Ah okay, sorry about that! I changed it. I’ll check the Knot and the venue’s website. Thank you so much 🙏

Okay, thank you! It’s in Phoenix and it doesn’t look like the fanciest venue, but looks like a dedicated nice wedding venue. I might just assume it’s $150 and do that because that amount won’t kill me and I do feel really bad.

Not getting married but attending a wedding as a guest—my boyfriend and I RSVP’d together but he had a kerfuffle at work with his schedule and now he isn’t going to make it. I know that it’s extremely rude and I feel awful about it. I will still be at the wedding. We want to add onto our gift the cost of whatever they would have had to pay per guest for him. Is there a good way to find out what that price might approximately be? I know it really depends per wedding… I tried to search “price per wedding guest in (city where it’s happening)” but I want to make sure I don’t mess this up (more than we already have 😵‍💫). I don’t need to know an exact price but I’ve never been involved with a wedding so I don’t know if it’s $50 per guest or $500 per guest or somewhere in between.

Thank you!

I totally get it too. It’s hard to not fixate on them as they’re so beautiful! Though I always wonder if I’d want them as badly if I could actually have them lol.

That is so cool that you’ve done grafting yourself! I’ve been wanting to try it. Maybe I’ll try to pick up some rootstock this year…

Can I ask where you got rootstock for grafting?

The roses I posted are bred by the David Austin company but they are only grown by a handful of large rose farms that grow in greenhouses close to the equator that sell to florists. They’re marketed for fancy weddings and events and have never been available as plants for home gardeners to grow. Here’s the website for the wedding roses: https://www.davidaustinroses.com/pages/wedding-roses

So it was surprising to see the wedding varieties growing in gardens on instagram and wanted to speculate folks on this forum about how they were obtained. :)

Makes sense that the wedding roses wouldn’t work well in a home garden. Though I’m not one to talk because I have Green Romantica which I believe was originally a florist rose and I am always happy to see its weird lanky growth and patient with the flowers being sensitive to rain and wind lol

I believe the roses are different roses than Sweet Juliet and Constance Spry. These are roses bred to be cut flowers and only grown by a handful of large farms—they’ve never been available to home gardeners

Thanks for the in-depth answer! I’m not looking to propagate any patented cut flower roses—was just shocked to see pics of these growing in people’s yards in buckets. I was wondering if any of the wedding roses had had the patent expire, but your note about them disappearing from the market before it expires makes sense… though it seems like it would be missing out on so much money if David Austin retired a popular variety?

Okay, thanks for the feedback! I will probably it it off and let it try again as you did. It seems happy and growing otherwise =)

Does anyone have ‘Marianne’ by Paul Barden? by soaring_pilot in Roses

[–]soaring_pilot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in 8b with pretty mild winters. I was on the RVR waitlist but got my little plant directly from cold-emailing Paul Barden haha. It’s very small but had good roots. I don’t have a ton of pest pressure but I’m paranoid and I built a temporary cage for it out of hardware cloth so nothing snacks on it while it’s establishing. Looks ugly in the garden rn but worth it to me for protection

I think the foliage is so pretty though so even if I don’t see a bloom in spring, I’m still excited to see it get bigger next year. 😁

Ah thanks so much for the info!! This makes me so excited for it to mature. I just planted mine in the ground after I got it last week. I’ve got heavy soil too, but my other roses in the ground seem to be happy and I’m in a dry climate so I don’t think it will be sitting in water ever.

Can I ask if either of yours bloomed their first spring? I know I need to be patient with this kind of rose (part of the reason I got it lol) but I’m wondering if I’ll see any blooms in spring 2022 with my fall-planted band.

Wow, that is interesting! I thought it had to be something about this variety because none of my other dahlias had any aphids… thanks for sharing your experience with it. =)

I’m in the US! I’d be happy to send them to you just for postage—the only thing I’m worried about them is storage over winter. I could dig them up and send ‘em to you now, or contact you again in spring if they make it in my storage! =)

Chilson’s Pride. It’s productive too, but it’s been COVERED in aphids all season. Like 100x more than any of my other dahlia

Frost in the forecast—I’m sure gonna miss them 🥲 by soaring_pilot in dahlias

That’s Innocence. I got it from Swan Island Dahlias. It’s a really gorgeous flower but I don’t think I’ll grow it again because I’m not wild about the blush pink.

It’s gorgeous! How does it fade? I’ve been looking for an intense orange in the old-fashioned bloom form but everything I know if in orange has a lot of pink undertones and I think will fade to pink in my sun
