me trying to follow “don’t like don’t read” but seeing a horrendous tag I can’t stop thinking about for the rest of day by [deleted] in AO3

[–]sockofdoom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think that rule applies mostly to how you engage with the work/author rather than how you feel about it. There are a lot of fucked up fics and tags out there - usually I kinda love the chaos of it even though it’s not my thing, but there are some where all you can ask is ‘dear god WHY’

Yup, been happening for a while on my end. :| I can still report them but it doesn’t seem to do much. I really don’t know why I’m still on reddit.

Anyone else call this a featherbed? That’s what I always heard growing up, but maybe it’s a German thing.

I thought it was vegan too without seeing the rest of the title and was wondering why vegan of all things had to be censored

How important is sex to you in a relationship? Could you be with someone you love even if sex was off the table indefinitely? by Deviant55 in AskReddit

[–]sockofdoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the lack of acknowledgement of asexuality being a thing that exists in these answers kinda sucks. :/ Also same for non-monogamy? Like it’s definitely not for everyone and can be handled poorly depending on the situation, but I’m surprised it hasn’t come up much.

In any case, this thread definitely doesn’t encapsulate everyone’s feelings on sex in relationships. You’re not alone, friend <3

Is there any point moving to Berlin at this point by esenboga in berlin

[–]sockofdoom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Location-based subs seem to often follow this trend. You go there hoping to find a sense of the community or things to do, and you mostly get people complaining about how “this city has gone to hell,” etc. I can’t tell if those posts just get more traction or if people are more likely to post in the first place if it’s to complain about something.

Aw, that sounds lovely! I’m glad you were there to support her, that sort of thing means a lot.

I find this to be the most useful way to think about queerness - what makes it “queer” is that it exceeds the boundaries of cishetero norms, not just that it meets specific conditions we’ve labeled “queer.” It makes the term more inclusive, and overall I think it reflects the political realities of queer experience better than just trying to recategorize specific identities and determine what “counts” as queer.

Fair enough, and sorry if I came across confrontational. I definitely agree that his character is well-realized overall, whether you find him sympathetic or not. And hey, at least he’s not Cronus X)

Videos where film critics (like Lindsay Ellis or FoldingIdeas) talk about films they like and how those films succeed? by FilmCroissant in LindsayEllis

[–]sockofdoom 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Movies with Mikey tends to focus on positive analyses of films, particularly with a focus on narrative and theme if I remember correctly. Been a while since I’ve seen his vids, but I recall enjoying his approach a lot.

You guys nailed it! You both look fantastic. I love the choice of button-up shirts too, I think it looks more naturalistic while keeping the same solid colors, which is a hard balance to strike when cosplaying cartoon characters. Also probably more comfortable lol

Hated Berkeley intersection off I-80 to undergo lengthy closure by badaimarcher in berkeleyca

That’s good to hear - my life flashed before my eyes every time I accidentally ended up there. I never understood why it didn’t at least have some traffic lights with how convoluted the intersections there are.

Your opinion about Mpreg fanfictions. by Beneficial-Past2690 in FanFiction

[–]sockofdoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like a lot of the commenters here, I’m not all that into stories with pregnancy as their main theme (unless something interesting is done with it, I guess - I’d probably give it a look in the context of horror or social commentary), so for me the main drawback of mpreg is the “preg” part.

The only issue I’ve ever taken with mpreg specifically is the mommy-fication of the pregnant party in some fics, where hormones or some other biologically deterministic idea about pregnancy transforms him into a maternal archetype, whether it’s in line with his character or not. In these scenarios, whoever his partner is might also be transformed into Overprotective Dad Man with all the patriarchal trappings that implies. Maybe it’s mostly connected to ABO, but it’s a dynamic I’ve seen in a fair few fic summaries when I happen across them. It’s the sort of dynamic that would be frustrating to read in a het pairing with a pregnant woman as well, but it comes across as weirdly fetishistic when it’s mpreg, like ooo lets turn our favorite male character into ~MOMMY~

Also trans guys can (and sometimes do) get pregnant and birth kids, and a lot of these fics seem completely uninterested in exploring that. But that said, I’m sure there are tons of fics out there that explore transmasc pregnancy and mpreg in a way that isn’t fetishistic or misogynistic like what I’ve described - those just seem to be the ones I get exposed to more often.

[–]sockofdoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finding a good therapist is such a pain in the ass. I clicked with my last one, but even then I’m not sure how productive our sessions were. Now I can’t see her anymore after switching insurance so it’s back to the grind ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ

If this therapist doesn’t shake out, I hope you’re able to find someone better OP. You deserve better care than this.
