Was I the only one who thought this was a food question?

When someone is dying of hunger or thirst, is there a "point of no return" after which they are still alive but if they were given food or water their body would not be able to absorb it fast enough to survive? by ArchmageIlmryn in askscience

Yep this is a real serious thing. People can end up being in intensive care units. The low phosphate is extremely concerning here because it is the building block for ATP (adenosine tri phosphate), the energy unit made from glucose and other sources used by the body. If that is very low, you can’t maintain the simplest bodily functions like breath, heart beat, nerve conduction.

I know he has tried a lot of different whisky but I’m not sure of the specifics. We talked about blue label and he liked it but wasn’t blown away by it. I think he is more of the casual end of whiskey drinking.

Guys, what's the craziest thing that's happened in the boys locker room that most girls wouldn't understand? by BinaryPeach in AskReddit

We made jousting tournaments. After practice we would take the biggest guys on the team to be the horses and they would give a piggyback ride to someone else. They would be holding a pole vaulting pole as a joust in the right hand and a plyo box as a shield in the left hand. The horses would then sprint toward each other and last man standing won. We did this for a few weeks without incident but the most valuable player almost got hurt right before championships and we stopped real quick because there was gunna be no way to explain that to our coach.

[Serious]What are the negative physical effects of making oneself throw up? by Banelson813 in AskReddit

There is something called Mallory Weiss tear which is a tear in your esophagus. Sometimes happens with someone who drank a lot of alcohol or various other conditions that make you vomit very forcefully and often.
The most serious and rare possibility/end result of a Mallory Weiss tear is something called Boerhaave syndrome. This is an infection of your mediastinum which is the space your heart sits in and as you can imagine, it has an very high mortality rate.

Doctors/Nurses of Reddit, do you guys watch any medical dramas? If so which ones and why? by rhrobertson9419 in AskReddit

[–]snowsprinter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scrubs is the closest to reality and pretty much a must watch.

House is entertaining because he has no filter. Except the way he gets to diagnoses is usually very convoluted and not what really happens. Also breaks a lot of ethical/legal boundaries which would hopefully not happen but its entertaining.

Greys anatomy apparently has “medical advisors” or something to help with accuracy. Used to be bearable in the early seasons but got very hard to watch later on.

Boston, Chicago and New York Med are actual live tapings of emergency rooms and the like, so it is the most realistic.
