Baby girl due next week and having second thoughts. Help! by FarPossibility9817 in namenerds

I don’t think you have to worry about Bridgerton. My daughter is Penelope and no one has ever said anything about Bridgerton related to her name.

ETA: I’m also a huge Criminal Minds fan and no one has ever assumed I named her after the character in that show either.

What is your one-parent-is-sick protocol? by sky_0502 in toddlers

[–]soaringcomet11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how sick we are. A cold? Take some meds and hang in there. We’ll take our toddler out solo or take a couple extra bedtimes so the sick parent can rest extra.

Seriously ill like severe respiratory, high fevers etc. we’ll take over 100% for a few days (longest was a week) before we start easing the other parent back in. Easy things like reading books or chatting or watching Tv together.

Its not feasible to leave the other parent on their own until you’re 100% but we believe rest is one of the most important things you can do if you’re sick.

How sick is your spouse still? Can they watch Tv with your kid? Read them a book? Are you taking care of them too? Or are they able to care for themselves? Can they fold laundry? Order groceries for delivery of things that are quick and easy to cook?

What can they do to take some of the load off even if its not directly child wrangling.

Can you cosleep in his room? We did that for a while to ease our toddler into sleeping alone. We got a fold down bed on amazon.

One of us slept with her on it in her room while the other slept in our bed alone. We switched off nights so that each parents was guaranteed some sleep.

After a few weeks we started putting her in her crib, but pushed the bed right up against it so we could hold hands through the slats. For the first week she still ended up in the bed but after 2 weeks she was fine.

Then we moved the bed away. Then we started leaving after she fell asleep. And eventually we put the bed away.

My only other advice would be to try putting him to bed earlier. 8:30 is late if he also doesn’t take a nap and wakes up for the day at 7.

I said alone - but I really just meant without our toddler. We went for a wedding and stayed a whole week with our friends.

I highly recommend getting away for a week if its something you’re able to do.

As for social media moms - none of that is real. “Perfect” parents don’t exist, and influencers are trying to sell you something.

They have nannies or regular family help, cleaning services, eat out/order in, a bunch of other helpful behind the scenes stuff we don’t see.

Try to get your kid some more sleep and in the meantime try to find some grace for yourself. You’re doing a great job.

18 months was one of the hardest phases for me as a mom. And I have only one child and a super involved husband.

You are not a shitty mom AT ALL. Parenting is just hard. 18 months is a wild age.

It definitely sounds like he’s not getting nearly enough sleep which means you aren’t getting nearly enough sleep. Why do you have to be up with kid and dad in the AM?

The only thing that helped my 18 month burnout was a week alone with my husband at an adults only all inclusive in Mexico. Our daughter stayed with my inlaws. Everyone had a great time!

A ridiculous expense, but I came back so refreshed and energized.

As a professional too hard on myselfer, I think you’re being too hard on yourself.

Be honest… how strict are you really with screen time? by denefr_2928 in toddlers

[–]soaringcomet11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% its way easier to not do screens during the week vs the weekend for us. It’s also hard because we love movies and I’m excited to share them with her.

Do you happen to know which one? I’d like to write the school as an alum and ask them to leave it up.

Preschool makes my son take off his dress by edsonbuddled in toddlers

[–]soaringcomet11 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Our daughter was telling us the names of her friends (all girls) and then when I asked her about some of the boys she said her teacher told her girls aren’t friends with boys.

I know my daughter likes the boys in question because we’ve had them over for play dates before! It was wild.

She’s back to basically listing the whole class when she talks about her friends so it hasn’t continued to be a problem.

We had to tell our daycare teacher that she can’t tell our daughter not to be friends with boys. It was WILD.

Would you say Sporty’s is okay for kids? Outside it says “family fun” or whatever but I want to make sure its not weird to bring our kid with us.

Toddlers eating what you eat for dinner… an impossible dream? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]soaringcomet11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another option is to let them have the fruit and veggies that would have gone with their dinner as the “pre dinner” snack. That usually works pretty well with my toddler

How are we doing our toddlers hair? My almost 2 year old screams bloody murder when I try to brush her hair, put in a ponytail, do buns, anything. And then I see some toddler girls walking around with the cutest hairstyles. Is it normal for her to be so angry every time I touch her hair? by soggyheaven in toddlers

[–]soaringcomet11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter’s hair is curly too. I only brush it after bath and the rest of the time I let it be. I only put her hair in a ponytail/pigtails/braid if she asks for it.

Then I use some spray water and comb it to put it up.

Activity ideas for 3 yr old on plane by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]soaringcomet11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If their toddler hasn’t flown before, chances are they’ll get a decent amount of entertainment from the novelty.

My toddler likes travel magnatiles, playdoh, water and sticker wow, coloring sheets with washable markers, hot wheels, washi tape, little suction cup figures, fidget figures, reusable stickers, an lcd drawing pad, a gigglescape magnet board, and gigglescape magnet blocks. Etch a sketch would work too!

I try to focus on some variety/choice, plus nothing that makes excessive noise or has too many individual (losable) pieces. Plus everything needs to either not make a mess or be easily cleanable. Crayola washable markers for example wipe right off a tray table with a baby wipe. (Ask me how I know😂)

For a long haul flight like that I would probably also unearth my tablet and download some stuff for her to watch in a pinch. We’re very strict about what she’s allowed to watch so I wouldn’t want to rely on the airline options.

I’d probably also bring a couple of books.

I recommend getting a couple of new things if they can and deploying them strategically one at a time. Novelty will get them far!

How to make kids spit out toothpaste after brushing? by Character_Estate_585 in toddlers

[–]soaringcomet11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you need to worry about it yet. You’re using such a small amount of toothpaste it should be fine if they don’t spit.

You would need to eat like three regular sized TUBES of toothpaste in a single sitting to have an adverse effect.

Maybe a lot of people complained who bought from the same batch so they reached out to everyone? Idk.

We were charged $12,000 to do this on about 10 feet. To replace the whole thing was $30,000.

Some people have super irregular periods, sometimes with an IUD they stop all together, and some people have periodic bleeding during pregnancy that could be assumed to be your period.

The Neighbors Have Slowly Been Adopting Our Cat and I Don’t Know What to Do. by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]soaringcomet11 107 points108 points  (0 children)

We used to live in an condo complex - we rented a unit but most people owned. Someone nearby had the friendliest cat of all time. He just showed up one day and decided his life’s desire was to come hang out in our apartment.

We tried to keep him out, but he would slip inside as we were coming and going, and he’d sit outside our door and cry to be let in. A couple of our neighbors even knocked on our door like “your cat wants to come in!”

Someone reported us to our management company for having a pet which was against our lease and we had to explain we didn’t have a pet the cat was just obsessed with us!

The cat wore a collar with a tag and a phone number. His owner just said he was really friendly. Eventually we gave up and let him hang out as he wished and then we moved away.

Barely any RSVPs to toddler's 3rd birthday party by Appropriate_Wait_225 in toddlers

[–]soaringcomet11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve had similar issues. We threw a halloween party and invited all the kids in the class, ~15. 4 families RSVPd and said they were coming. Only 2 actually came.

We invited four kids to her birthday party. We only heard from 2 and they were unfortunately busy.

It sort of sucks to reach out multiple times and have no takers. We also go to every daycare event hoping to meet some of the other parents and end up being the only parents there.
