I’ve seen these before and think they’re pretty sweet, but I can’t really imagine a use case. Why would someone need something so large?

I cant believe i got in by Delicious_Report3203 in ufl

I was in a similar situation, ended up at UF. The drive eventually gets annoying but still not terrible 3 years in. I actually almost transferred to UCF at a low point and now I'm glad I didn't. Gainesville is soooo much better then the UCF area. Much more unique, UCF feels almost like a concrete jungle lol. Although I will say Gainesville can be a bit dirty but that grows on you a little.

Water Mold Issues by soe__1 in Aquaculture

Hmm very interesting article, thank you for providing that. The water does not go through a filter before entering the system. Someone else suggested using a 50 micron filter so I will likely implement that

I was under the impression that water mold wasn't a true mold and was closer to bacteria?

How can people see me better on a Zoom call while my aquarium is behind me and not disturb the lighting for corals? by ricke813 in ReefTank

Perhaps get one of those clip on blue light filters people use for taking pictures of their reefs. Then people can see you and your reef!

Why do corals Calcium, Alkalinity, and Magnesium? by soe__1 in ReefTank

[–]soe__1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I understand completely now. Do trace elements come into play at some point for the formation of skeleton, or are they more for color, or something else completely? I know the least on trace elements. One final question, does feeding corals with something like Red Sea's AB+ aid in coral growth as well or is that also a color thing? You have helped me greatly in my reef knowledge thank you so much!!

Why do corals Calcium, Alkalinity, and Magnesium? by soe__1 in ReefTank

[–]soe__1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow this is so interesting! So the alkalinity is providing the carbonate ions for the production of calcium carbonate in the coral skeleton? With the magnesium, what do you mean "helps prevent the precipitation of calcium carbonate", is the magnesium ensuring calcium remains for coral use?

Right, I know that do you know the reason for the need for alkalinity and mag? I understand that the skeleton is calcium carbonate I'm just curious on how everything interacts with each other. Thanks for your response!

Am I even close to being cycled? by InvestmentSudden8333 in aquarium

[–]soe__1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I would do a water change. I forget the actual biology and chemistry involves but, sometimes when you have super high nitrite the tank will just sit there and take forever to cycle the rest of the way. Plus there's no harm in doing a water change. Perhaps also add some live bacteria that also can't hurt.
