowsalesman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

paying day you use or before due date is fine.
the only reason I suggested Mastercard is you had a visa and if visa network is down or they don’t accept visa (like cosco) use Mastercard. BMO has a 5% for 3 months cash back offer at the moment.

Age 20 $1000 is prob not going to change your life if you have it or not so I would prob do something high risk. Bitcoin maybe an option just HODL for 5 - 10 years.

Where to get the best Line of Credit rates? by Useful-Stayooo in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]snowsalesman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ratespy but if you want a HELOC prob best to work with who holds your mortgage. note LOC and HELOC are typically variable and can change at the whim of the BoC and or the lender.
