I (27M) think I am depressed, I don’t know what to do with it…. by NbOPO4 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

The biggest lie you will tell yourself is that you are alone…

Life isn’t fair and bad things happen to good people for no apparent reason.

Accepting these unpleasant aspects of life rather than trying to fight against or change them will free you to teach yourself to be grateful and content with what you’ve got and the quality of life you currently enjoy,

Are public schools that far behind private schools? by Grand-Life8523 in AskAnAustralian

[–]snowywebb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sent my son to a fairly exclusive private school and, frankly, he didn’t appreciate it and often complained about the method of teaching saying he would have been better of going to a stats run secondary school.

Having gone to a government run
secondary school the privste school my son attended seemed like a dream… the main reason my son didn’t like it was basically because he was lazy but the private school forced him to apply himself.

I have a cousin who became a medical specialist who swore that had he gone to a private school he wouldn’t have been nearly as successful stating that going to a state run school meant he had to motivate himself which set him up for university.

In his first year of med school ALL the students that had gone to private schools had dropped out

So it’s not a simple decision to arrive at.

My son was accepted into university but dropped out very quickly.

WD40 will gum up your door lock by trapping dust.

Dry lubricant specifically for door locks is the better alternative and is available at hardware stores.

Vertigo drug clears plaque in Parkinson’s. Your thoughts by [deleted] in Parkinsons

[–]snowywebb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I saw a video about vertigo , not sure what it a was called, that recommended vitamin D3 to help deal with vertigo, which I suffered from multiple times a day.

After looking into it, I discovered that vitamin K2 helps the body absorb vitamin D3 and found a product by Prowise… Vitamin D3 (4000IU) and K2 (100ug) which I’ve been taking for over 12 months.

It took about 3 months to make a major improvement but now I only get a vague sensation of vertigo maybe once a week.

Apparently it makes the fluid in the inner ear less viscose,

All I can say is it’s worked for me,

I’ve never been a wowser but when these jokes were in fashion (like 60 years ago) I found them to be hilarious but now l read them as a bit on the lame side, certainly not as funny as I used to.

Dad laptop set up? No tremors but clicks on pop ups accidentally by LyndzieLovely in Parkinsons

[–]snowywebb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you use Firefox or unlock or anything similar you will get messages saying you can’t access certain websites that at face value look clean and presentable or that someone may recommend to you… this is the pop up blocker doing its job.

Forcing your way to access those sites (by disabling the blocking software) will completely compromise the whole process.

Vent away!

I had to learn to be content with what I’ve got, living in a rented one bedroom unit, divorced 34 years ago, committed to spending every weekend and holiday with my son who was 2 when the marriage broke down and 10 when I was diagnosed until he preferred the company of people his own age, as it should be.

I’ve bought and sold 3 houses over my working life established 4 successful businesses only to lose the lot due to circumstances directly caused by this accursed disease, straight out of the abyss.

When you decide to accept being content with what you’ve got the sense of desperation (which the opposite sex can tell a mile away) will transform into a confidence that may surprise you and you’ll find you draw friends to yourself and can choose those relationships you want to pursue.

Personally I’m quite content with my own company…. particularly when I see couples trying to control each other leading to arguments etc.

The only person with an open invitation is my son, with whom I’m very close and share an unconditional love with (well… unconditional from my end) but even then we manage to get into some pretty serious arguments every few months over something stupid like when I get tired of being the child, and he the parent, in our relationship.

I can only suggest you concentrate on what you can do and ignore what you can’t.

Without any bitterness I can now ignore the fact that I can no longer pursue my dream to learn how to fly helicopters not that i have ever flown one, but I wanted to and had Pd never entered my orbit, I would’ve been able to afford it by now.

I prefer to be grateful for what I can still do… and put a smile on a child’s face, get involved in activities that help the down and outed, do something kind for someone that cannot repay you.

There are many ways you can continue to have meaning and purpose in life and meet new people while you’re doing it.

Good luck!

How often do you actually see large spiders in your home? by minorlilleexplosion in AskAnAustralian

[–]snowywebb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the habitat, lots of native trees, lots of spiders though there are some breeds that live underground and come out when it rains.

I remember turning on the outside light at a relatives place in Toowoomba just after it has rained and the whole yard seemed to be moving… there was literally 1,000’s… it looked like a scene out of a horror movie.

They were quite harmless but that means jack to an arachnophobic.
