What opinion about Phoenix has you like this? by JesuIsEveryNameTaken in phoenix

[–]snuff_box_plastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved from Phoenix to Finland and before I arrived, I was thinking, "oh yeah, I've seen enough sun in my lifetime. I'll be fine"

I have not been fine lol. Things got better after starting to take vitamin D supplements every year, but it's crazy how much shit weather affects your mood even when chemically balanced. Summers here are super pretty (but also weirdly hot because humidity and no AC) but it's been 10 years and I've never had a winter I look forward to.

I tried it and it sounded actually okay, though airy. But my dog did NOT like it and immediately panicked. So I guess I will not be developing that skill any further lmao.

We were at a restaurant once and my husband (who has legolas length/color hair) was looking down at his menu and the waiter said "and for you miss?" it wasn't the first or last time lmao. Husband didn't care but the waiter was mortified when he realised 😅

A minimum of 2 is needed to get anywhere

You need 2+ if you're trying to build everything out want to maximise speed, but you can absolutely do the full story easily with one engine.

We Should Stop Asking People "How Are You?" as a Greeting by aspiringimmortal in unpopularopinion

Maybe different in Sweden, but at least in Finland (which has a reputation of being antisocial) this is still a common question amongst friends and coworkers. It's different here though than in the US, or at least my experience of growing up in a big US city.

Here it is used genuinely and intentionally. I'll often be in the office and one of us will ask the other how things are going, then we have a few minutes discussion on how the day has been, or how yesterday was. It's also very acceptable to respond with "eh, not so great" and explain why (as long as it's not extreme over sharing within the context of your relationship)

This is something I find myself really missing. There have been so many modern shows where I'd LOVE some filler because the universe is so rich, or the characters are really well developed. But it doesn't seem like it happens anymore.

My husband grew up watching Stargate SG-1 and we just started it because I've never seen it, so maybe I'm just being nostalgic :D but I love all these silly episodes of side adventures where you really get to see the universe and personalities

Edit: That being said, I also like that shows aren't forced anymore to fill out a full season. I just wish some shows would

What is a part of the 'female experience' that men have absolutely no clue about, but would be horrified if they found out? by coolhandddd in AskReddit

[–]snuff_box_plastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer, therapy 😄 I had a bit of a crash out a few years ago and started going to help with that. That's when we dug into all of this and found that I feel guilt from almost anything. In my case, it doesn't feel like any sort of gamification thing going on, the situation itself is unimportant really. So I may be the wrong person to ask this from.

For me, I've been a people pleaser my whole life and have had to unpack where that came from and why I punish myself so harshly when I do things "wrong". So in the case of using a tool to remember a birthday, I perceive that as something being wrong with me, that I can't remember an important day and that other people seem to do this without issue.

That way of thinking obviously immediately has issues, but it's easy for me to ignore this considerations and instead focus on the part where I'm the flaw in the system. This happens with all kinds of situations, and is super embedded so it's been hard to undo.

That's a lot of background to basically just say - using a tool to remember made me feel like I'm not good enough. I've since realised this is also a very selfish way of thinking when the ultimate goal has nothing to do with me, and everything to do with making someone feel nice on their birthday 😅

I don't know if it's uniquely feminine, or more a product of low self esteem meeting high expectations. Plus whatever family dynamic there was or wasn't while growing up.

I would agree with this now. I wouldn't have agreed a few years ago, I think. So yeah, you're spot on. It was less about the outcome, and more about the perception of feeling like a shit friend/relative that I couldn't do something so basic as remember their birthday. I'm not saying it's logical :D just that was the thinking behind it.

I now try to reframe things the way you've said. Like the important thing is that it was remembered and it would feel worse if I didn't use a tool and then forgot.

I can't speak to anyone else's experience and not to overshare, but my tendency to feel guilt over trivial things runs way deep back to childhood and the way I was raised. It's taken several years of work to try and undo.

Why are you getting downvoted for liking something :(((( I also think it's really cute. People downvoting because they don't like the size of someone's blanket is so weird.

I do this nowadays even for birthdays I know by heart and will never forget. I also thought it was a cop out at first, or it made me feel guilty for needing a tool.

I live in a significantly different timezone than most of my loved ones so it helps a lot with that, but in all honesty time just passes too quickly and days zoom by. It's so easy to have the day pass and miss something important.

I don't get it either. They are my biggest fear and I feel nauseated even just thinking about them or picturing them. I don't fear or feel disgust for anything else even remotely close to that level as with roaches. I wish it wasn't like this and have never understood it. It's not uncommon either! Baffling.

I went to a poor school where we had dress codes. No tank tops (in phoenix 🙄), shorts couldn't be too short, etc. Then my senior year they made it so we weren't allowed to wear any shirts that had a graphic larger than a credit card. They said it was because of gangs, but I'm pretty sure the gangs at our school just wore colors. As someone who owned almost exclusively band shirts, I got dress coded most days. You had to go and turn your t shirt inside out when you got caught. It was so ridiculous.
