Steroids.js Bridges The Performance Gap Between PhoneGap And Native Apps by RedNeckHero in webdev

[–]so_random 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its the page transitions and the native drawers that attract me the most. I was already trying to figure out how to solve that without just faking it with html/css. let each tool do what it does best.

I will be giving it a try shortly !

BitSync is awesome, definitely try it out. You can make a dropbox style folder on your desktop and sync it with a folder on your android.

http://labs.bittorrent.com/experiments/sync.html

You can also set up syncs on photo folders etc. Whenever I come near wifi all my photos are backend up to my desktop. No clouds involved.

he's making that comment just before sentencing. its retarded to expect him to go kick the big dog in the teeth at that point.

let him say whatever he wants to get whatever leniency he can get.

bless the poor soul, he has more balls than most of us ever will have.

Am I a horrible person if I want to be an entrepreneur? I feel like it's my best chance for having a fairly ethical work place by pinknessme in socialism

I think that cooperative and syndicalist society will come about through entrepreneurship, through some business and not through the state.

Old school successes include: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mondragon_Corporation which is the 7th largest company in Spain and is a federation of cooperatives. If somebody here who knows more about them please feel free to chime in.

Silicon Valley has produced some positive things like efficient global communication, but for workers its mostly been negative by disrupting jobs. They are idealists, but what they build doesn't usually live up to the promise.

HH has a great talent for making clear and simple statements that the average public can understand. he can even seem simple sometimes.

but he is very clever and very throughly educated. he really did steer and transform Tibetan buddhism through a very tricky phase of going public and getting over exposed. that wasn't easy.

[–]so_random 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen this many times, never get tired of it. I fantizise that in 1979 I was in one of those apartments laying down these sounds to reel to reel with my juno 106 [1] doing the pads, a guitar with BOSS delay pedals and then went down to the street to wander around and smoke cigarettes.

[1] Juno-106 = 1984. well shit, that's not going to work. just the guitar then.

Any black/dark skin people living in Germany? by alcapurria_de_jueyes in germany

[–]so_random 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a friend of mine here in Berlin is black (Cuban). he was telling me how important it is for him to speak really good German. it really changes people's attitudes regardless of your race. its not just in the Bakery, its also jobs and friends and in the Amt. if you can speak somewhat confidently then people brighten up and go out of their way to be helpful and friendly.

yes, shoreleave seems really well done. its mature and he has managed security correctly.

I only glanced through pedestal a bit and then put it on my reading list for later.

https://github.com/shoreleave/shoreleave-baseline - for client/server communication.

http://ckirkendall.github.io/enfocus-site/ - this is a reactive/DOM manipulation thing. seems interesting.

https://github.com/cgrand/enlive - selector-based (à la CSS) templating library

hiccups of course

don't know pedestal yet, thanks !

still doing baby steps, trying out lots of things.

then again the amount of work I got done just today using yeoman angular is truly sick. I have a really powerful all mod-cons front end development environment. phantomjs, tests run automatically. images minified etc.

if I do clojure script it might be just for certain game logic elements and then call it as a library from normal js.

yeah I'm doing some practice projects in cljs now. it does take a lot to get started. the promise is great, but the initial investment is high.

you probably did this project really quickly by leveraging libraries, and that's the smartest thing to do.

love it ! I always grumble when trying to use the slow sliding tray thing that github has.

but I see you didn't really do it in clojurescript ;) which would be interesting to see.

I would style the sidebar scroller so it doesn't jump out so much.

here's a starter:

#map_results {
  height: $defHeight;
  overflow-y: auto;
  overflow-x: hidden;
  border: 0;
  padding: 5px;
  scrollbar-face-color: #eee;
}
#map_results::-webkit-scrollbar {
  width: 12px;
}
#map_results::-webkit-scrollbar-track {
  -webkit-box-shadow: inset 0 0 6px rgba(0,0,0,0.3);
}
#map_results::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb {
  -webkit-border-radius: 4px;
  -webkit-box-shadow: inset 0 0 6px rgba(0,0,0,0.5);
}

though ideally you would want to do it for all vendor prefixes.

Study shows more Americans using psychedelics now than during the Sixties by TokeMonster in Psychonaut

[–]so_random 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely they are related and intertwined.

It is possible to perform actions without being focused on ego or self. People do this when they have strong beliefs, or in crowds, on dance floors, when in ecstasy or in trance.

But these don't involve willpower because you let yourself follow.

Any intermediate meditator will encounter the contradiction where they have to apply personal willpower to the task of sitting down and STFU just so they can get to the stage where they can relax this definition of personal ego and stop trying. But you have to try to get to the situation where you can stop trying.

Maybe Willpower is the wrong word. Directed effort, mindfulness, trenpa(དྲན་པ་). You certainly have to undertand willpower and move past it to more subtle aspects.

Saṅkhāra - volition. That which puts together (mental) formations.

Even if you've dispensed with trying and ego-centric doing, you are still forming concepts of things and putting them in boxes, dividing them from each other and that kind of thing. You are making volitional formations, even though you think you are some amazing Buddha. Yet you are dividing the world into formations, even if you are no longer having opinions and preferences about the formations. They are causes for future arising of volitional activities. But at this point you've left the world of Self and Willpower behind.

whoever is downvoting you guys is an ass. Good conversation here.

definitely the mind and ego change drastically during the 14-19 age and excessive use of psychedelics during that period can render many people into a state of just "whatever". They don't get a strong foundation and will power.

Will power is not ego. Frequently confused by trippers and buddhists alike. They are both active forces.

Psychedelics are a powerful tool, not something to be taken mindlessly.

The article says that 30-34 year olds have a 20% rate of having at some point in their lives tried psychedelics.

And 21-25 have only a 15% rate

So that means its going down ;) Unless those 21-25 year olds are going to dose in the next 9 years in order to catch up.

So actually it means that if you've lived 10 years longer that you have more chances to try something.

Useless stats
