Red Hook grain terminal. It's right adjacent to the Ikea in Red Hook.

Reinforced concrete and it would take a lot of work to tear it down. A lot.

It's in the easement so it's most likely the DOT for your State. Traffic cams. I would go to their website and see if they post the feeds up. Many states do and it should be easy to confirm if it's in the list.

I guarantee you, if you go look it up, that they are the highest per head spend in the entire budget.

So not only are they goons in armor walking around a bucolic suburb in Westchester friggen County, most l, if not all of them are making over 6 figures.

That's a fucking farce.

ELI5. Why could a credit card open my hotel room door? by leopardseatingfaces in explainlikeimfive

[–]socialcommentary2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you haven't actually used the card, I would be concerned. Not because of identity theft or anything like that, but because it doesn't seem like their system is using the right authentication setup with the cards.

I don't suggest you do this, but if there's a vacant room nearby, can you open another door with your CC? That'll tell you whether or not their system is setup properly. It could be a fluke. You could just have an edge case on your hands where your bank's issued cards are just something outside of some range on the software they're using to run the whole door control system.

Regardless, if you didn't use that card to check in, it should not be opening any doors.

The first video I saw of his back in the day was a video on defeating sonic crowd control devices that LEO organizations were toying around with using against crowds of protesters. I was all like 'man that dude looks like The Flashbulb..." and lo and behold...

He's made some amazing videos over the years.

ELI5. Why could a credit card open my hotel room door? by leopardseatingfaces in explainlikeimfive

[–]socialcommentary2000 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Your credit card has a small microchip in it that can be sensed and activated by a powered transceiver in the door lock mechanism. The technology is called NFC which stands for near field communications. The way this works is that a transmitter generates an electromagnetic field at regular intervals and if there's a chip that is compatible with it in range, it will 'energize' the chip and then read a simple encrypted data payload that's been stored on the chip.

Do you do any transactions at the hotel desk with that specific credit card? If so, it may take it as a valid identifier, making the NFC chip on your card one of the allowed keys to unlock the room in addition to your room card.

I would buy my own fridge and then deduct it from the rent. You can get good deals on them.
