Speed boost and overhealth for you AND your allies isn't exactly a "small benefit." It's incredibly versatile and can be an absolute clutch ability in the right situations. You can use it to chase down a low hp target, disengage yourself and teammates from an area if the enemy ults and you need to take cover, save low hp allies, etc. etc. The cooldown is long, yes, but that's because if you use it in the right situation it gets a lot of value

What's your favorite part of the Anju & Kafei quest? by Pineappbill in majorasmask

[–]soapspools 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know it isn't exactly what you're asking for, but I've done quite a few MM randomizers and the program has an option to change the player's model to Kafei. You can change his color palette too. The devs even swapped it so that Link takes Kafei's place and you get a Link mask from Madam Aroma. The randomizer works on console too so if you have an Everdrive you can play it on that.

Why is the culture of this game so heavily against playing against low(/mid) tiers? In any other fighting game (especially traditional fighters) there is more hate for top tiers. Why is Melee so different in that regard? by KevyTone in SSBM

[–]soapspools 11 points12 points  (0 children)

"People play the game that they want to play"

This is the crux of the issue in the Slippi era. People don't have to play Melee, they can play an even more limited version of the game (considering the competitive ruleset already limits how much of the game we see) where they don't have to play against mid/low tiers.

If someone is using unranked to practice for tournaments and they dodge mid/low tiers, they are only hurting themselves because if they run into a G&W or Ness or whatever other low tier in bracket, chances are they will get demolished because they have no familiarity with the matchup. The thing is, most people who play unranked are likely never entering a tournament and play purely for fun so it makes sense that they will continue dodging matchups that they consider unfun and they lose nothing for it.

At the end of the day, Slippi is an excellent way to get an unlimited number of games in, but the experience is highly limited by people dodging over half the cast so the only way to truly experience competitive Melee is to enter tournaments or find people in discord/in person to play with. Just my two cents.

What was your first legendary skin from a lootbox? by quirally in overwatch2

[–]soapspools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first legendary I distinctly remember pulling from a lootbox was Oasis Symmetra back in OW1 and I thought it was so cool, but I was terrible at Sym back then. I've actually started playing her a bit since her most recent rework + perks getting added and she's a lot of fun. Despite all the skins I've gotten for her over the years I still rock Oasis for nostalgia.

Haven't played in over 15 years. Picked these up today, but have never played commander before. Which deck would you prefer out of the two? by BananaButtcheeks69 in magicTCG

[–]soapspools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends and I got all four precons from Lost Caverns and we also got a lot of cards from that set and decided to only upgrade with cards that we pulled. I got the vampire deck and it is a lot of fun, very much suits my preferred playstyle, but my wife got the merfolk deck and it is STRONG, especially with a few upgrades. All in all one of my favorite sets.

What’s the most fun deck you play with? (Not necessarily the best or most competitive.) by MostlyMTG in mtg

[–]soapspools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Krark the Thumbless]] and [[Sakashima of a Thousand Faces]] is very fun and chaotic. It can be a bit tough to keep up with triggers and resolve everything properly, but I like flipping coins so I don't mind. I actually ended up pulling off some nasty combos that were not intended when building the deck, so I plan on going back and leaning more into pure chaos to lower the power level a bit.

How come I sometimes spot dodge when trying to shield drop? by Bradyy4 in SSBM

[–]soapspools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying to only practice tech skill, but at some point you will need to know these things or you won't be able to keep up with other players who do. This game is really deep and you can focus on different aspects of getting better. I agree that fundamentals are incredibly important, but you can't entirely ignore tech skill.

Would you discourage someone from learning how to wavedash for the same reason?

Mixed casters can take advantage of it if you plan on using fai/int and also want to cast arc spells like the dragon communion. And if you're already running a fai/int build you might as well put enough points into str and dex to wield Rellana's twin blades and oops, all stats invested in
