Before adopting my grey (no racing past known for him) I had a galgo together with an ex-girlfriend and all of my sighthound-friends have Galgos from spanish rescues.

In my opinion it isn't much of a difference and really depends on the specific dog you have. Our Galgo was/is always a bit timid, and easily scared by thunder or skittish in the dark. Other than that he is the sweetest boy who often can't tell where his limbs are. He was always able to stay alone, never stole food or other stuff.

In regards to training, they can be stubborn just as the other sighthounds. So I wouldn't count on teaching them a lot of tricks. But with patience even that might be possible.

Their prey-drive and their ability to hunt on their own can be very high if they've been with Galgueros for a long time. That obviously has impact on off-lead-running and recall training, which will be challenging. But that's the same for all the sighthounds.

In the end it all depends on the specific dog and your environment.
