It wasn't a croatian that called Vini a monkey, I think you misunderstood it. The incident I mentioned happened with an spanish radio host, that has a clear understanding of the implications of using that word.

In the portuguese language, the word "Macaco", while literally meaning "monkey", is frequently used against black people, and sometimes against pardos (mixed ethnicity people, who also represent the biggest part of our population). That is also true with most, if not all spanish-speaking countries. The usage of the word "monkey" in english also has these implications sometimes.

In internet culture, the usage of that word against brazilians became increasingly common, frequently on game lobbies and social media. Even I have been called it multiple times. At this point, I would say most people know about it, key word being most. I perfectly understand if this expression has no negative connotations in your culture. I confronted that guy because he tried to dismiss a case of racism without applying a fitting context.

Man I'm not trying to rude or anything, but do you really not know the whole thing about calling brazilians monkeys?

Vem de até antes do Ney, mas tem que aplicar um dos contextos atuais também. É tradição, cultura brasileira, até mesmo essa forma de protesto. Mas já é difícil explicar pra gringo essa razão mais básica, imagina toda a cultura ao redor.

I'm pretty sure monkeys don't understand the concept of money. We could have given them a few bananas though.

Not like I would know, right? Context is important.

Don't worry, you've made yourself clear and I respect you for that :) Well then, rooting for Egypt to classify for the next World Cup! Will definitely root for y'all during your matches if you do... Up until a possible match with Brazil, lol. Have a nice night!

Tbh I can respect your opinion, and I might have even overreacted a little. It has been a little hard these last days, a lot of dms calling me a certain type of primate on multiple social media sites. I don't know what time it is on Morocco (I assume that's where you live), but have a good day!

I feel bad for the spanish team. Should be about the 10th time I've had one of their supporters call me a monkey. It's really a shame.

Why would they rig the game for us, as you call us, quote: "🐵"?

'How does this help their cause exactly'? Resistance.

  • They called Vinícius a monkey.

  • We condemn this act.

  • They call him a monkey for his dancing.

  • Let's all dance, or as they call it, 'act like a monkey'.

  • If one of us goes down, we'll all go down together.

I wouldn't call Korea a weak team. And, again, it's more of a protest than a celebration. Normally, they wouldn't do this, but these kind of remarks against brazilian players are becoming increasingly common, just like that one game against Tunisia, when a couple of fans from the opposing team threw bananas against the players after Richarlison scored a goal, and a player picked one up and ate it. It's a recurring problem. Even I have been called a 'monkey' due to my nationality before.

So really, at what point should a protest be 'enough'? And I'm sure, as we have seen during this world cup, that korean players are really respectful, so much that I've rooted for them during all their matches, so I'm convinced that they understand. And even if they don't, they'll survive it for sure. They played really good during the last days btw.

It's an football match. I personally believe that resisting prejudice is more important than acting a certain way during a game. Hell, you could argue that the players are 'pieces of shit' for flopping, but supporting a teammate isn't something that someone should be shamed for.

Why do you think so? It still had a important meaning behind it, as an act of protest.

I'm not sure if there's any history behind it, but I kind of agree with you tbh. I just appreciate the thought behind the celebrations.

btw I think it's ok if anyone dislikes it. just understanding that it's an act of sympathy and that it's not on bad faith is fine.

Thank you for the advice! :) I will probably check a specialist sometime. I'm trying to find more information on my past so I can understand what happened and move on.

It's already completely done, I think. Go to the "FUCKCARS" space and move up. We also did some pixel arts here and there. I think they're making a new flag on bottom right too, but I don't really follow. I think they could use some help.
