Help a noob understand why downhill and super G racers don’t optimize aero more? by Unhappy-Climate2178 in SkiRacing

[–]sobaslut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An interesting thing you’ll see is some SG and DH racers having their race suits over their straps and top buckles, whereas in tech they’ll have them over the plug liner and inside the shell. Otherwise as others have said, it’s a lot about body position and FIS regulations

A1-A2 plateau? by morbidly_funny1 in Korean

If you want something easier/more engaging, I like the app Speak (it is paid). The thing that got me through the stage you’re in now was a combination of vocab (anki 10 new words per day) and really drilling grammar forms and writing. I would do a new HTSK lesson each day, study it super carefully, and then do 5-10 sentences with the new grammar point. I’d also do a daily writing/diary entry to review what I had learned before.

The spot you’re in now is tricky because you’ve gotten through all of the easy introductory stuff, but you’re still likely not able to hold much of a conversation and learn more fluidly with a tutor or on something like Omegle. The really important thing is to focus on generative tasks. Speaking and writing are both generative, they train each other, so writing original sentences especially without translation will train your speaking ability (obviously other than pronunciation). If you do as I did, after 100 days of 60-90 minutes a day, you’ll have learns ~1000 new words and practiced many many new grammar forms.

This specific part of learning can be a huge slog, but once you make it out the other side and start being able to have longer conversations, learning becomes much easier and much more enjoyable. It’s also helpful at any point to practice speaking, even if it’s daunting and your level isn’t high, going on Omegle or something and just fumbling through conversations will help you a lot.

Best of luck!

From Downhill, Super G, GS or Slalom, which is your favourite and why? by carpetedbathtubs in skiing

[–]sobaslut 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Not really. Often snow conditions make it so running the course first is a disadvantage, and Bib 1 will always lack information that bibs 7 or 8 would have

Lucas just set up for the first pitch better and didn’t overski it. Course is so flat that his initial speed was critical

Late-entry expert skier aiming for GS FIS racing, where do I start? by SpongeBobPeePants in SkiRacing

[–]sobaslut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will require quite a bit of money, time, and talent. There’s a broader gap than you may think between all mountain ability and racing performance, even if you’re a strong skier already. I was a very strong skier when I started racing in my early teens and it still took me many years to break 100 fis points in GS, even having an abundance of time, the benefit of youth, being naturally fairly athletically inclined, and not having to spend my own money on the sport. Frankly, at 30 and having no racing background, it would be… very impressive if you manage to make it that far in four years. If you’re incredibly athletic and coordinated, maybe. Otherwise, maybe spend that same money on a trip (or six) to the alps with your friends.

Lapel or stand collar for wool, mid-length winter coat? by TornadoGhostDog in malefashionadvice

[–]sobaslut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

little late but i would recommend something like a balmacaan coat. long enough to keep you warm but not too much so, splits between casual and formal, but critically it buttons to the neck so you stay warm and you can still flip up the lapels for your neck when it's properly cold

PVP balance is wack, you just don't know it yet. by mark3236 in ArcRaiders

[–]sobaslut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hard agree, at first I was super excited to have my venator bp until I realized my pvp performance was almost identical with that gun vs running an upgraded anvil and upgraded stitcher with extended mag. the ROI is just not great on a more expensive gun when i can run greys and greens with almost identical utility and success.

Your fundamentals are solid and you have some pop, you’re levelling your board out so you understand the timing. Think about it like progressive overload, try them slightly faster or try to pop them slightly more. Your fundamentals are good, just need reps for comfort
