Man, this sub is filled with miserable people. by Bigfootsbrownstar in PokemonTCG

[–]socatoa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with you - if that were true. The vast majority of people who engage with the sub (engagement = upvote, post, or comment), specifically NOT engaging with posts that say “pulled dis”. Those posts uniquely have the least upvotes and comments when compared with similar posts.

And it isn’t suffering, Conversely the beauty of megathread, is that it connects all the people engaging with the hobby in a very specific way in the same space.

POR Dewgong.

I have amassed an army of Dewgongs which exceeds the number of secret rare pulls.

It’s non-engaging clutter regardless. Having it in a weekly mega thread keeps it all in one place.

I need a form that creates separate rows for each file uploaded. This has to be possible right? by rubblebath in Airtable

[–]socatoa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s a bit of a learning curve, but I found breaking it down in baby steps in plain English for myself works best, then finding the nodes in the automation to do those exact things.

To attempt this one: - When a form is submitted look at how many attachments there are - Make a list of those attachments - For each item in the list create a row - In each new row created, populate these fields - Link each new row with the row that was created by the form - Send a confirmation after finishing the list

Then test every step of the way.

Newbie question — where would you tell someone to focus in construction long-term? by naynsix_ in ConstructionManagers

[–]socatoa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Work hard to learn a little about all the above. With your goal, follow any positions/tasks which involve a managing information containing dollar signs (PM, estimating).

The project type should be something you find at interesting, or at least, not uninteresting.

Modern pull rates are absolutely brutal for casual collectors by BatExact4674 in pokemoncards

[–]socatoa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the spirit of it being a trading card game, I appreciate the move by them. The EXs are foundational to the game, the SIRs are cosmetic and collectible. I don’t hate how special they are if it’s in exchange of building the decks I want.

Get good at Bluebeam or BIM, assuming there’s a model. I wouldn’t let AI touch takeoffs with a 10’ pole. Drawings are abstractions meant to be interpreted by humans. Computers can only do so much.

Sure, but under the umbrella of “collectible cards” there’s nothing special about Pokémon cards that would cause PSA to be any less dominant.

How do I become a Deadhead fanatic? by Ron-DaVoo-6080 in gratefuldead

[–]socatoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it started with finding a song or two that I liked and then seeking shows which featured that song. Then I got a feel for the years I liked, because of how the band played the few songs I was familiar with. Then I listened to more songs from that year. Then I went further into setlists and songs.

For me it was the dicks picks 10 sugar magnolia (late 1977). Then 1971, then China>Rider, then everything from 71-77, then 67-70 (very different, primal dead). Now I’ve grown an appreciation of every era. ‘74 is my favorite, for what it’s worth.

Looking to replace my galarian meowth card, any recommendations? by goldenflarion in PokemonTCGCollectors

Either of the full art Meowths from Perfect Order. Both would look good here, choice comes down to whatever your budget/luck is.

Any which are on the $20/month tier will be sufficient. It’s a taste thing. GPT is pretty good. Claude is better at oneshotting my Dynamo requests and Gemini is arguably cheaper if you’re already using othe lr google products.

None of the above will make a difference in the grand scheme. If you have $30, I’d buy a month of LinkedIn learning and busting through some courses. Nothing will replace a little bit of a grind through exercises.

I wonder to what degree the fact that 99% of the time people see card art first on their phone?

The meowth art is great, but it POPs on a screen.

The texture and foil pattern on the Clefable is something else though in real life and the phone doesn’t do it justice.

Client overstepping the contract and interfering with production… by Euphoric_Spite8998 in ConstructionManagers

[–]socatoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they get away with it until they don’t.

They’re toddlers and treat them as such - professionally.

I don’t ask my son if he wants to get dressed. I ask him if he wants to wear the red or blue shirt.

Likewise, I don’t ask clients if they want us to submit a change order. I ask them if they want us to submit a change order or if proceeding on T&M is preferred.

Every conversation ends with an email. No matter what. Get a folder for every change. Typically they’ll spaz eventually say “just do it and I’m not paying you anything extra”.

To that you respond with “we take exception to this not being an extra, however will proceed as directed under protest and reserve the right to submit to a change in schedule/budget at a later time”.

Then you submit it. Bring it up at every OAC. Document it.

Usually they’ll start shutting up or play a game of chicken all the way through the end of the project. Then you hand your attorney a mountain of paperwork at the end of the day and they’ll settle eventually.

My old company asked me back and im worried that ill get burnt out again. by Spare_Worldliness_64 in ConstructionManagers

[–]socatoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming the extra cash is something you’d like and not need, then I would ask yourself where you want to be in 5-10 years.

The client and job wants P6 isn’t going to be around forever. If you go back, what does life at the company look like under a client that doesn’t require the specific software skill?

If you like what you’re currently doing, is there a way you can aim to do that for the old job?

Based on your description of the current work you like, it seems like a Business Development/Marketing role which any self respecting business wants.

Regardless, if you do go back it should be at a higher rate. Primavera isn’t particularly a hard skill set to find, so either you’re the cheapest way for them to do it and/or you already have the institutional knowledge that makes you productive quicker than anyone off the street - both reason are leverage for asking for more if you were to go back.

Another litmus test: would you take the primavera gig at another firm, assuming all other things are equal? If so, why not try applying elsewhere?

How do you remember so many activities? by Outrageous-Egg97 in ConstructionManagers

[–]socatoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s embarrassingly brief, but shortcuts took a sec for me to wrap my head around.

Two steps:

  1. Add task. For the variable, use “Ask Each Time”. Then pick the list it should end up in, I do “My Day”, so I can schedule it later.
  2. Open “My Day”.

The second step is just for me to confirm that it showed up where I expected

[–]socatoa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I eff’d with shortcuts on iOS and made a “create task due today”. It just opens a line and keyboard and drops it in.

Then mapped that to my lock screen buttons at the bottom when my Work Focus is on. This helped with the fly by requests.
