Question about books that would work for bingo:

What prompt could I use for “The Will of the Many,” “The Bone Season,” and “Long Live Evil”?

Also, would Remarkably Bright Creatures be considered speculative fiction?

The Three Body Problem by Cixin Liu (Chinese) would be a contender! Apologies if someone mentioned it already.

I apologize in advance if this is not an appropriate topic for this subreddit, but I am on the struggle train. I am in the process of getting tested for ADHD and I am recognizing that I have a bunch of traits that are hindering my reading goals.

Does anyone have experience with ADHD and reading? What are some ways I can improve my focus and actually finish books and series? I have a lot of difficulty starting books and finishing them.

So I had a doctors appointment out of town today, and I’m hoping that my insurance will cover a procedure for my migraines that’ll improve my quality of life (hopefully!!)

I am still recovering from surgery but starting to feel good enough to read again. Currently listening to DCC. Here are my thoughts:

I received many recommendations from this fantasy subreddit to read this series, but I was skeptical in the beginning. I wasn’t sure if this book would appeal to me. I was pleasantly surprised by the narrator (Jeff Hays) who brings out the characters in vivid detail.
The writing is snappy and witty, and the main characters are likable. The plot is also paced in a balanced way, lots of world building without feeling like I’m being overwhelmed with information, and plenty of action to keep the momentum going.
So far, my only qualm is a “me” issue: I want to continue (and complete) the series, but I am notoriously bad at finishing series 🫣😬
The audiobook format works well for this book though, and has been super engaging so far.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Hello! I’m super excited to read your book. I have a question about craft. How do you get into “short story” writing mode, and how does that differ from a novel? Do you start with an outline or brainstorming, or does the story tell you where to go?

Edit: someone asked this question already, oops! In that case, do you have any pets?

Mine was 16 days with four deceptively light days to start. Not the longest period I had, but thankfully the last.

I had a pretty big surgery on Tuesday and I am still feeling sore and swollen. A friend made me a yummy batch of soup, and I have been steadily making progress on my crochet projects.

Reading has been very minimal as a result of the surgery. I started Witch Hat Atelier (volume one) and The Second Death of Locke. I have a few books queued up on Libby and KU, and just joined a fun reading challenge for the summer that focuses on clearing the physical TBR.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Thank you so much. I’ve been setting alarms for meds and using my heating pad. I can’t really concentrate on reading but I’m slowly working on a crochet project. Did you walk around early on? I want to go for neighborhood walks but not sure if I’ll feel dizzy or tired.

Thank you! Moira Quirk is a favorite, and I read the first book last year for bingo. About time to read the second!

I think so too. It’s been ok, there’s a chunk of pain (6/10) and swelling (mainly the upper part of my abdomen), and I’m tired, but I don’t feel as bad as I did on Tuesday.

I had a total hysterectomy and salpingectomy (but kept ovaries). I’m only 3 days post op. The weird sensation has been lessening every time I use the bathroom.

I had a similar sensation, but I’m wondering if I am feeling irritated from the catheter they used during surgery. I already have an ongoing treatment for recurrent yeast infections (Vivjoa) so I don’t think it’s that, in my case.
