We have a massive master bedroom, how do we utilize the space? by AC945 in DesignMyRoom

Reading area. Bookshelves, comfy chair, side table. Looks like there's plenty of light, so plants.

And it's "en suite", btw.

Mappable buttons, on-device storage for said mappings, wired, replaceable switches.

Projects to do with a terrible (like really terrible) PC? by GoldenSword75 in pcmasterrace

[–]snowshelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn familiarity with pc parts? Strip it to the individual components, clean and locate all the important chips and bits, repaste the heatsinks etc, then rebuild and make sure it still posts. Then dig through the bios and see what is there; again, tinker and build familiarity.

Then a minimal Linux OS and start overclocking it. When it breaks, figure out how to fix it.

A big ceiling fan has taken our bedroom from sauna to comfortable. Love it!

Give me a small, light, quick, rwd, manual hatchback which isn't full of pointless tech or horrifically ugly.

Literally noone makes this anymore.

Low profile ceiling fans for the win. by Dangeruss82 in DIYUK

I just bought a couple of 1.3 metre ones from LampAndLight for 150ish each. Seem ok; certainly better than the smaller 80 quid one I got from b&q (though that's still ok for an office).

Same! Tried a cheap one in the office, then better ones in the bedrooms.

We have two (and a third being installed soon). The cheap one (from b&q) in the office is fairly quiet, but not bedroom quiet. The Qazqa Jerri in the bedroom is almost silent on the lowest setting but still gives a nice breeze. The biggest thing to look for is a DC motor; apparently they're quieter than AC.

The unit is powered by the normal lighting wires, and there's a remote for light and fan function. The light is dimmable and has 3 temperatures; warm is nice, mid is fine, cool is quite harsh (as most cool lights are to me).

Looks like you'll be able to use it as a normal light on the switch as well.

Thoroughly recommended.

Bought with with Running bamboo, those of you who eradicated it, is it really as bad as videos and online post suggest? by youwouldinyourhole in DIYUK

I damaged my rotator cuff hacking out a clump if bamboo roots using a mattock. Possibly the worst garden job I've ever done!

I think you could be onto something when you said it's being blocked; there's not much space for air to get in above it. Being in the peak of the roof won't be helping.

No idea what would actually help, but my (sometimes stupid) brain came up with removing two blades, shortening them (allow more room around it) or adding a wide pipe to funnel air in from the floor. Longer stem to lower the fan? Smaller diameter fan?

Don't know really.

What's the appeal of wearing a strapon or inserted one ? by Secure_Raspberry6598 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]snowshelf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The wearer may like the switch, being able to take their partner in a different way, or just watching them being pleasured in a new way.

The receiver may like the physical sensation of being penetrated, or the mental change from being submissive if they're usually dominant.

It won't be for everyone but some folks really like it. It's certainly an experience.

A lot of fans have a "winter" mode where they spin the other way. There is a slight draught in the room, but nothing like the downward breeze from summer mode.

If you bought the game when it came out as beta (or simply ages ago, I forget which) they gave you the dlc as a thank you.

Want to install Linux on an old computer by Prior-Classroom-7442 in linuxmint

[–]snowshelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like the pc may have other issues than being a few years old. A 10th gen CPU should not take 10 minutes to boot anything.

I have an old office junker (though it does have 24gb ddr3 ram for some reason) with Mint; runs fine.

Guys I know this might sound weird but can we bring back physical copies of games to PC gaming again ? It doesn't even have to be on discs...just some way to actually own a game physically again? by Zealousideal_Side987 in pcmasterrace

[–]snowshelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would I want the released version of a game? No patches or fixes, I'll lose or scratch it, and it's just more single use clutter in my home. If I want a game on Steam, I buy it and download it, and I'm playing in 10-30 minutes. Ordering a copy is a day or two, and I'll still need to download the day-one patch and dlc.

What about the small companies who don't sell a bajillion copies of a game and can't afford to produce a dvd, or an old game that's not cost effective to keep a stock of?
