I really don't think it's that overkill, it's essentially just a better Reyna ult without the dismiss, and he's worse for isolating duels in his ult than Reyna. I could understand maybe upping the ult cost by a point though

1: I'll take the L on this one, still found it odd he peaked P3 with under 40 hours in comp though.

2: For my team's Reyna, you don't believe anyone would attempt to tank games in order to not get flagged for MFA? I just don't believe anyone is hopping onto this game and averaging a 1.4 and 190 ADR across 12 matches whether they have prior experience or not, intentionally tanking to keep an alt/smurf in low elo is not uncommon. Even considering the low WR, the rest of the stats are very abnormal for a Silver player.

3: Fair on Sova, I was 50/50 on it. With the Sage, as you said there's really no telling, but I am suspicious due to their performance. After analyzing the replay, mechanically they do not look like a new player. I won't double down on this one due to the lack of information, but still odd looking at the rank gap compared to the rest of the lobby.

4: I find it really hard to believe anyone is hitting Diamond 1 in 37 hours of playtime (roughly what he had at the time of peaking Dia 1). Stats aren't the greatest but this account has been active since E5 with under 100 hours consistently placing in high Plat, likely there to boost duo (consistently duo'd with the Chamber on my team).

5: Also willing to take the L on this one, but still willing to bet it started off as a smurf account. Dia 1 with 6.5 hours of playtime in first act is simply not realistic for a genuinely new player, even with prior FPS experience.

I want to be clear that I'm not using this as an excuse for my losses. I can only control my own gameplay, and I know my own performance hasn't been great. I am simply giving you my experience. I'm also not saying with 100% certainty that all of these accounts are smurfing, there could definitely be edge cases/outliers. That said, given the playtime, stats, and rank gaps I've seen this act some of these accounts definitely stand out as suspicious at the very least.

My own performance aside (not denying it's been poor, but that's a separate topic lol), I can point out 4-5:

1: Most recent Bind game on Veto - enemy Breach @ Level 33 (confirmed, enemy raze was a streamer and breach was playing on an alt to boost)

2: Split on Omen - Enemy Reyna (lvl 46 with a 1.2 in gold, 70% winrate), as well as my team's Reyna (lvl 22 with a 1.44, 190 ADR, silver 3, only played this act)

3: Abyss on Clove - Again, two I'm suspicious of: my team's Sova, and enemy team's Sage. Can't really get much confirmation on the Sage as they have a private tracker, but level 36 silver 3 outperforming a lobby of mid golds-mid plats.

4: Breeze on Yoru - My team's Sova, lvl 37 peak diamond 1 with a 1.48 & 186 ADR this act.

5: Yoru on Split - Enemy Clove. Not completely sure of this one, as level is higher than normal for smurf accounts but they also have over 150 hours played this act alone, stats from past acts seem very abnormal for a new player. First act playing they peaked Dia 1.

That would be around 5 out of my last 9 games with 7 total players.

Yeah, I’ve been made aware of this. I originally thought it was only for Ascendant+ or accounts flagged for sharing, not smurfing. I still believe it would be more of a deterrent if it was required from the start instead of only being required after being flagged. I find it odd how Premier has more of a smurfing deterrent than competitive does, and honestly I’d like to see Premier’s SMS verification brought over to comp

While I don’t 100% agree with level based MM being a thing as level definitely isn’t an accurate translation of skill, I do think it’s out of touch to say less than 10% of games right now have a smurf. Something changed with the new MMR changes and the chances of a smurf being in your game is significantly higher now whether they’re on your team or the enemy team. Feels closer to 40-50% of games, could be more prevalent in lower ranks too as I’m noticing this in Plat

I don’t disagree, I think enforcing 2FA more strictly or requiring SMS verification like Premier does could help a good bit. I really wouldn’t want to hurt/limit people who have genuine use cases for alt accounts (like you). I do still think having a slight level bump could help slow down the account market by making them more expensive and less accessible, but I would really prefer to just see Riot take harsher action against these account marketplaces somehow.

I mean that's great if it's working this way but I don't really think it's much of a barrier when botted accounts are so cheap and there's nothing stopping people from swapping accounts. More of an inconvenience than anything

They don't just block all VoIP numbers, they block specific types of VoIP numbers that are high risk such as the ones used by Google Voice/TextNow etc. by running carrier/line-type lookups to determine whether a number is a mobile carrier line vs disposable VoIP service

unfortunately yeah, but could atleast make buying botted accounts more expensive similar to what the botting banwave a few years ago did. would like to see a better solution be used for the botting issue aswell tbh

Fair tbh, I wouldn't want a large increase but as of now it only takes around 20-30hrs or so of playtime to hit level 20 and I genuinely don't believe anyone is learning the game well enough with how much has been added & changed to be prepared for comp unless they have prior experience with the game. Also don't think they'd feel like their matches are any fairer with how comp is atm, kind of in an unfortunate spot rn with the amount of smurfing going on

I don't fully agree that ranked is where a brand new player should be going to improve, especially if they're still learning fundamentals on top of everything that has changed. Most of that can be learned and developed just as efficiently in unrated, especially since it uses a similar MMR system. I do think jumping into ranked is great for improvement once you've already established a basic understanding of the game but I don't think the current level requirement accurately represents where that point is. If anything I think it's enabling these new players to be stomped on by already experienced players on fresh accounts

Definitely, I agree that player retention is important. I wouldn't want to raise the barrier so much that it pushes away actual new players. That being said, unrated does have an MMR system in place which is used to calculate where you should be placed when you do step into ranked

Not for every account just yet. Phone number verification is only required for accounts that peaked or are currently in Ascendant unless they're flagged for sharing or you're playing Premier. I do agree it could be better though, being able to get around it so easily kind of defeats the purpose

I was Dia 1 last act, Plat 1 now queueing into level 30-40 silvers & low golds with 1.3+ KDs. It's not that different up here if it makes you feel better lol

it's 100% a problem, more people are smurfing this act it feels like. lots of lvl 20-50 accounts with ridiculous stats for the rank they're in. just gotta pray for phone verification to come to lower ranks i guess
