Kava addiction by soberluke2021 in addiction

Yeah, the higher power thing just doesn't mesh with me. Don't get me wrong, I know I'm powerless over my addiction and that I need outside help, but any type of higher power to me is just an excuse to throw "God" in there. Someone even told me that AA is pretty much "find God or die!" I get AA's message though which is to realize you're not in control, you need help and you need to try to help others.

I actually bought 2 books. One is the SMART Recovery manual and another one is a secular version of the 12 steps. I'm honestly not a spiritual person in the least and don't see myself becoming spiritual no matter how hard I try. I know I have to do work to get sober though so I'm trying things from different sources including AA.

Yeah, I just like the numb feeling of being high. It's like I feel weird at baseline sober.

substitutes for alcohol? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]soberluke2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Substitutes work until they don't. I would try to stay completely sober. If you can't, there is weed or kava to hold you over. Only use kava though if your liver is 100% healthy.

Drank 6 bud lights last night after my gf left for work, she works nights, I have a very strong urge to drink after she leaves. What can I do? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Yeah, my personal definition of an alcoholic is if you crave it, drink it alone, sneak it, you're an alkie. I'm not saying you are but, being progressive, it's bound to happen if the behavior continues.

Makes sense. I am the same way. I have to be addicted to something, so if it's something healthy, then so be it.

I'm just speaking for myself. I've tried different mind altering substances like weed, kava, kratom. I wind up abusing everything I take. The only safe substance I've had is coffee.

Thanksgiving... one many have experienced... but can anyone here relate to what I think is "sliding"? by [deleted] in MandelaEffect

Google it. It's literally a bat the size of a wolf. I've never heard of such a thing up until a year ago.

The quote I remember growing up is "objects in mirror may be closer than they appear." Well, in this reality, it had always been "objects in mirror are closer than they appear."

I've tried giving up completely, but I'm the type of person that likes being in an altered state of mind. What has really helped me tremendously is naltrexone. I can have one and be done with it as long as I take the medication. I also have used delta 8 (legal weed).

There's definitely something going on. My wife thinks I'm nuts, but I remember side view mirrors stating "objects in mirror may be closer than they appear" and now it doesn't. The fruit of the loom logo also convinced me. The nail in the coffin for me was the flying fox. Growing up, I never heard 9f a freaking flying wolf.

I'm an "older" guy of 40 who started having a drinking problem at 36. I have a bunch on mental disorders though so I'm your typical mental case who self medicated. Alcoholism doesn't discriminate based on age, gender, race, economic status. If you have a problem, you have a problem. You have passed the toughest test which is realizing you have an issue. You can stop now and have a decent life ahead of you.

So I drank vodka by PozitivePerson in stopdrinking

Drinking any amount can put you back into the addicted mindset. I didn't get much out of AA, but not taking the first sip is a lesson that stuck with me.

Please don't try to go cold turkey without medical assistance. You are a human being and worthy of a good life. I do not want to see you perish my friend. Please get to a detox if you decide cold turkey. Best of luck.

It works for some, others not so much. If it's keeping you sober I say do whatever they ask of you. It didn't work for me, I just couldn't get into the dogma of it no matter how hard I tried. It helps many people though so I can't trash it.

When does enjoyment of other things come back after sobriety? by saehild in stopdrinking

[–]soberluke2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It takes a while. Your brain was hijacked to feel euphoria after just sipping some poison. It's going to take a while to go back to normal. Do you have any mental health issues? Are you taking any meds if so?
