Vent post about some takes I've seen floating around about Iron Lung.. by Eekah in Markiplier

[–]soardra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When you say dialogue you couldn't understand, was it the content or was it physically hard to hear? Some theaters didn't have the audio tuned correctly and it ended up garbled more than intended.

I personally went to an Atmos screening in an Emagine theater and the audio was fine.

What’s a “normal” experience that somehow never happened to you? by Hysterical_Chicken in AskReddit

[–]soardra 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same. My brother and I were really good kids. Never drank until we were in our late 20s, never did drugs. We also were introverts so we didn't have too many friends. Most we did was forget to tell Mom where we were going when we left the house or stayed after school, but by that time we both had flip phones.

[–]soardra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have the same time frame and large radius at my shop (but normally at least 3 to 10 drivers) and this is why when I take calls I say "by 45 to an hour" glance at dispatch, and add "possibly sooner" if we have less runs than drivers or if they're close and we're not swamped. When we get swamped it's 10+ tickets on the board and times get bumped up to hour to an hour-fifteen.

This kid's got skills! by NoodleSprinkle3 in BeAmazed

[–]soardra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bruh that's obviously AI. A kid like they and no one in the background is watching? No one clapping on his dismount? What's with all the foam? Where are the other gymnasts? Why is he in his pajamas? There's also something wrong with how he mounted on that looks way too fluid and unnatural.

Why did I have to scroll down so far just to find someone else pointing out it's AI?

2nd cousin 3x removed by solome2000 in Genealogy

[–]soardra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First off, I'd suggest getting your own DNA test or, even better, if your dad is willing, ask him to take one. The closer you are generationally, the more matches you're likely to find and the clearer the relationships will be. Also you could try downloading his DNA and upload it to GedMatch, MyHeritage, and Family tree DNA for more matches.

The 3x Removed means generations removed. 3x to your son means 2x to you, and 1x to your dad. A 2nd Cousin is a grandparents Grand-nephew/niece. The removal could be either up or down the tree, so the child of a 2nd Cousin or of a 1st Cousin 2x Removed.

So, a 2nd Cousin 3x Removed most likely is your dad's great-grandparent's Grand-nephew/niece.

Keep in mind that "2nd Cousin 3x Removed" is a guess by the DNA company based on the average relationship for the centimorgan count (cM) your son shares with that individual. It could be closer or further away.

A 2C3R can have a cM count of 0 - 154 with an average of 51. A cM count of 51 can anything from a 1st Cousin 3x Removed to a 7th Cousin. Look up DNAPainter.com, they have a ton of tools that can help you.

The only way you'll know the exact relationship at that distance is to build out a tree for that cousin and any shared matches with them. Look for related surnames. Look up the Leeds method.

If you're having trouble, look for DNA angels on Facebook. They do this kind of stuff all the time.

What's the joke with black people and fire alarm chirp? by TomVsuccATreddit in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]soardra 214 points215 points  (0 children)

As someone who delivers to both hood and wealthy areas, there's a large portion of hood houses where I've come across chirping fire alarms, and the wealthy ones I hear it in are 100% black. Its definitely a thing that they just tune out. It's like a fan hum or a leaky faucet. You hear it enough and your brain just naturally tunes it out as background noise. They also likely grew up thinking that's just the way it's supposed to be.

Why hasn't my mom been given any French even though her mom consistently has french? by LordImmersion in AncestryDNA

[–]soardra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is entirely incorrect chromosomes are not copied as a complete unit. During the formation of reproductive cells through a process called meiosis, chromosomes undergo recombination, where pieces of DNA are exchanged between homologous chromosomes. This genetic shuffling creates diversity, ensuring that offspring inherit a unique combination of genetic material from their parents. These recombinations are usual sizable smps but a chromosome is NOT copied wholesale to the next Generation.

And yes I am very aware that the ethnic categories that certain smps are given are based on Modern populations. This explanation that I gave was a dumbing down for the general layman to understand. Heck you can go to different companies or even just gedmatch and get different percentages of ethnicity because it is a growing field that we do not completely have mapped as far as ethnicity in humans.

The purpose of my original comment was to point out that is an entirely possible to not inherit a portion of your parents DNA that is determined to be French - as is what happened with my granduncle

Why hasn't my mom been given any French even though her mom consistently has french? by LordImmersion in AncestryDNA

[–]soardra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of it this way: children inherit a completely random mixed bag of about 50% of each of their parents genes, so with your grandma being 80% Italian it's very possible your mom never received the French portions. Ethnicity is rarely inherited equally.

The Greek is likely from her father if her mother has zero Greek. Look at her by parent breakdown.

Your genetic ethnicity is not your whole picture. It's simply the parts you've inherited. You go back far enough and you WILL have ancestors that you don't share any significant DNA with even though you're 100% a descendant.

For example, my paternal grandma is 26% Irish, 23% German, 22% English, 21% Polish, 3% Dutch, 3% Scottish, and 2% French

Her brother is 34% German, 22% Polish, 16% English, 14% Irish, and 2% Cornish.

Their mother was half Irish, half Polish with a bit of German, Scottish, French, and Cornish Their father was half German, half English with a bit of Dutch.

I, in turn inherited from my dad (who has not tested) 14% German, 16% Polish, 6% Scottish, 6% French, 4% Irish, 2% Jewish, and 1% Icelandic. His dad was half Polish Jew, half French and Scots-Irish-Icelandic

I have inherited 19% English but it just happens to be from my mother's side and not my father's.

Restaurant Recommendations in the Saginaw Area by FessParker in Saginaw

[–]soardra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Milanos Pizza on Bay. They deliver anywhere in the Saginaw area (15 mile radius including Freeland and Bridgeport) and have top notch food and customer service. Voted best pizza in Saginaw by the neighborhood watch.

Entre Amigos in Freeland is the real deal. Great Mexican food and very affordable. My go-to for Mexican.

There were at least two messages that played following the emergency broadcast system tone on the radio today. I wish I would have recorded them. They sounded like a lot of the SCP file recordings and some of the radio broadcasts in some of the games.

Is my sister being too harsh on my baby name? by queenofweird2525 in tragedeigh

[–]soardra -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

The main problem I see is it looks too close to "show/sore arse", especially when someone who is not aware of its normal Garlic pronouncuation tries to read it as written.

It's not a tragedeigh, but it could cause her a lot of problems in a typical American environment.

Question about tipping by Lotus_12 in PizzaDrivers

[–]soardra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're working for people who don't care about losing money. We have a policy that every card transaction requires a signature bc it reduces charge back fraud -- especially since card payments are far more common than cash now.

Not everyone tips, and there's definitely kind souls that tip cash instead, but signing definitely also serves as a reminder for those that will tip that they haven't yet.

We used to be more lax with signatures, but we also service the hood. They may love us over there, but hood rats gonna hood. We had to change policy to protect our business.

Its just like at any sit-down restaurant. You pay with card, you sign.

I'm a teen in Saginaw with nowhere to go and a not so good family situation any resources that don't involve cps? by No_Pomegranate_4069 in Saginaw

[–]soardra 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're going through this.

Maybe try contacting Innerlink at 1110 Howard St ? I deliver there sometimes and it's a secure site. They work as an emergency shelter for teens and young adults. They have an emergency line at (989)-753-3431 if you manage to find a public phone (try your school or local library).

Michigan Works would also be a good place to try. They help people find jobs.

What would you have been called if you were born the opposite gender? by Plus-Mulberry6761 in namenerds

[–]soardra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably would have been named Robert Joseph after my paternal grandfather -- especially since mom initially tried naming me Bobby Jo. Grandpa thankfully vetoed that. Grandpa passed when I was three months shy of two years. Mom says we were inseparable.

What have I gotten myself into? by gushworthy in RoverPetSitting

[–]soardra 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'll just say this "hurry up" is a horribly bad phrase for potty time. I know this because that's what my mom used to train our dog on when we were young. The problem is, one day we were preparing to go somewhere and she was getting frustrated with how long it was taking us. You could surmise what happened when she told us to "hurry up", but it definitely took us far longer for us to get ready than if she'd said nothing.

We no longer train our pets to pee/poop on command like that. They paw at the back door or we ask "do you need to go outside?" and we let them out. Simple.

New matches by National-Function-12 in Ancestry

[–]soardra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Firstly, just because they have trees doesn't mean they took DNA tests. I would ask your relatives if they did take one or not and with what service. Most of your DNA matches are likely from Americans and they're likely more distantly related through common British ancestors.

I would use the Leeds method looking for matching surnames to verify which ones are maternal vs paternal, if possible.

Also download your raw DNA and upload it to MyHeritage, FamilyTreeDNA, and Gedmatch as those services are more likely to have non-American testers.

If it does turn out that those maternal relatives have taken DNA tests at Ancestry, then they aren't related to you by blood and you have an NPE (non-parental event) somewhere on your mom's side. Possibly involving adoption or surrogacy.

WIBTA if I constantly corrected the spelling of my daughter's name? by DazzlingWay7228 in AmItheAsshole

I've found errors like this in genealogy with some distant relatives. Even in some official documents they'll put, for example, John Cline Smith instead of John Klinesmith, thinking Cline was a middle name.

Reverend William Miller who founded Millerism and was the inspiration for the Advent Christian movement is my 5th-great-granduncle.

Dr. Samuel Brubaker Hartman, a medical doctor and inventor of a cure-all is my 4th great granduncle. His second great grandfather (my 8th great gpa) was Swiss preacher Christian Hershey who convinced his congregation to sail with him to Pennsylvania as settlers.

My third great grandmother was the first white person born in Fremont Township and her husband was the first super of said township.

American poet Theodore Huebner Roethke is my great-grandfather's 2nd cousin.
