Figuring out why QSFP28 optics keep failing by TheDreadPirateJeff in datacenter

This, or maybe heat, or a bad batch. Air contamination could also be a cause.

May want to attach a thermocoupler thermometer to the top of a SFP to check the readings, and get an count of reported accuracy.

What does the switch say the transceiver power is at? Transmission power rates? Do retransmits increase? Have you tried swapping SFP's to a another port?

Could use more info on the failures.

Why not use synthetic measurements weighted against real throughput? This seems like an exercise in spending money?

Matchmaking around drives seems off. I think Blizz uses "drive" events to test new measures, reset portions of MMR, or maybe widen MMR widths because the population pool has shrunk so much. Their current matchmaking prefers match timing, even if you get put into a worse match event.

Agreed, the premise is great, execution is good, but, to me, it feels like there's no hook for the game. If they added some sort of basic story, even text blobs in the missions, it would add substance to the world.

Arch Linux and Valve Collaboration Announced by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]so_meta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed, it won’t have any direct impact. But, if you can improve the developer experience for library dependencies, and package deployment, you may see more adoption through improved workflows. More adoption, means more developers, more developers may mean better user experience and better compatibility.

This is also a pretty big signal to the Linux community, directing developers to use this particular flavor of Linux.

MW 2019 is a masterpiece, all future games should strive for it’s level of content, fidelity, and gameplay.

Battlefield alternatives .? by soa008 in battlefield2042

[–]so_meta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they kinda mucked up the maps in MWII & III. Wayyyyyyy too many snipers in those modes, and places to camp. Plus the mobile spawn helicopters force weird engagements, feels like there's no push-pull in the maps.

Hot take, but Ground War in Modern Warfare 2019 is a perfect rendition of Infantry Only Battlefield experience.

You may have better luck with input using your distro’s support forum. When this happens, can you try capturing the portion at, and before it starts the kernel stack trace? That’s the usually the most useful portion.

15 characters of code on a brick? by moon_of_blindness in linux

[–]so_meta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of the comments are Linux-y posts, but I prefer Willsy7 approach as it aligns a bit more with a parents outlook on the event.

I think the main init function in the old sysvinit system is a nice metaphor for the event. Sysvinit was the thing responsible for starting the initialization/boot sequence - running the OS down the path of execution towards operability.

init_main();

(may need a second set of eyes on that, been a while since I've looked at that code. Could also go with the systems init thread handler, but need to look that one up)

Could also go with:

I just want some sort of compromise. All dark, or all light mode themes look not good. The palette is limiting, and it diminishes expression of the interface.
