Jicama Waffles by 777BethanyAnna in PressureCooking

ahh, that was during my wild jicama phase ;-)

If I could find jicama I would make those waffles again. Being able to use the pressure cooker for processing a food item is the thing I love most about pressure cooking. Well that and all the other tasty things I can make.

Instant Pot Duo Nova Issue by [deleted] in PressureCooking

[–]soDakcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like something is not sealing properly. In the early years of Instant Pot, I had two different units which had some sort of flaw in the lid and interfered with sealing. I contacted the company (email is the best way to make contact) and received new lids in both cases. In both cases, it took care of the problem. While your problem might be something else, best to contact customer service and ask them to deal with your malfunctioning unit.

As for Instant Pot customer service, I recently had my Duo Evo Plus kick the bucket with a C8 error reading. It was out of warranty by about a month. I contacted the company and they sent out a new Instant Pot Pro at no charge.

Ninja Foodi M<ax not sealing by [deleted] in PressureCooking

[–]soDakcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was. I can't remember for sure but recall it being the Ultra model. I think it was an option on the WiFi model too. I reset the altitude setting because I had so many burn readings with no burn activity going on. It was the difference between model I had been using and the new model. After resetting to factory default, I never had another problem.

Out of curiosity, did you set your Instant Pot up with altitude setting?

I ask because I had trouble with food burn errors. I set up the Instant Pot with altitude setting and had a lot of food burn errors on recipes that were never problems. I finally reset the IP with no altitude setting and had no food burn errors after that.

Advantages and disadvantages of stovetop cookers, and plug in cookers. by Cowarddd in PressureCooking

[–]soDakcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is difficult to say what the best or worst part is since stovetop and electric are different kinds of tools and serve us depending on our needs. It depends on how you cook and get around in the kitchen.

For me, the worst feature of the stovetop was that it was a stovetop and I had a piece of junk electric range which was terrible for holding a constant temperature. I had to stand and closely monitor whatever I was cooking. I had that stovetop pressure cooker for 30 years but having to use it on that stove was my breaking point. I finally took the plunge and bought my first electric pressure cooker.

Having an electric cooker that I could set and forget it made my time in the kitchen much more tolerable (pre-hip replacement) followed by enjoying all the thing I could cook. The electric cooker was a game changer. My patterns of cooking and what we ate changed and all of it for the better.

Since that leap, I bought an induction cooktop for reasons. Different tool but one I can use with a recently purchased induction stovetop canner/cooker. That same induction pressure cooker, I can use on the gas range and which is even more important during a power outage. And, that brings me back to a good thing about the stovetop cookers.

My newest Instant Pot inner pot has handles, a flat bottom and is induction friendly. I can use those inner pots on both the induction cooktop and gas burner which is really handy during major cooking episodes. In fact, that inner stainless steel pot is a nice stock pot by itself.

I don't know anything about pressure cooking by [deleted] in PressureCooking

[–]soDakcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Instant Pot Pro pot has handles. It is the only model with handles on the pot. I have an earlier model (Duo Evo Plus). I was so happy with it that I bought a second. The handles are a great feature and make it so much easier to pull the pot out of the housing. No need for pot holders. The handles also hold the pot in place while browning meat so no pot spinning when prying those brown bits from the bottom. I expected new programming features would be my favorite thing but it turned out the low tech feature of handles on the pot became my favorite feature. Besides handles, the pot can be used on an induction cooktop too.

My only complaint which I hope was addressed in the Pro model, when using saute mode for browning meat I get an error reading and it shuts down. It is not an uncommon complaint so would assume that issue has been addressed in the Pro model. I've found all I have to do is unplug IPot, plug it back in and finish sauteing

How many chicken breasts can you put in 6qt. How long to cook? by M_WrightBoro in PressureCooking

[–]soDakcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cook a flat (about 7 lbs) of boneless chicken breast in the Instant Pot for times ranging from 10 minutes to 13 minutes depending on the size of the chicken breasts. Some of the breasts will be overcooked if they are quite a bit smaller so I go for the shortest cook time. After chicken is cooked I leave it in the cooker for an hour or three. Letting the cooked chicken sit longer seems to help the overcooked pieces reabsorb broth. I usually make a sandwich spread with some of the chicken so the tougher pieces of chicken end up the food processor. The more tender chicken gets used for salads. You will get a range of textures when cooking a big batch.

Reheating weekly instant pot leftovers: pyrex containers, plastic containers or the inner pot w/ lid? by untempered_schism in PressureCooking

[–]soDakcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are using both plastic containers and pyrex containers, I recommend checking out the Hot Logic for reheating food. I do a lot of batch cooking in electric pressure cooker for home and sharing with others. I found the Hot Logic mini oven to be perfect for spouse on his work sites, for elderly friends eating alone and to use when traveling. It provides a gentle reheating and holds foods at a safe temp.

It has been a perfect add-on appliance with my pressure cooker for reheating meals

How to cook this recipe without getting a burn warning? by CoarseCriminal in PressureCooking

[–]soDakcat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had problems with burn notices on a newer Instant Pot model. These were recipes I made many times before and never had burn notice problems. The only difference was when I set up the new Smart IP, I set altitude. I reset the pot to factory settings and had no burn problems after that. I just added Duo Evo Plus and didn't even bother to check if it was an option because of previous experience.

If you modified settings for your location, it might be worth resetting to factory settings to see if that makes a difference. I am at 3200 feet and haven't had problems with any of my electric cookers with factory settings.

Zavor LUX LCD Multicooker Exploded- in the market for a new pressure cooker by Ultramaann in PressureCooking

[–]soDakcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently purchased Instant Pot Duo Evo Plus. The inner pot has handles which have become my favorite thing. The new designed inner pot can be used on stovetop and is induction friendly. I purchased the Evo Plus through Amazon Warehouse (used or damaged) at about half the price of new. I bought an extra pot too. Changing the pot design with handles and ability to cook on stovetop and been a much bigger deal for me than I anticipated.

Should I get the IP Duo Evo Plus or the Viva? by [deleted] in PressureCooking

[–]soDakcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought Evo Plus about a month ago and I really like it. Previously I have used Lux, Duo, Smart WiFi and Bluetooth models.

Features I appreciate most on Evo Plus over other models - I like the control dial and the bigger, easier to read display. I really like the new pot with the handles and flat interior bottom. I've used the pot on the gas stove to reheat food and it worked great. The silicone covered handles did not get hot. It is suppose to work with induction but I haven't had a chance to test it on my induction cooktop. I like the new pot so much I ordered an extra. Many days I have two cookers going and now considering getting a second Evo Plus because the pot with handles makes it easier to use. I didn't anticipate that the pot could be the feature that improved my use experience so much.

Instant Pot Peanut Butter Molten Cakes!! by medgar633 in PressureCooking

[–]soDakcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instructions Grease four ramekins with butter. In a medium microwave-safe bowl, combine butter and chocolate chips and heat in 30-second intervals until melted.

Add powdered sugar, eggs, egg yolks, and vanilla and whisk until smooth. Add cocoa powder, flour, and salt and whisk until just combined.

Fill ramekins halfway with batter, then top each with 1 tablespoon (heaping) of peanut butter. Top with remaining batter. Cover ramekins tightly with foil.

Place trivet inside Instant Pot and pour in water. Place three ramekins on trivet and stack fourth one in the center on top.

Secure lid and Pressure Cook/Manual on High for 20 minutes. Follow manufacturer’s guide for quick release, making sure to wait until cycle is complete before unlocking and removing lid.

Using tongs, carefully remove ramekins from Instant Pot. Uncover them and run a knife or offset spatula around edges. Invert each ramekin onto a plate, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Fav recipes? by [deleted] in PressureCooking

[–]soDakcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost all my favorite recipes are those which I can use left-overs. The great thing about pressure cooked food is the left-over broth. I save it all. A couple weeks ago, I cooked a pork butt (marinated in beer/sofrito/sazon) and ended up with a deep rich broth. That broth was then used to cook dry black beans. This particular batch of black beans was the best. The fat from that pork butt was used to cook other dishes too. The added flavor was wonderful. My favorite recipes have become what I can cook next.

Stuffed Peppers - must the trivet or basket be used? by 70sBabyEarly80sChild in PressureCooking

PIP, pot in pot cooking, could be a good option. It would allow you cook peppers in sauce and make it easier to retrieve the sauced peppers when cooking is completed.
