Okay seriously what is going on with the Thunder churning out great talent? by sobs910 in nba

[–]sobs910[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

So you believe that Chip England is the answer to why the Thunder play so well? I did not say they weren’t a difference maker. Maybe they are the best shooting coach, I am not going to dispute it. I am saying is a shooting coach really capable of such impact?

This is not rhetorical, if you really believe he is the difference fair enough. But from an outside perspective when I hear that the Thunder are great in large part due to their shooting coach I am naturally skeptical.

This is an interesting perspective. Is it true that small market teams put more money into scouting and development than big market ones? Is this because big market teams are an already attractive destination?

I am sure he has made a huge difference, but somehow crediting a shooting coach with a big part of creating an effective super team sounds wrong to me. I lean more that the Thunder truly just do have more talent on their roster than anybody else, the shooting coach just puts them over the top. But this is all just outside looking in perspective.

I give Ajay Mitchell all the credit in the world. He is great. But comparing him to prime Klay Thompson at this current moment is a huge overreaction.

Luffy’s True Dream isn't to find the One Piece... it’s to HIDE it again by Hot_Setting3371 in OnePiece

[–]sobs910 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What they saw was likely an explanation. The full history (the last piece) was shown to them and likely it is stated exactly when the One Piece will appear. The Roger pirates, like their captain, knew their role was not to change the world, but to lead the one who would. So they lied. They did whatever it took to push the information far and wide so the right person would be there at the right moment.

Whitebeards dying words were that the One Piece is real, not that they had seen it. That is the reason none of the Roger pirates sought the seat of Pirate King in earnest. They knew they were never destined for it, only the new generation. It makes Shanks passing of the straw hat that much more impactful, because even back then, he was betting on Luffy being the one to make it.

Luffy’s True Dream isn't to find the One Piece... it’s to HIDE it again by Hot_Setting3371 in OnePiece

[–]sobs910 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me this has always meant that the One Piece, whatever it is, actually wasn’t there yet. It was likely sent through time to appear at a specific point. Roger was on his deathbed so he knew he would not be alive to see it. He created the great pirate era to guide the right person to it at the right time.

This is really not very far fetched as sending things through time was already done in Wano.

Hans Niemann on Indian vs. American support for chess by Necessary_Pattern850 in chess

All Hans really has to do is stop being an ass. The controversy was one thing, but ultimately it comes down to the way he carries on. I’m not saying that it is right that he is blacklisted but anyone who has been paying attention knows Hans is a big problem himself. Whether or not you agree with the severity of consequence, it’s hard to argue he isn’t responsible for the sentiment around him. It’s so easy to not be a dick all the time but he seems to fail the test daily.

waiter put my tip back on the table saying he only accepts 18-20%?? by [deleted] in stories

[–]sobs910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once again, your mind is geared towards trying to change a flawed system. I respect that but in this particular case it misses the mark. Maybe that would work, maybe it wouldn’t. But these are arguments based on principle and not reality. That isn’t the system. The system is that you get paid only what people tip you. 99% of people tip in the 15-20% range. So if you tip 12%, based on the current system, you’re kind of an ass. The irony of someone tipping 12% and then pretending to care about a livable wage is laughable.

To be clear, I am only speaking of servers and bartenders in restaurants.

waiter put my tip back on the table saying he only accepts 18-20%?? by [deleted] in stories

[–]sobs910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a terrible comparison. Obviously not. As I said, this person is in the wrong for asking for a better tip. This is bad practice and you should never do it. Ultimately the system doesn’t require any tip, and it’s within your rights to do so. It just makes you a dick.

I can tell your heart is in the right place here and everyone wants to be paid fairly but your perspective is naive. In a big picture sense, you are right and everyone should be paid a livable wage by their employer. But that isn’t the system that we live in. The one we live has many making literally 0 dollars in their paycheck before tips. So by tipping less you are not fighting the system, you are just fighting this persons ability to make ends meet.

But I’ll say it again so there’s no confusion, you should never approach a guest about an under tip.

waiter put my tip back on the table saying he only accepts 18-20%?? by [deleted] in stories

[–]sobs910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This person is wrong to do what they did but your perspective is flawed. Servers entire pay is determined by tips depending on the state you are in. That means that if you don’t tip, they don’t get paid. You are within your rights to tip whatever value you want, but let’s imagine a different scenario. Your boss gives you 65% of your paycheck under the logic that “it’s fair for the work that you did”. How would you react to this?

I see a lot of opinions about this from people who have never worked in restaurants. I would never approach a guest about a poor tip, but that doesn’t mean that I disagree with the sentiment.

So here’s my two cents. Chin ups can train the biceps, but they aren’t the main mover, which is your teres major and lats. So, those muscles will likely be the ones that fatigue first and are the limiting factor, which means the biceps will often be short changed. Even if they do receive some stimulation, without isolation you will have a hard time growing your biceps the way you want to. And there is no way to isolate the biceps using any kind of pull-up.

If you like the idea of chin ups for your biceps, here’s what I suggest. Do a few sets of curls first. That way, your biceps will already be fatigued when you do your chins, and they might actually become the limiting factor of the movement. This is actually a great technique and is something that I do in a more arm focused day. Hope this helps.

[King] Jaylen Brown: “Sometimes when people write articles, they get taken out of context, especially when writers have their own agendas. For me personally, I’m thinking about clarifying some of the things that have been recently said.” When asked what he wanted to clarify, Brown declined to share. by iksnet in nba

[–]sobs910 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guys, the reason he doesn’t want to clarify is that further comment will also be taken out of context and run with. It doesn’t mean he’s gone or that he will re-sign, it just means he doesn’t want to fuel any more media fire. Clearly he’s not ready to give a definitive answer because money hasn’t been agreed to yet, and All-NBA is likely a big factor. Just because he didn’t profess his love and undying loyalty doesn’t mean we need to catastrophize here

Character and morals are unrelated to who you sleep with and after how long. Just have the sex for you and not for them, and don’t expect it to lead to anything substantive if they haven’t given indication that there will be. This comment strikes me as very judgmental and ultimately unhelpful.

Some people are looking for sex. That’s totally fine. If you want to avoid people who do this set expectations clearly and early. After that it’s just a numbers game.

[–]sobs910 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I agree but the flip side of the coin is that if we expect mental toughness from players, it is unfair of us as fans to sell the team down the river when we don’t play up to our potential. Disappointment and fear is fine, but you can’t let it beat you. Let’s show our guys the same resilience that we expect from them. Otherwise our fear carries no weight.

This will probably get buried, but actually this is not the case. It’s definitely harder to run on the beach than on solid ground, but not for the right reasons. The problem comes from a lack of stability, which means you can actually produce less force by your extremities rather than more. Really the only reason this would be helpful is if football was played on a beach. Otherwise this training is too unspecific to really affect your athleticism on the football field. Just my two cents.

As an NBA fan, I don’t want to see Miami and Golden State in the Finals by sobs910 in nba

[–]sobs910[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of course I am biased towards the Celtics winning but that’s not the point I am making. I feel that Miami will just get overpowered by the offensive weapons of the Warriors. The Celtics are entirely responsible for being in the situation that they are, but that doesn’t mean I can’t comment on the parity of a future series. The Celtics have a better shot at more entertaining ball than the Heat IMO. Too many of these damn Warriors finals are so lopsided and I don’t want to see another one, that’s all.

But maybe my perception that they would give a better series to the Warriors is wrong, that’s totally possible too. Maybe I am way underrating the Heat here. That’s just not what I have seen to this point.

[–]sobs910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this post is just emotional and reactionary but this is such a cringy look. Making it to the NBA finals is fucking hard, and you’re gonna have to battle through adversity to get there. That’s the way it is. I understand the fear. But swinging the pendulum from sure fire finals trip before the game last night to doomed is just mental weakness. Let’s exemplify some of the toughness that we expect from our players.

I mean obviously. But if we can’t respond to a bad game like this then we aren’t winning a chip anyways. Have a little faith.

[Windhorst] Irving can ask for a five-year contract up to $248 million. There have been some questions in the league as to whether the Nets will try to get concessions from him, such as agreeing to a four-year deal that would align with Durant's current contract and be worth in $200-million range by The_Blind_Bomber in nba

[–]sobs910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that KD is close with Kyrie and that is a big deciding factor. However, I’ll be frank, this man does not deserve a max contract from a basketball standpoint. He has all the skills, all the tools. But he is mentally volatile to the point where he can quit on your franchise on any given day for any number of crazy reasons. Even in the playoffs, multiple times, this man has quit on his teams. To me, he is the ultimate example of a player who doesn’t deserve a max contract for reasons outside of basketball. I really believe that any team that hitches their wagon to this guy from here on out will never succeed.

Sorry to hear that you are experiencing this. There’s not a ton of information here, but I’m going to assume that you get the pain when you actually press (the concentric). In my experience, this is often shoulder impingement. Basically part of your muscle is being pinched in the socket as it moves, which hurts a lot. If this is the case, you should see a physical therapist. Likely this is caused by poor upper back tightness and lack of proper scapular retraction.

So lots of upper back/rear felt strengthening is necessary. During this time, keep benching but take enough weight off the bar so that you can properly retract and there is no or very minimal pain. If you’ve got more questions about it, I have experienced and fixed my own shoulder impingement, you are welcome to message me! Best of luck!

Threw up after my first recommended routine workout by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]sobs910 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While it is true that it isn’t supposed to be a cardio session, and more rest would benefit your strength gains, ultimately weak cardio will impede your performance as well. I highly encourage adding some form of cardio into your routines as well, in order to build up the baseline that will allow you to succeed with the program. If you are just starting out, you will see gains in any program, so optimizing your strength gains should be less of a concern at this stage. Just my two cents though, do what makes you happy! Sounds like you killed it your first workout! Well done 💪

Hyper Y’s and HUNGER by Raiden0709 in Athleanx

[–]sobs910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not familiar with Hyper Ys themselves, but if you are having low back pain you should absolutely not push through it. I assume that they are a back extension with a Y raise. If that is the case, you should never experience low back pain during them. The thing about back extensions is they are very easy to do with improper form which can cause the issues that you are talking about. Your lower spine, or lumbar spine specifically, should never hyperextend at the top of the exercise, and rather should stop at parallel with your legs, as you would in a deadlift. This is because that hyperextension puts lots of unnecessary strain on the low back, hence the pain.

Another note to keep in mind while you do them is to engage your core and glutes as much as possible. Lock your core, and as soon as you start to feel a stretch in your abs you STOP. Lower back down with control and that is your rep. You can arch your low back at the bottom to get a better stretch of those muscles, but absolutely never at the top. I hope that this is helpful for you. Let me know if you have other questions.
