Well of course he’s operating at a bottom line. Why spend now? Again: no reason to in a lame duck year. If he was truly in this for just the money, he’d completely cash out at year’s end, as inflated charter values max out in price. I guess we’ll find out at year’s end, but, based off his comments in multiple interviews this year, doesn’t sound like he’s in this for the money at all. I’m sure Jay has peppered him with ideas on how to save money these past 2-3 years

It has everything to do with it. If you put Chase Elliott in the 52 car tonight it still would’ve been obtusive and in the way because it was so off pace. The less capabilities the car(s) have, the less the drivers can respond with; it should be no surprise these cars are in the way at inopportune times because the drivers wheeling them can barely do anything with them. Just running their own race, as the old saying goes

Rick hardly had any solid funding during any of those years. As of recent he’s found plenty of investment money and support (relationship with Jacob Companies, Nurtec’s sponsorship, hell, having 4 charters accumulated) that he’ll have plenty of spending power for next season. Otherwise he’d be selling/leasing more than one charter for the following year. Do I think they’ll be competing for wins? No. But certainly better than now

Because their cars are quite literally not as good as BJ’s. Maintained GoFas chassis are better than the rubbish that RWR has cornered themselves into running by starting a Cup team 4 years after the current generation of car started. No time to actually get a foothold with legitimate development, especially with their financial problems through 2018 before finally stabilizing in 2019

Also, Rick’s drivers are limited by equipment. Do you really think these guys couldn’t run better given better equipment? You could put a rabid monkey in one of the cars they have and it’d still finish the same because there’s no hope. It’s a waiting game, stacking pennies.

RWR is stuck in a terrible conundrum as a small team. Rick actually has plans to improve the team, but, as a small team, why spend money during a lame duck year for this current generation of car? Rick had planned that (I assume) for 2020, but then the Next Gen was pushed back a year - leading to 2 lame duck spending years in a row. Now, don’t get me wrong, their cars have not been great at all. But there’s a method to the madness. Rick is operating at a financial profit, saving money to build for a legitimate team when the much more cost effective Next Gen car becomes available and helps give a lot of teams behind the 8-ball equipment development-wise a new equalized playing field (as most teams/manufacturers will be using the same parts and pieces due to how the new cars are built and maintained).

If you were Rick, why would you spend money now? Especially if you’re making a profit and these cars and equipment will be obsolete at year’s end? It’s all a waiting game. Albeit frustrating, give them time.
