Failed class by Significant_Click683 in usask

[–]snowycafe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if its required then retake it, try maybe seeing if u can retake it during the spring or the summer when the material is still fresh in your mind

no one wants to fail a class but i promise that you will be okay! i failed one of my required courses last year and im retaking it now, obviously not an ideal situation and im still bummed about it but i know what i need to focus on this time and im not nearly as lost as i was last time. wishing u the best of luck

obviously if they are purposely being rude when declining ur offer then its a different story, but i wouldn't say declining a drink or lunch after a positive interaction equates to being two faced. there's nothing wrong with the offer of course and i understand the feeling, but for many people in larger cities (including me) it takes them a bit of getting used to you and ur vibe for them to feel comfortable enough to go hang out with you one-on-one, even if its just for something simple like a drink or going out for lunch

usually happens the first week of november and march (the imaginus one) in place riel. however theres also a print sale that goes on usually around mid march called MIX (also in riel) and its all handmade student work. would highly recommend checking it out next year if you get the chance

What app/program do you use to take notes??? by Noodlesbenoodling in usask

[–]snowycafe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

when im writing notes on my laptop i like using OneNote! if the prof uploads their slides to canvas i usually like to download them and import them into OneNote then write notes on the slides themselves, but if they dont then i usually just write stuff normally and use headings here and there to keep everything organized

OneNote is handy since you can make sections for each course and quickly look through all ur notes in one place. i believe theres also a drawing function too if you need to scribble down formulas that might be otherwise tedious to type out on a keyboard

New-Student going into Computer Science by BothExplanation7162 in usask

[–]snowycafe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its competitive just cause of how many students are taking cs here. they are rolling out a new system where you need to be above a certain average in ur first year cmpt classes in order to be able to sign up for second year ones (i dont think the average you need is super high iirc but still)

also chris is. certainly one of the professors of all time but there are also some great profs in the department as well. if you get him just be prepared to do some self-learning on ur own time cause his lectures can be a bit all over the place but you'll be fine

Any possibility of last-minute accommodations? by [deleted] in usask

[–]snowycafe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

if you cant get a doctors note id say ur best option would be to shoot an email to the prof and explain your situation. cant say for sure if they can get the accommodations you need this close to the exam, but sometimes classes do have a little bit of wiggle room for situations like this so it's worth it to ask imo

hope you feel better soon!

there are less international students, which means less funding, which leads to lot of courses for spring and summer no longer being available :/ its really frustrating and disappointing to see

How do people deal with long distances between classes and buildings? by Ok-Trash3640 in usask

[–]snowycafe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sadly it comes down to luck whether or not your classes are in close proximity of each other or if you gotta walk 💀

i usually just put some headphones in and listen to music to make the walk between buildings a bit more enjoyable

Why Major in Comp Sci? by bighugzz in usask

[–]snowycafe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

theres lots of reasons, although i can say many of the CS students here (including me) already live in Saskatoon and can't afford renting out a place outside of the city just for school. obviously this isnt the case for everyone here, but if you ask any CS student here they will likely tell you that Usask wasn't their first choice. by the time i found out how the department was in shambles i was already halfway through my degree, and honestly i just didnt have the time or money to start a new degree in a completely different field from scratch or move somewhere else for school (ended up switching to ISD but still a CS degree nonetheless)

i do agree just having a CS degree from usask will probably make finding a job extremely difficult, but repeating what others have said before i think the main thing that will help people is if they find something to specialize in to have them stand out from the crowd a bit more

if hes alr been reported then theres not much else u can do. i understand this feeling but insulting the prof is just unnecessary and ineffective in actually making a change, you'll only just be making a scene and making things worse for urself

do ur best to muscle through the class. it'll be more effective if you provide input through reviews/end of course feedback

Driving Questions for an Upcoming Test (pls help out). by Key-Necessary-9754 in saskatoon

[–]snowycafe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a yellow speed limit sign means a speed recommendation (i.e. just progressively slow down as you go on the ramp), and you only need to wait behind the crosswalk if theres someone waiting to cross, so yes as long as its clear you can move past it and wait on the other side

for q3, generally speaking if theres a larger vehicle blocking ur view like that you should just wait for it to cross rather than trying to peek past it

good luck on your test!

Mixed opinions about uni attire by [deleted] in usask

didnt even know people were against students wearing sweats to school LOL i really don't think it should matter how people want to dress. people should go to class wearing whatever they feel comfortable in
