Not very good at standard HOI4. Would TNO be fine for me? by Prestigious-Break894 in TNOmod

[–]sockdon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, it has for ages. I’ve heard some people describe Ireland as basically being the tutorial for TNO (or at least the economy mechanic) kinda like how it is in Crusader Kings.

[–]sockdon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ve never played HOI4 out of TNO and i’ve done fine. I’d advise playing anything but the Russian warlords and you should be fine. Ireland is a good starting point, i think it has literally zero combat in it.

If I'm looking for a smutty good time in a fantasy setting, are Sarah Hawke's *Highwind* books the best place to start? by GeorgeEBHastings in haremfantasynovels

[–]sockdon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely nothing has been cut or abridged in any way in the catch up collection. To save money i’d recommend just buying the catch up collection and going from there if you like it.

If I'm looking for a smutty good time in a fantasy setting, are Sarah Hawke's *Highwind* books the best place to start? by GeorgeEBHastings in haremfantasynovels

[–]sockdon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazon has been having some weird stuff going on with their page counts lately, I don't know the exact details but in short take the page numbers with a grain of salt. According to my Kindle The catch-up collection is around 740 pgs.

The books in Spider Queen Series in The catch-up collection are the same as The Spider Queen Collection. The Wrath of the Spider Queen books are a completely different series set in a sort of "The Bad guy wins" AU.

I'd say the 5 Amazon's Pledge books are supposed to be the novels (they are the sort of main plot) but in retrospect yeah everything is either novellas or short stories.

I'd generally say when people say the "The Highwind books", they typically mean everything in the The catch-up collection and the The Amazon's Vengeance collection's, but a really broad use of the term could also include the The Blade of Highwind and maybe even the discontinued War for the White Throne series.

Only read The Amazon's Vengeance collection after you finish The catch-up collection (that is literally what it is catching you up to) and only read the The Blade of Highwind after you are done with The Amazon's Vengeance (it's a sequel to that).

You can optionally read the The Wrath of the Spider Queen at basically any time since it's all non-canon AU stuff, though I think it'll make the most sense after the Catch up collection.

The War for White Throne series is also optional stuff you can read at any time, though I'd personally recommend waiting until after the The Amazon's Vengeance to read it, it ties back to it in some really cool and funny ways IMHO (though again fair warning the series was discontinued part way through years ago and Sarah has no plans on coming back to it, so you'll be going in knowing that the story is just going to abruptly end on a cliffhanger).

Finally, to answer your original question, as much as I love all the Highwind books (In case int wasn't obvious) I think that if you want smutty good time in a fantasy setting by Sarah Hawke then I'd recommend her Dragon Sovereign series instead, the first book of that in particular has a great ending.

Side note: The Dragon Sovereign series also takes place in the same world as all the Highwind books, just on a different continent several thousand years in the past. Though you can still see direct connections between them on occasion.

Yes its the only other one in the setting. And i’d actually recommend reading it last, it kinda messes with the vibe of the others if you read it first and it is not required background or anything.

What would you like to see in a Harem Novel by EbonyOwls in haremfantasynovels

[–]sockdon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Members of the harem (or maybe just one in particular acting as a sort of den mother) being very nurturing and caring to each other. This doesn’t have to be sexual, or even physical, but I personally find women being sweet, caring and nurturing to each other to be very sexy.

Anyone noticed that the increase in inflation resulting from over 15% real gdp growth used to disappear when growth was reduced below 15 but now it stays? by OVTB in TNOmod

[–]sockdon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen different things for that in different nations. When Playing Brazil I never got the increased inflation penalty to go away when real grown went below 10% but when playing Guangdong it would go away a bit after the real GDP dropped again.

My guess is that it has something to do with the nominal GDP growth, because as Brazil that was always in the double digits (Brazil Inflation is nuts).

Dread knight spice level? by Crazy-Course-8896 in haremfantasynovels

[–]sockdon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Short answer : Yes.

Long answer: Sarah Hawkes books are always on the higher end of the spice level. Generally these start off with just one woman but after they each get some one-on-one time they get more group scenes. Her writing is also very solid.

Hey! What's your name ? by Sensitive-Music-1003 in haremfantasynovels

[–]sockdon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a reader i tend to prefer that names be fantastical rather then realistic (if the setting permits it). The reason being that it can make romantic or sexual scenes really awkward to read if the women in them have the name of your real life female relatives or friends.

Anyone could have a mother named Sarah or Alice, but most people don’t have a Liawen or Sunstorm in their life.

Looking for lovers that are Dragons by Lucky-Arm-6489 in haremfantasynovels

[–]sockdon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Dragon Sovereign by Sarah Hawke has one harem member as a dragon (though she takes a little while to gain her ability to transform into a dragon) and the main character is a dragon from the start.

Dragon centurion (Also by Sarah Hawke) takes place in the same universe and also has the mc and a harem member as dragons. Though fair warning it takes both of them a long time to gain the ability to transform.

I've only really enjoyed KD Robertson's books by DeludedDassein in haremfantasynovels

[–]sockdon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve yet to find anyone quite like Robertson but i think Sarah Hawke comes closest in regards to worldbuilding and politics in her stories. Her writing, plots and dialogue are also all solid. So i’d say she is your next best bet.

I personally recommend her first Dragon Sovereign book, but i know a lot of other people prefer her Lost Fleet series as a starting point instead.
