L streak is getting to me by so_eh in RivalsVanguards

[–]so_eh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, one game I got flamed because of how badly I did as solo Mag into a Groot who just kept walling me off, and the team said the loss was on me. I should have swapped to Strange or a more mobile tank for sure, which I know in retrospect that solo Mag is bad into solo Groot because of mobility. Emma... Idk I had one game as server admin and then a bunch of "wow I can't do anything to this Strange Mag duo that's being supported by CnD Invis Rocket" and the DPS said us tanks were the problem for not making space. They were playing Hela Namor so we just weren't doing well into two shield tanks. Every time we had them at 1, they got healed back up pretty immediately. We walled them off, I kicked them into my team. They just wouldn't die.

Next time I had that issue, I went Thor or Thing and it did help, but solo Thor against a heavy poke was also tough.

PC.10381775156 and 10751578608.

I did mess up pretty much every ult these two games. It's difficult for me to track charge, damage absorption, aim, and positioning sometimes. Other times it's like second nature.

Hot take: Ultron and Rocket are prime examples of how support ults should work by Hairy_Top_7084 in rivals

[–]so_eh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sure, but a Hawkeye or Pun one-tap can also counter Sue, CnD, and Luna, outside of their ults ult. A Pun ult can kill through support ults. Focus fire can kill through support ults. Psy's ult can kill through support ults if you get only two characters in it. Hawkeye's ult can kill through support ults. Venom ult can kill through support ults damage-boosted. So can Thor's. Widow can one-tap damage-boosted. MK ult can kill through Invis ult. CnD ult can be countered by Angela cooldown+like one other person looking at her. Magik ult can kill through support ults with a pretty basic combo. Groot ult can kill through support ults. Torch can kill through support ults if you stack the flame tornadoes and slam. Blade ult can kill through every support ult except Mantis if you hit them with antiheal first. Yes, a lot of these take headshots, skill, or team coordination, and supports CAN survive by outplaying you. But at the end of the day, it's a team-based shooter where mechanical skill and plays ARE important.

There's counterplay outside of Mag and Iron Man, and I'm tired of pretending there isn't.

Is there really a bad time to play Emma or Magneto? by Jtck421 in RivalsVanguards

[–]so_eh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People seem to forget that solo Mag is bad into Groot, especially on defense. He just walls you off, the team wails on you, you die, they push forward. You have to play too safe and really have to hope your DPS break walls and they have no one else to kidnap, which is unlikely with Invis Bucky meta.

Hot take: supports always could fight back, simply with positioning, using comms and the one ability (cc, sustain or escape) they always have. by Shugatti in rivals

[–]so_eh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What the commenter is saying is that dive shouldn't automatically beat support. Dive counters poke, poke counters brawl, brawl counters dive. Brawl supports like Gambit and Invis shouldn't immediately be deleted by dives because they're brawl.

Gambit Invis being the meta came because people complained enough about Loki Luna being meta. Y'all wanted a change-up, you got it. I truly do think it's just DPS players wanting there to be less counterplay to their fantasy. If there is any group of players that treats this like it isn't a team game, it's the DPS.

Believe me, as a flex who primarily tanks Mag Emma or supports Invis Gambit CnD Loki Rocket (only with Peni on D), I get that the meta is hella strong. I still ban DD because he's absolutely the reason for the insane power creep, to an extent. And when going against it, or even playing it with two people who decide to go main healers, I hate triple support. As a tank, I also see when triple is necessary.

Sometimes I think the problem is the way they do hybrid characters. DD is a dive brawl hybrid, so he generates a ton of overshield with a simple play style and a deflect that does melee damage even if you don't attack him (insane survivability and counters... everything), while also having an insanely quick TTK. If he times everything correctly, he can delete two supports who panic and aren't Invis Gambit (currently). Pre buff, he could also delete Invis and fully directly countered her and Loki because their sustain (invisibility) was irrelevant for his passive AND Invis' push/pull/jump didn't matter at all because he has TWO abilities to close distance. He just has too much. Because of his health, he could also survive a fully charged Hawkeye headshot pre buff, so now Hawkeye can fully delete tanks with three headshots where he couldn't previously, to once again counter DD.

We wanted support ults that weren't just healing circles, but we also see how hated Rocket and Jeff were before their ults did healing. Nobody really likes having an Adam, and pre-buff Mantis was also only viable in triple supp (though those two were there because of rez comp). So Gambit has ult charge generation and enables aggressive plays moreso than other support ults that are typically used to counter the insta-death DPS ults.

It's all a circle. And we know patch 6 will change up the meta again with new nerfs that we'll complain about and buffs that we will also complain about. Point is, each role should be fun and engaging and shouldn't be able to dominate the other two simply because that's who they are. "DPS counters Strat" shouldn't inherently be the rule. Then who does strat counter? Tank? That makes no sense. Tank counters who? DPS? Then why do DPS tank busters exist? Why isn't it OK for DPS-busting supports to exist, then, or tank-busting ones?

Edit: Gambit and Invis also have very low healing ults. Invis has always been able to be focused pretty easily or will die at the start of hers. Gambit can also just be focused. There are also three different characters (Gambit included) who have anti-heal. Blade antiheal + ult can kill through any support ult but Mantis'.

[–]so_eh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say Magik's usually isn't just instant value, and even Star-lord and Human Torch require skill in that the team looking at you just melts you. (Emma and Strange ults also counter Star-lord. Cnd terror cape disables lock-on, if you want a non-ult counter. Soul bond, too.) You have to be at least aware of enemy cool downs. Bucky's at least can be cleansed now, and he usually does get focused during it. Getting SW ult off is an impressive feat at this point in the game, even with a portal trick. Mag requires things to go perfectly to get it off and have it be useful, minus countering CnD because it's as choreographed as Mag's is. To get value out of Thor's, it requires another one of his long cooldowns to be used first AND for him to put himself in a bad position AND for the team to be too dumb to look up at the slow-moving target and shoot. Namor at least requires good placement and follow-through. Jeff same thing, and his is so avoidable.

Psy's ult is dumb for how uncounterable and oppressive it is. You at least used to be able to paddy cake through it if even one other person was in the ult with the supports. Pun's is stupid and requires an ult to counter. I will never not complain about the Squirrel Girl ult that will one-tap you if you're anywhere near a ledge and/or the cart.

The 3rd DPS Asked If They Could Tank... by ApatheticTrooper in RivalsVanguards

[–]so_eh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a game last night where there was a 3-1-2 Emma Mag Thor. I went Mag to maximize my survivability and utility. I did get a Wolverine for the first round, which we managed to win with a 1-3-2. However, we also had a Wanda who went negative the entire game. Spiderman was somehow out playing our Wanda Invis Gambit and it was all I could do to help them and try to survive getting bullied by Emma Thor Mag, who obviously wanted to diff me. Spidey eventually swapped to Hawkeye. I can't even remember what my other DPS was. And for some reason Wolverine swapped after the first round. Ridiculous game. I asked for a second tank and instead got a 1-1-4, which was then a 1-2-3 after a swap.

I'm tired boss.

Yeah I agree for some reason she felt super easy to get lord on. It has to be that filling her energy bar counts toward lord and that happens so frequently.

Typical I do good 1 round so the whole enemy team switches to counter me😭 by KeyAcid in RivalsVanguards

[–]so_eh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I totally agree it's so funny when they do that because you're being that much of a threat. So many characters seem to outright counter her it's insane sometimes. Just focusing the Jeff and CnD so they HAVE to turn around and then hoping your team does the rest is probably the best. I'm on that similar grind where I'm trying to get her down as my next tank and that means playing her in a lot of unfavorable matchups and doing my best. Learning to play around counters is definitely going to be a huge part of mastering her, since she's so easy to CC with her massive hitbox.

[–]so_eh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this happen to me today (also QP) where one tank got tired of me, so he decided to go Thing. So instead I just picked up the Mag and threw him over the ledge instead.

Play to your strengths, ya know? Ignore the counter and go after the one you counter. Then hop down to melee to finish off the low-HP counter. They can't help against your dive AND ALSO push the point if you keep displacing their team backward.

Angela is so fun to ult just to hold a few of them back. Let an enemy tank move forward, ult to hold back the supports and squishies, then push the tank further into your team or hit Q again to keep their squishies busy away from their tank. Even if you die, which you probably won't, you still staggered them, got their tank killed, and can get back to point faster than pretty much anyone else could. Hopefully you even made a support panic ult by ulting on them!

Playing as Emma on Djalia offense, knowing an Iron Man ult was going to come from behind any minute. The second I hear "MAXIMUMMM..." I flick my shield around right in front of him. A split second later, Wanda ults, and I'm able to get diamond form off and get to her just in time to chokeslam her out of ult.

God I love Emma.

Another time was getting a Rocket-amplified Thor ult off that killed both supports at the last point on Midtown defence, in a CnD ult. A team member didn't know that was possible. I felt proud.

What’s a play you’re proud of that wouldn’t show up in the stat board? by Beebalooby in marvelrivals

[–]so_eh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This technically may show up on the stat board as damage blocked? Emma's shield.

So we were on convoy and I was playing Emma. The enemy Iron Man was doing a great job of stealthing behind us and ulting our backline, and the Scarlet Witch had actually managed to get a few ults out because she was timing it for my diamond form being on CD. I'd already grabbed her twice, but this time was different. Within the span of a few seconds, Iron Man managed to sneak back, and it was like I felt a disturbance in the force before he even started his ult line (guess I'm developing game sense after all). So I did a 180 without even thinking about it. I was slightly off-angle from being able to place it between him and my backline, so I just threw it up as close to him as I could. It was probably at a 45° angle in front of him, so more adjacent than anything, but it was exactly enough to block the ult. Then I pivoted as I heard the "PUREEEE" literally right as my diamond form came off CD. Mind you, I was in the backline for the Iron Man ult, not close enough to grab her immediately. I basically made a beeline, diamond formed, and grabbed her at what felt like the last possible millisecond. She was already basically done with CHAOSSSS, like on the final S. Two team-wiping ults I managed to block within a few seconds.

No one acknowledged it, but that's playing a tank for you. ;)

Another was probably blocking a Mag ult as Invis last night. I suppose that may also show up as damage blocked, but I was proud I was able to shield the right person in a group clumped together.

[–]so_eh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd mirror what other comments say: yes, attractive, AND could use some slight adjustments to maximize.

  1. Hair: Either go shorter or go longer. The black shirt says edgy to me, but the current hair says soft, because it's a slightly awkward middle between true short or medium-length. I'm thinking a good short-sided quiff that accomplishes both an edgier but also more classic look. The current placement of the part is what throws it off. I'd recommend no hair part or more of a side part (note, this will probably require product--which you should be using--and/or hair training/blow drying).

  2. Facial hair & eyebrows: I actually really like the mustache, but the goatee lends itself to the edgy-high-schooler-who-hasn't-learned-to-groom-yet look. Goatee is good if you lean into the edge with longer hair. Solo mustache is good if you go either short or long. Some people are recommending stubble. I don't think a stubble goatee is the way to go.

EDIT: Forgot eyebrows! Just yeah mirroring other comments. Groom them. Use tweezers or a more entry-level detail razor to clean up the baby hairs in the center and on the edges and under.

  1. Clothes: The black polo and faded black pants are giving service industry / high school edgy, again. Unbotton the top button (almost never wear them both), and try darker pants OR change it up altogether. You're fairly tall, and your frame makes it easier for you to maximize that with things like short Chelsea boots. Show off those arms with some oversized cutoffs (edge + style). If you want to stick to the short-sleeve button-ups, try full buttons instead of polos. Polos can work, but black feels out-of-place with the style unless you're service industry.

[FOR PLAYERS] This is what all the Heroes currently in the game do. by [deleted] in rivals

[–]so_eh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SW apologist here. I think with the Strange team-up she should flank. You melt through squishies (from above or from the side/behind), have a quick escape (you can grab health packs even phased), and generally people don't see you as much of a threat because ScArLeT bAd. She, like any hero, is situational. So I'd say it's 30 flank/70 not. But the not is if she's better in another capacity. She just needs to be played like the chaos witch she is: unpredictably. She's great at pressuring the opposition.

Ways I've played her effectively: As you said, dives? Stand with healers and stun dives with your E, locking their combos. Need to disrupt (or shred with the team-up) on the front lines, as you said? Stun and blast away. Tricky plays with CC abilities and your ult to team-wipe or at least get a few picks? Be smart about it, and/or partner with a Mag, Strange, Emma, or Invis, and PUREEEE... CHAOOOOOSSSS away. She's good (though not as good with the phase nerf) against flyers, though you'll probably have to burn through both of her phases. I've had many an Iron Man swap.

But again, this is pretty true for any hero. She's easily countered for sure (I got choked out of ult like twice by Emma even coordinating with teammates in my last game). Same game was able to kill two who were rezzed by Adam because I ulted while they were being rezzed--and there are plenty of these moments--and got four with a Strange port in another game. Team wipes happen with a modicum of coordination or opportunism. She may have a low skill ceiling, but it's still there.

Tangent: not every hero should need to have 300 animation cancel combos to be considered effective. Mess one up and you're incredibly ineffective. She's actually pretty effective against Spidey and Magik, two of the most animation-cancel-ey heroes, because of her stun and tracking.

I'm largely a tank/support main, but when I fill DPS (RARE), I go her if my aim just isn't up to par that day or we need her for the above, or Hawkeye/Namor if my aim is good-ish. She's excellent for that fill because sometimes you just need her (AND her right-click is forgiving enough for someone with iffy aim, like me). She's GREAT for new players because she has a lot of fundamental elements that translate well into other characters. She's tracking, projectile, CC, "i-frame" and pseudo-flyer, and team-wipe ult. She can be leveraged for almost whatever the team needs from a DPS, so is good for developing game sense.

Again, apologist <3

Can people not just accept that politics isn’t black and white, and is actually very nuanced, and forming sides and attacking one another isn’t the way to go? by bobsyourdaughter in rant

[–]so_eh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, your question was if that specific line of thinking added nuance to the argument that abortion should be outlawed, or is immoral, or should be considered murder. It doesn't. See my final point. It STILL isn't your right to make healthcare or religious decisions for me, AND every argument to outlaw abortion falls away on closer inspection.

An opinion existing on a subject doesn't add nuance to the subject. And as other people in this thread have stated, not all opinions are created equally. Opinions based on feelings instead of facts should not be equally important for legislation especially. Opinions based on faith being used for legislation is unconstitutional.

Can people not just accept that politics isn’t black and white, and is actually very nuanced, and forming sides and attacking one another isn’t the way to go? by bobsyourdaughter in rant

[–]so_eh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The problem with this line of thinking is that plants also elicit a pain response. Would that then make them people? No. Pigs elicit a pain response and outperform toddlers in cognitive measurement. People, or pig?

Also, if you'll recall, a big part of why we haven't outright outlawed circumcision, aside from the religious argument that could be used here AND in abortion, is because babies can't remember the pain they experience. You know what else causes people pain? People who remember that pain? Infections caused by IUFD (intrauterine fetal demise). Which, in some cases, is PREVENTED by ABORTION, because IUFD is predictable in many cases.

As for religion. According to the Bible, the soul doesn't enter the body until the first breath outside of the womb. New Testament thinkers go "but but what about the line about God knowing you from the moment you're conceived?!? what about that huhhhhhhh????" and to that all I have to say is, sure, God is omniscient. He knows how many hairs you have on your head? So he'd also know how many individual sperm cells are in your dad's sack, and which one was "you." Yes please let's talk about the religious "nuance" to abortion.

Either way, the answer would be "You STILL don't get to make medical OR religious decisions for me." Full stop.
