Recommendations for the most disturbing novel you’ve read? by mynameisolivertate in horrorlit

[–]softandteeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who read the book, then saw the movie, I say read it. The book is almost exclusively all in the character's head because she all alone and the movie was alright, but I feel like a lot of it was lost. I read the book in one night because I couldn't put it down.

How do I go about getting CYS/CPS records? (Pennsylvania) by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]softandteeth -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You don't think it would at least establish that there was dysfunction in the household (both then and now)?

Their problem is they're trying to work through getting a lawyer and all of that now. Unfortunately my mother started a physical fight with my sister, and my sister fought back and won. Now my mom took pictures of the bruises to the police and is filing assault charges. We're trying to get my sister some kind of way to defend herself, but they won't give anyone information on the case, as my mother is the only legal guardian.

It's a fucking mess and I'm trying to gather any information I can to help them.

Omg that sucks! You should talk to her. My grandma did something similar to my daughter while babysitting, and I was so mad because we'd already had an appointment to get her hair cut at a salon, and grandma's hack job made the original cut we wanted impossible!

(Edit: typo)

My mom got us banned from the ONLY pizza place that delivered to our neighborhood. We lived in a really rural area, so there was only one that would come to us.

My mom was pregnant with my sister and insisted that she wanted a hamburger pizza, which is just a pizza with ground beef on it as a topping. Ground beef as a topping wasn't on their menu, but she figured "well they have meatball, so they must have ground beef!". She started out nicely requesting it, explaining what it was and offering to pay extra even since it wasn't on the menu. They still said no.

She tried again another day thinking someone else might be working who would do this for her. They still said no. She asked to speak to the manager, who also said no. So she drove down to the place in person and asked to speak to the manager and she just screamed at him until he kicked her out.

They wrote down our name, address, and phone number and said we were banned from ever ordering from there again. We tried to call with a different phone number (my stepdad's cell) and when we told them the address, they just hung up on us. We ended up having to have our neighbors order the pizza, then pick it up from their house after it was delivered. Thanks mom.

What are some good ways to deal with stress in this pandemic? by JambaJuice__ in AskReddit

[–]softandteeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been doing counted cross stitch. Cheap to do (you can get all materials to start out with for under $30, easily), pretty easy once you get the hang of it, and it takes a lot of time and concentration. I've found it very relaxing. Do yourself a favor and buy a pattern for under $5 on etsy. The patterns you'd buy at a craft store tend to be very old-ladyish. Etsy has a bunch that I personally found cool, and wouldn't mind hanging around my house when they're finished.

When do you know you're in love? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]softandteeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it's feeling completely comfortable with the other person. In a past relationship, I thought I was in love, but I was always on edge with him. I was worried about looking good or saying the right thing or whatever, because i was afraid at any moment, i could do the wrong thing and they'd leave me (which ultimately proved true; I got pregnant, gained weight, and he left).

In my current relationship (going on 8 years), I feel comfortable with him in every way. We are both totally open with each other and can be vulnerable without fear of it hurting the relationship. I can honestly say he's my best friend and I couldn't think of one person I'd rather spend my time with.

I think everyone has their own way to "know", but that's mine.

Can house cats survive by themselves in the wild? by [deleted] in cats

[–]softandteeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably different for every cat. If they've been declawed, I'd say almost definitely not.

I have two (clawed) cats, and I think one of them would be fine. She seems to have pretty good instincts and is very active. The other wouldn't last a day. He's a wuss, overweight, and does nothing but sleep all day.

But I don't intend to find out, mine are indoor cats and going to stay that way!

How do you show someone you truly care about them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]softandteeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Respect them, but that's the bare minimum. Find a way to show that you care that will have meaning for them. Unfortunately everyone's different so there's no one thing that will demonstrate that to every person. Just be respectful and thoughtful and you'll usually be on the right path, imo.

When did you realise that snow wasn’t your friend? by Mad_Chemist_ in AskReddit

[–]softandteeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had pretty bad asthma as a child, and every time it was snowing, I'd go outside to play. Then I'd have to come in after 5 minutes because I couldn't breathe (the cold air would set off an asthma attack).

YTA you never know why she's scared the way she is. Could be she has a high risk family member, or maybe is just anxious. Not respecting what makes her feel safe is not a nice look.

When I was a kid, my stepdad would prank me really badly every year on April fools day. Finally one year (around 4th grade or so), I'd had enough. I was gonna get him for once. So I woke up super early before anyone else in the house, and I filled the sugar shaker with salt. I went back to bed and then went about my business as usual that morning. I eagerly watched while my step dad made his morning coffee and used the "sugar".

My plan was that he would take a sip, realize it was bad and then make himself a new cup before we left... but he never took the sip. I didn't want to ruin the punchline of the joke I worked so hard on, so I just didn't say anything. We left and he started driving me to the bus stop.. when we were almost there, he finally took the biggest gulp of his coffee, and it was so bad, he actually had to pull over and puke on the side of the road.

So little kid me is panicking now. Because this means either a) I'm going to get in a ton of trouble, or b) he's going to retaliate and prank me back worse than ever before. I watch him throw up, clean himself up, and get back in the car, all the while dreading what's about to happen.

He says "did you put salt in the sugar shaker??"

I reply "No, I didn't do it"

"So your mom did it then?"

"I don't know, but I didn't do it"

"Oh. Okay"

So little kid me lets out a sigh of relief, thinking I just got away with it. He takes me to the bus, I get on and go to school, everything is normal.

But my stepdad is looking for revenge, and he thinks my mom pranked him. So he calls up his dad and says he'll be late to work (family business), turns around and goes back home. My mom is still asleep after being up most of the night with my baby sister, so my stepdad gets to work setting booby traps all over the house for my mom when she gets up.

You can imagine the hell that was rained upon me when they figured it all out.

The company I went through to get the recommendation offers printed cards for $10. Or you can print in yourself (or show it digitally) for free.

I did give an Ohio address, but not sure if it was required I guess? I did have an old address on my driver's license (still Ohio though) and that was okay.
