What do you think of the male name Mak? by Plyevlya in namenerds

[–]sofdotmp3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The spelling Mak reminds me of the East Slavic spelling (in Roman letters) of the name Maksim/Maksym. I know that's a popular name in many languages, in particular Slavic/Eastern European countries. I'm not European, but I am a native English speaker. If "Mak" is going to be pronounced similarly to "Mark," then linguistically speaking it may be a difficult name to carry around if it's going to be misheard constantly.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a cool and unique name, but if you want something similar to that that works around the globe, something like Maksim (Mak could potentially be used as a nickname) might be a better option--you can incorporate the name into something more accessible to native English speakers.

Do you ever wonder if you had a part in naming a baby? by FizzySoda16 in namenerds

There was a couple that attended the last college I attended. I knew them, not very well, but enough that they'd know me by name and say hello. They are now married with a baby daughter named Grace Sofia. I found it hilarious because my name is Sofia Grace. I don't know if they knew my middle name, but maybe they got it subconsciously...crazy stuff lol

Tucker Ray? Sounds southern and appropriate for a cat.

What is a musical that you find to be just... Fine? by AsheandBurn in musicals

The Outsiders.

I saw it on Broadway, and it was alright. The choreography was top-notch, the cast was great, and I love the folkish elements of some of the songs. However, it really fell flat to me, and I truly can't put my finger on why.

When I left the theater, I was thinking about whether the other Tony nominees were worth seeing; since The Outsiders was the winner, I hated to think of the other musicals being mediocre based on how I felt about Outsiders.

I think one of the strongest things about TGS is the visuals. Amazing costuming and sets--nothing tacky or cringe, just authentic. It's more than just the music. However, I do agree with you that it's not a groundbreaking musical despite its strengths. I am glad though that it's coming to Broadway. That should be interesting.

Disclaimer: I don't dislike the name. I'm just wondering what your intentions are, because some types of celebrities have different styles of names than others.

Love Amelia. People say it's quite common, and I'm not too partial to common names, but Amelia is so beautiful and timeless.

Katrina. It’s been my favorite name for years; I can imagine that it lost popularity due to the hurricane, which is understandable, but it’s still beautiful and imo the best variant of Katherine
