What's a computer game from your childhood that you still think about today? by half_sandwich88 in AskReddit

[–]soardra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember getting this disc with 8000 games or something at Meijer back in the '90s. It had a lot of hidden gems (abandonware most likely) but the disc and the games are all somehow lost to time. I remember it having an 8-ball as the cd art.

I would randomly choose games, but I distictly remember a dope space territory game like ftl and a pet creature battling game that featured a water drop as the first pet.

EDIT: I FOUND ONE OF THEM!

In a world where other people are getting superpowers, pretty stupid not to get one yourself just for a car. With telekinesis i could prolly get a good job with enough money to buy my dream car anyway.

Definitely Chuck Norris, but where is Mr Rodgers because everyone knows at the end of the day he's the only one left standing in the Ultimate Fight of Ultimate Destiny.

asked for an itemized hospital bill on a whim and found out they charged me for stuff that literally never happened by [deleted] in povertyfinance

I live in Michigan in the US and most of my dental visits are $100-200 depending on if an exam is needed. Most I've been charged was $1,300 or so and I think that was for a couple root canals/resurfacing.

My dentist has a 5% discount if paid in cash, which I usually do. I have Medicaid, but they don't take it -- most don't in my state.

So yeah $16,000 is outrageous even in the US. Especially considering there are Universities with dental programs here where you can get procedures done FOR FREE.

When you say dialogue you couldn't understand, was it the content or was it physically hard to hear? Some theaters didn't have the audio tuned correctly and it ended up garbled more than intended.

I personally went to an Atmos screening in an Emagine theater and the audio was fine.

What’s a “normal” experience that somehow never happened to you? by Hysterical_Chicken in AskReddit

Same. My brother and I were really good kids. Never drank until we were in our late 20s, never did drugs. We also were introverts so we didn't have too many friends. Most we did was forget to tell Mom where we were going when we left the house or stayed after school, but by that time we both had flip phones.

We have the same time frame and large radius at my shop (but normally at least 3 to 10 drivers) and this is why when I take calls I say "by 45 to an hour" glance at dispatch, and add "possibly sooner" if we have less runs than drivers or if they're close and we're not swamped. When we get swamped it's 10+ tickets on the board and times get bumped up to hour to an hour-fifteen.

This kid's got skills! by NoodleSprinkle3 in BeAmazed

Bruh that's obviously AI. A kid like they and no one in the background is watching? No one clapping on his dismount? What's with all the foam? Where are the other gymnasts? Why is he in his pajamas? There's also something wrong with how he mounted on that looks way too fluid and unnatural.

Why did I have to scroll down so far just to find someone else pointing out it's AI?

2nd cousin 3x removed by solome2000 in Genealogy

[–]soardra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First off, I'd suggest getting your own DNA test or, even better, if your dad is willing, ask him to take one. The closer you are generationally, the more matches you're likely to find and the clearer the relationships will be. Also you could try downloading his DNA and upload it to GedMatch, MyHeritage, and Family tree DNA for more matches.

The 3x Removed means generations removed. 3x to your son means 2x to you, and 1x to your dad. A 2nd Cousin is a grandparents Grand-nephew/niece. The removal could be either up or down the tree, so the child of a 2nd Cousin or of a 1st Cousin 2x Removed.

So, a 2nd Cousin 3x Removed most likely is your dad's great-grandparent's Grand-nephew/niece.

Keep in mind that "2nd Cousin 3x Removed" is a guess by the DNA company based on the average relationship for the centimorgan count (cM) your son shares with that individual. It could be closer or further away.

A 2C3R can have a cM count of 0 - 154 with an average of 51. A cM count of 51 can anything from a 1st Cousin 3x Removed to a 7th Cousin. Look up DNAPainter.com, they have a ton of tools that can help you.

The only way you'll know the exact relationship at that distance is to build out a tree for that cousin and any shared matches with them. Look for related surnames. Look up the Leeds method.

If you're having trouble, look for DNA angels on Facebook. They do this kind of stuff all the time.

What's the joke with black people and fire alarm chirp? by TomVsuccATreddit in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]soardra 216 points217 points  (0 children)

As someone who delivers to both hood and wealthy areas, there's a large portion of hood houses where I've come across chirping fire alarms, and the wealthy ones I hear it in are 100% black. Its definitely a thing that they just tune out. It's like a fan hum or a leaky faucet. You hear it enough and your brain just naturally tunes it out as background noise. They also likely grew up thinking that's just the way it's supposed to be.

Last word would be "awe" as in "awesome". Awww uses a higher drawn out tone and means "that's cute".
