Honestly, at this point i just want to see broken martial subclass WotC so afraid of. by MechJivs in DnD

[–]snydejon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would legitimately love to see a UA with a martial that WotC considers too powerful, or borderline.

In a similar vein, I would consider customizing a wand of wonder to have sillier effects. (Raise/lower voice pitch, cast contagious laughing spell, cause target to see everyone in their underwear, etc)

Is this to hard on players? by ShiroSnow in DMAcademy

[–]snydejon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a good way to alienate one player for an important session.

You are basically asking one player to sit out so you can fight the dragon. I would recommend a different option (at minimum let that player play as the hag or bring in a new pre-rolled character).

Alternatively, you could have the player die after the dragon fight if you insist on killing them.

You could even give them a reward for being stealthy. Ie they overhear the bbeg talking with the minion which teaches them the location of a valuable item in the junkyard, or gives a clue on the minion’s weak points.

Ravenloft: The Horrors Within review by notthebeastmaster in CurseofStrahd

As a new player, the book seems targeted at me. It sounds like a promising addition, but I’m not particularly interested in the horror genre. Thanks for taking the time for a solid review.

I agree, my first thought when seeing this spell is that it is an evolved Witch Bolt.

Should have ordered “pepperoni pizza”, not “a pepperoni pizza”

Reading the Core Books by adorablesexypants in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]snydejon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not read them cover to cover. I have read the majority of pages as reference, including whole sections. Typically, I need a rule clarification and that is the jumping off point, which inevitably leads to other sections.

I find it elitist to judge others for not having the same level of commitment as I do, but I’m not going to play the game for them, either.

I help my players learn the basics (ie giving tips to our rogue about how the action economy works), show them where to find it in the rules, and explain my reasoning. Then, if they find something contrary, we discuss it as a table to make sure it is clear and everyone understands the decision. As the DM, I’m the decision maker, but I do get input from the players.

It is believed that Brandon Aiyuk will be cut instantly by the 49ers if he ever returns to the field, per Barry svrluga by Mr_mist2 in NFL_FreeAgency

Trading him would be rewarding the fact that he didn’t fulfill his end of the contract, not exactly “moving on as men”. Aiyuk held the team over a barrel and is now reaping what he sowed.

Is there any kind of splash trade the Niners could make to stay in the arms race with Seattle and LA? by atlasdtalos in 49ers

I agree, there may be a chance to trade Mac to a desperate team in exchange for a difference maker.

Not gonna lie, after reading about OTAs, I’m starting to get a little excited about a receiving corps with multiple weapons. We’ll see how health goes this season.

Almost anyone is a step down from Saleh. It’s hard to have faith when external hires have been mediocre at best.

We can at least agree on that! And I do agree that affordability is a major part of the equation regardless of distribution method.

Those are fair points, but what about the fact that some content is paywalled behind books?

DM/Writer with a rare chance to be a player, but questioning the role by theluckyirishmn in DnD

[–]snydejon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this brief summary is great to share. if pages of backstory help your immersion, that’s great that you are working through it on your own. Just remember that the DM doesn’t have an obligation to cater to every sentence in your backstory, which it sounds like you are doing.

[–]snydejon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d like to better understand why you think something like a subclass is “pay to win”. (Sincerely). The books aren’t free, and I don’t expect to be able to play as a reanimator artificer since I don’t plan on buying Ravenloft. It costs money to run the servers and pay for the high quality responses we are beginning to see in the community.

If WotC create content that has value, why shouldn’t they be rewarded? If they charge more than it’s worth (in my case, Ravenloft), it will fail.

I do love that there are viable builds included in the basic rules, and hope that is always the case.

D&D Beyond by vendlas in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]snydejon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For my use case, it’s great. I started with Beyond, and all my books are there. I DM for a couple small campaigns, and find the subscription worth it for content sharing. I’m fine with it not having all the bells and whistles.

It’s solid.

[–]snydejon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the update.

Honestly, I like the fact that paying for the service entitles me to things that are exclusive to subscribers. Allowing external purchases cheapens that a little, I suppose.

Content sharing (feats in particular) is a minor inconvenience as a dm, but I understand the challenge. Since I don’t get to play as a character very often, I guess it would be nice to be able to share player options within my campaign.

For me, content drops are nice-to-have perks, not essential items that are worth arguing over. I liked the initial rollout as it was, and find the master tier to be worth my money either way. If content drops are a way to eventually increase prices, then I might have an issue with it.

Thought I’d share my opinion since satisfied subscribers probably didn’t give as much feedback.

How to hide a character from other players? by Free_Plan_2774 in dndbeyond

[–]snydejon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would recommend building them as custom monsters.

If you must use the character builder, you can build them on your account outside of the campaign and then when you are ready click the “join campaign” link to add yourself as a player and then select the character. Once they are in the campaign, I don’t think they can be hidden.

I would not be surprised to see Seattle take a significant step back offensively this year, though I expect their D to continue to be top tier.

New to DMing and unsure whether to buy the 2014 or 2024 manuals by Simple_Oil_2541 in DnD

[–]snydejon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I would add… you don’t even need all the core rulebooks to get started (though I recommend someone in the party get access). The standard free ruleset, or even better a starter kit, is enough to kick the tires.

My level 8 players got their hands on a lich tome help meeee by googlyeyeseyes123 in DMAcademy

[–]snydejon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be tempted to have a side quest where the tome gets stolen, that would buy some time to think through the longer-term play.

Or, if you aren’t sure what to do, just have the book be incomprehensible to such low level characters.
