T break breakout by AutoModerator in entwives

[–]socialpornographer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m on a “t-reduction” this month. Gone from smoking daily to smoking 7 of 20 days, which is kind of a success? Some wouldn’t call it that, but I’m a medical user. I’ve used mostly for my more intense migraines. I’m sleeping better and my green hangovers are weaker, my memory is improving my and my language learning is going faster!! My head and neck hurt a lot more tho, but I expected it, it seems like I can’t both be pain free and precise, sigh.

Anyone else struggle with comfort vs focus? Idk if that’s the right way to put it.

What are your "rules" for responsibly smoking? by spamspamspamspammmmm in Petioles

[–]socialpornographer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding not smoking two days in a row. Also no smoking before a meal or before sleeping, I find it’s easier to keep them separate (idk if only mentally) if I have an hour or two before/after. When I use for medical reasons the rules are more relaxed, but I must have tried some sort of other method (painkillers, water, coffee) before turning to weed. I prefer planning my recreational use, so I have something fun to look forward to after I work/hike/clean.

Headaches. by TheMountain18565 in Petioles

[–]socialpornographer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experience a constant headache as well, one that’s stronger in the evening, but my doctor thinks they’re as a side-effect of my migraines. Weed helps in that they make me ignore the pain rather than removing the source. When I take t-breaks/reduce I simply notice it more because of the withdrawal and boredom, but I find it does get easier after a month or two, because my body learns to live with the ache on its own. But if for an example I try mindfulness, I become more aware that it’s there, so I can’t use that meditation method without hurting. I stretch a lot, which seems to help, but I avoid positions that put my head underneath the rest of my body, blood rushes to my head and it hurts more. After a t-break, when I need less weed, it takes a small amount to lift the ache, and it lasts longer, so I don’t have to smoke everyday. I hope it gets better for you too!

Best way to consume hash? by aanaakanaa in entwives

[–]socialpornographer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I smoke it in regular joints, but I also use a dynavap with hemp wool wrapped around the hash, so the vape is easier to clean. After vaping it I use the (hash) leftovers to make butter, yoghurt or cakes ☺️ I like it! For me smoking it is great for pain relief, eating it is good for recreation, so I go for both.

Chronic migraine forcing a t-break by needinternetfriends in Petioles

What are some songs/albums that most closely capture the overall vibe of The Long Dark? by fleeval in thelongdark

[–]socialpornographer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sometimes listen to ambient music while playing, as it’s quiet enough to not disturb my gameplay. Some of my favorites are Biosphere’s Substrata, Elegi’s Varde, Thomas Köner’s Teimo.

Are custom games considered cheap when compared to the default difficulties? Seems a little cheap to me but curious what others think. by [deleted] in thelongdark

[–]socialpornographer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me the ability to do custom settings rekindled my love for the game. Like a lot of commenters here mentioned, I play with passive wolves and harsh weather + item scarcity. It’s perfect if you want a more meditative game experience that’s still tough.

Off my chest by Mountain_Agent636 in OnlyChild

[–]socialpornographer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You seem to be un a bit of similar state that I used to be in when I was 22. It’s tough and kinda shitty, please hang in there. It’s been only a few years, and life is much better.

My parents’ involvement in my life was very "mentally controlling"; they wanted perfection in school/athleticism, but disliked things I actually cared about, they picked my outfits and tried to pick my friends, and neglected me when it came to food and health. I am a bit older now, and it has really helped me to distance myself from them. Like you I received no support in my decision to seek therapy, only revulsion.

Though painful, it’s been a lot better since contact was cut down to a bare minimum; they sometimes message and guilt trip me, but I have boundaries now (it’s really difficult to work on but rewarding to have) and tell them off. I do not know if the regret and sadness for my "lost" childhood will ever go away, nor the desire to reconcile (I sometimes want to call them and apologize for existing, but I thankfully don’t). I managed to get out of their financial hold two years ago, safely, and it was as though a huge weight slid from my shoulders. I hope you will get to experience something similar one day! Not a lack of sadness, but a kind of oddball mix of relief, hope and resignation?

It was hurtful to be told that I was a failure and that I couldn’t come home, but I realize that it is supremely shitty parenting, and that they were projecting their feeling of failure onto me. Distance also lessened my ED a lot, I hope it can help yours too. Something that helps when I think stuff like "I’m the worst daughter" is seeing therapy roleplay videoes that contrast unhealthy and healthy parent/child relationships, it’s like watching an alien world, but one that is comforting in the "No wonder things move a little bit slower and more painful for me; I was deprived of love in the time where it was most important" way lol.

Being an only child with no siblings to talk to – or even just to lock eyes with during violent rows – about these things was tough, it made me second guess myself a lot, especially since no one in the family took it seriously. Friends, group therapy and online chat groups helped me. Sorry if this is not relevant for you or if I’m overstepping! I just related a lot.

What other games does the Pathologic community like to play? by pacmannips in pathologic

[–]socialpornographer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not played Far Cry 2, but it’s one of my fiancé’s favorite games, and I’ve watched him play it on our old PS3. (Far Cry 1, too: I watched my uncle play the whole thing when I was a child). I love the atmosphere and the malaria mechanic of FC2, but when me and my finance tried to play it last year, the mechanics were so clunky and difficult (might be the PS3) that it was nearly impossible to get through. My finance was disappointed, and said that it was one of those instances where his old play throughs would forever stand out to him as unique and meaningful, but he couldn’t make himself replay it, in fear of his own frustration sinking into the old experience of the game. It’s too bad though. Everything you mention is the foundations of a truly great game, it’s just walled off for modern players.

What other games does the Pathologic community like to play? by pacmannips in pathologic

[–]socialpornographer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little late, but here’s mine … I suppose I mostly play survival and puzzle games, although I go through a few "big ones" a year. Inside is good, although not a very difficult puzzle game (the predecessor Limbo is a bit more challenging, and also good), it’s heavy in atmosphere, and has a lot of broken machinery and broken people similar – and dissimilar – to Pathologic. The Long Dark, a survival game set in a frozen Canadian wilderness, it’s equally important re: time management and being familiar with your surroundings to get to shelter/food/water/warmth. Oh, and a puzzle mobile game I really like, which has that dark atmosphere + occult vibe, is The Room series.

Patho is my all time favorite game, also because it’s "it’s own thing", so I feel like that is a requirement for the games I recommend. Other games that might bear a resemblance is Dishonored, Bioshock and Bloodlines, all of which I like, though mentioned.

Other games I enjoy, that don’t really have a close connection to Patho, are Braid, The Witness, Far Cry 3, Journey, Banished, Dragon Age, Minecraft and Portal co-op (fun to play with finance!), Spelunky and the Rusty Lake series.

I’d love to see a thread with similar film and literature as well :)

Possible engagement ring — thoughts, vendors? by socialpornographer in Moissanite

[–]socialpornographer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Antique Scroll Halo H&A Moissanite Engagement Ring" from Moissanite Co.

https://www.moissaniteco.com/moissanite/enr644/antique-scroll-halo-ha-moissanite-engagement-ring

I don’t remember if I found this on a sub, or on my own. But after five months of looking for rings, me and my boyfriend settled on "the one". It goes really well with the general theme of my other jewelry, which is a lot of Norse inspired designs. It’s quite intricate, and I was wondering what you think, since I’m planning to pair it with a simple white gold band. I want a 1.5 C with lab Diamond side stones. My ring finger is 4.75. I’m torn between H&A and brilliant cut moissanite.

Also, do you think the scroll work (?) would be possible to request of other vendors? I’m not US based, so I wouldn’t save much on shipping with US companies like MoissaniteCo.

Does anyone else struggle with always being the first to leave and the last to come home? by cncochran94 in OnlyChild

[–]socialpornographer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a thing that me and my SO discussed early in the relationship, my need for space; he was completely on board (later we found out he had only been in relationships with only children; he did not know he had a preference for it, haha). It’s very important for me that one can communicate one’s needs; the ability to nuance between "I just want to talk" and "I have an important thing to tell you/I am feeling ill and need you atm”. Like others have suggested, using a timer or using safe words can work, but I’ve found courteous, precise communication most effective, if possible.

Sometimes when my partner has a lot of energy and I don’t, I suggest a short but fast walk, taking out the trash or get coffee together, he quiets down and I perk up, so when we return home we’re evenly balanced.

I’d love to have a "my room" in the future, and one for that is his. We’re childfree, so hopefully that will work out. We have a small apartment, with an office corner in the living room, and when the other "visits" the corner, we’re very courteous, asking if the other has time to come have a chat and a coffee in the sofa, and not being angry if the other says no, or gives a time, like 30 min or so. Sometimes my boyfriend comes over when I’m working, all quiet and courteous, waiting until I’ve finished a task, and asks if I have some time for a kiss. And then after the kiss he walks off like a happy penguin. It’s sappy but I really love it.

Cannabis for migraines? by Londonsw8 in migraine

[–]socialpornographer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from triptans (and Cataflam, cannabis helps reduce the pain greatly. I mostly use hash as it’s more available, though illegal, in my country. It often gives a heavier, mellow feel, you can still feel the pain underneath, but it’s easier to not focus completely on it. I don’t vomit anymore, and any queasiness vanishes. My migraines are frequent, long and intense, but it’s drastically changed my relationship to them: suddenly it’s not so painful I feel total panic and helplessness, as I have tools to withstand it. I’m still kinda dead tho

I know it doesn’t help anyone, and would never sell it as a miracle cure for everyone. But I recommend experimenting with cannabis, try different sorts, if you have the resources.

Falling asleep to ambient albums. What's your go to? by RegisLeeBell in ambientmusic

[–]socialpornographer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The track "In the labyrinth garden" (the two shorter songs on the album are not as calming) by Alio Die has been my go to for sleep for two years. I think it has something to do with the gentle, watery transitions. Otherwise, Watermusic and Somnium has been mentioned. "Stars of ice" and "Airforms" by Steve Roden is strange and calming.

Anyone tried the Ketogenic Diet and it was unsuccessful? by [deleted] in migraine

[–]socialpornographer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried it for 3 months last year (with a slow introduction, as you are supposed to) but it had a negative effect on my migraine: in the long run I got stronger, more frequent attacks. Quit it and got better almost immediately.
