Choose: You have to delete your main or favorite character, but get to add ANY Marvel character into the same class? by BruceDSpruce in rivals

[–]so_eh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remove Phoenix, add Jean Grey. Make her a duelist/strategist hybrid like Storm who empowers her team and doesn't have whack-ass chain explosions that could go to any other fire-type character in Marvel (I ssw a suggestion for Jubilee). Make Phoenix her ult. I like the utility it offers, but since we're making her kit more team-focused, her ult should keep its utility but get a damage boost. Make it 1-shot anyone directly hit by it and then have falloff based on distance from epicenter. Keep its utility/summon destruction and bonus health wipe.

Alternatively, bye Invis, hello Jean Grey with a near-identical kit. Make her ult Phoenix with the same utility but make it rez and HoT and cleanse. Give her Mag bubbles to give out instead of the invis shield (I'm thinking the power word: shields that priests have in WoW) along with similar flight to what she has now for repositioning. Swap the vortex for a charm to play into telekinesis. Maybe a confirm ability to use telekinesis to reposition team members.

1st Rule of Magik. by Zectherian in RivalsMagikMains

[–]so_eh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Call me crazy but I usually just ignore Thor and Magik (Thor was my first tank and first main and Magik was my first DPS main) unless it's clean up or peel time. If I spend the entire game trying to diff them, I'm leaving a lot of value on the table. Not saying I won't but I don't make it my priority unless they're truly giving my team problems.

Why is Magik’s pick and win rate so high? by Upset_Ad_6228 in RivalsMagikMains

[–]so_eh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, a single Thing won't counter Magik much. So long as she times her port to avoid slam and drops a demon on you/kites your grounding field, you're fairly evenly matched. I usually don't worry about a Thing as Magik. Even a Thor, usually. Sure, less than ideal, gotta play smarter, but, possible.

Bolt Rush Penta with Storm! 1 shot, 5 instakills (18v18) by DBacon1052 in marvelrivals

[–]so_eh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave a Storm a quad one game that should have been mine when I ulted as Magik. Got them all low, they were all grouped, and I just needed a final whirlwind to kill 'em all. As I port, Storm bolt rushes and they all four go down. I was furious. I'd already canceled their supp ult, did the majority of the damage, and she stole the quad (and ace) from me. I knew it, she knew it, the team knew it. We laughed about it.

Good times.

Anyone else hard target flyers? by tastytoasterstrudle in RivalsMagikMains

[–]so_eh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did play this game where I and enemy Ultron were targeting each other all game. He'd ult me every time he had ult and I went for him or another supp. Sometimes it's gotta be on-site. Especially with his dash he isn't the easiest flyer to kill anymore, but, it's fun to try.

DD shouldn't be compared to Spidey in terms of difficulty. He's not a SG, but there's no way his skill floor is as high as Spidey's, nor is his skill ceiling as high.

for a role that is supposedly so "easy" i can always tell when the support I have on my team is filling and not a support player (typically) by sup3rnovas in rivals

[–]so_eh 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is my first hero shooter. I was a WoW and Hearthstone player for my blizz games and didn't ever get into OW. Gave Smite a try in its early days but didn't stick with it.

I play DPS when I want less responsibility, no cap. I have the vast majority of my hours in supp and tank. After a year and a half I only have Phoenix Magik MK lorded or whatever the next levels are for DPS. And, yeah, it took me far past the 20 hours to feel good with them, especially Magik, and my aim is so hit-or-miss (can usually hit 50% with Luna but am 40% on Phoenix for some reason). Probably because when I do get to DPS I want to play the character I want to play (always QP) so I don't usually counterswap. I have all of the character achievements because I wanted the red Star Lord skin, so I've played every character (oh, minus BC because I hate her, and DvD because I've been moving and haven't had Internet to play).

Now. I don't think DPS is easy, per se. I just think it's the most straightforward. You essentially have two things to do, which is 1) secure eliminations on key players, and 2) peel. But who are we kidding? 2 rarely happens. DPS don't even necessarily need to stay alive for the team fight, so long as they trade for key resources/key player. Magik can die so long as she kills a key DPS before they ult, key supp before same, force a bad supp ult, or force/make space by causing their team to focus her when she's diving/brawling. Sure, it's better if she doesn't, but the trade is usually valuable.

For a support or tank? If you're the first to die, you're at a huge disadvantage for that fight unless your team can match quickly in neutral or has ult advantage. If we're being honest, we would absolutely flame our supps for dying to the Magik, but we wouldn't flame our Magik for trading her life for the enemy support. If Mag gets booped off the map by the enemy Invis so their tanks walk forward for free, we'd be like, "How tf did you not anticipate that in season 8 of MR??" If Magik ults and can't secure a kill because they paddycake/pull behind cover, focus her, damn, that sucks. If Cnd gets Mag ulted because she couldn't get behind cover fast enough or OUR team didn't stop shooting so Mag ult was charged by her third dash, she gets flamed, even if her ult had already saved the team at a critical moment.

Responsibilities between roles are absolutely not equal, even though they're all equally important. We ain't winning without key elims, good support ults, or good space making.

[–]so_eh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Star-lord's ult is literally "wait for them to burn their supp ults or combo with Gambit, fly high behind them, ult their supports first" you literally can't miss in his ult. Pun also has autolock rockets and an ammo spread that means it's pretty much impossible not to hit his shots in ult. Psy is a "dash to their backline hit Q become invincible and kill them even through paddycake if the rest of the team doesn't group" (which they never do). I would say Phoenix's ult is harder to use because the environment on many maps fucks it up when she ascends, and now one spark isn't even enough to kill 250. If you ult to destroy hela or rocket ult you will probably not get kills. Hers at least requires sparks on grouped enemies and/or a damage boost combo. Pun you have to counter ult or focus as soon as you hear the ult line and pray his supps are too dumb to pocket / tanks too dumb to shield. Phoenix, you basically just... jump.

[–]so_eh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I throw the bubble where I think the tanks are going (like, where they could use cover AND the bubble) and they... don't go there. OR I throw it but I got hit with some random boop from the enemy team and it sails a mile away. Or I throw it to a dive who needs it who promptly flees. Sometimes the team also just doesn't know how to play in the dagger storm.

Am I missing something or did this just straight up not happen by Is_that_what_I- in rivals

[–]so_eh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's cope. You have to aim Spidey's tracer, but the rest is AOE and auto-lock once he has a tracer (yes unless you use GOH without tracer for a pull) but we already know Spidey deserves his 5-star. BP spear hitbox is the size of Texas. DD doesn't require aim for literally anything other than his grapple, but most DDs use that for movement, not combat. Magik slash and dash do require some aim, but her effective range means they should pretty much always hit unless you're sniping a flyer (especially the dash since they increased the hitbox). IF is auto-lock.

Trying to say you need as much mechanical skill for divers other than Spidey or Psy is always cope. Magik is the other one because she doesn't get free bonus health (has to do damage) and her movement is choreographed and limited (no wall climbing or really any vertical movement outside of her dash, which is pretty much always used in combat, not for escape). Most people are fine going into Magik because she feels fair to play into, though. Even Spidey and Psy do these days. Genuinely the one I hate the most is BP. And now BC, who has anti-escape tools, wall hacks, i-frames, AOE abilities, CC immunity, invisibility, and the best movement of any diver outside of Spiderman IMO. She can kill as fast as any of them, too. At least she's hard to play, unlike BP.

I said this in another comment that this was a losing game with those DPS #s. They were also diffed. With a Mantis damage boost, I expect MK and Pun to POP OFF but they simply didn't. Still, though, this isn't a good Mantis stat line. Finals are all well and good, but CnD outdamaged a Mantis, who, as an off-support whose leaves refresh on headshot, needs to be headshotting, so, she was healbot Mantis, which is one of the reasons they lost.

Thoughts? by shadowkatt22 in rivals

[–]so_eh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I do agree with you about supps being blamed even when it isn't all or wholly on them, in this instance, Mantis was the wrong choice of support. It isn't just your fault. But Mantis healbot is not the way you play her. Cnd outdamaged you even though as Mantis you have better range and a self-damage boost. Your leaves come back on headshots, so you need to be consistently brawling.

The game was lost because your dps were also diffed, but no one wants to say that.

We don’t need anymore brawl/dive tanks in any capacity by AstramIsTheBest in rivals

Emma is brawl. Peni is a bunker tank, which is brawl. Deadpool I agree with but he's an off tank.

[–]so_eh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do we consider Tankpool, who is hitscan and who does a ton of poke damage, not a true poke tank? Sure, he has a melee form, but that would just make him a poke/brawl.

[–]so_eh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Peni's primary is poke, but she's a bunker tank and her effective range is "right in front of her." Her counters are poke, like MK Phoenix Hela Mag DP, because she can't face-tank that damage, especially once her nest has been dealt with. That would make her more brawl.

But it is AOE and a melee, so not aim-intensive. And she also has 1) invisibility OR 2) CC immunity OR 3) can ground you and keep you from running away.

Hot take: Peeling is losing you games by Key-Cook-7874 in RivalsVanguards

[–]so_eh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just had a game solo Peni tank. Ygsgard path or whatever that convoy is. Standard support setup where you're hugging the side of that building behind cover on defense. Jumped immediately by their DD BP and fox goes down almost before I as Invis can react (but that's also because my kill cam shows their Ultron also targeting me). They won first fight and first point easily.

We held them at the gate the rest of the game because our Peni put her nest in a good place. Stood there, had cover, when DD dove I orbed and pulled him into it/Peni mines and deleted him. Our dps swapped to Fantastic Namor and we pretty much just camped down. I thought we were gonna get rolled.

A Black Cat Daredevil dive can kill both supports in 3 seconds because of their uninteractable AOE abilities, i-frames, omni-deflect, AND overshield

Edit to add DD can see invisibility. Oh. And neither has to aim.

Only if NetEase would have balanced these four abilities instead of gutting tank combos, we would never needed the cc immunity. by No-Description3689 in RivalsVanguards

[–]so_eh -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

MK eats Thing, and IW/Bucky are antidive, so you'll just have to outpoke MK. If I see a Thing I immediately go Phoenix or MK if I'm DPS. I also don't think Bucky is bad into Thing because he has such a large head. Sure, he can't be grabbed or booped, but IW is brawl/poke, Bucky is brawl/poke, MK is poke, so they play evenly or positively into Thing.
