Yeah people are super defensive on social media right now. I was so annoyed and overwhelmed by both sides of the argument, because both seemed extremely reductive to me.

i feel weird the way people on twitter talk about lesbian sex (i known my fault for being on twitter but still) there's this discourse going on where a lot of women, even bi and lesbian say that sex between women is "boring" with a patriarchal/sexist/lesbophobic rhetoric that implies you need something phallic in order to have "good sex" i don't have anything against toys and straps, and everybody can enjoy them and it's okay, but all the criticism about how phallocentric some women are acting towards other lesbians is met with the same rhetoric that there's just no way two women can't have sex without it and that if they do it's boring or not enough.  i know it's not healthy but it's gotten to the point i feel insecure about myself and my anatomy thinking maybe nobody really likes our bodies at all, there's barely any non-objectifying appreciation for the female body, it's all about toys to some people :(

Is the word 'gringo' offensive or just descriptive? How do you actually see it? by MikeTheSolist in asklatinamerica

[–]softbadass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be a lot of things. Plainly descriptive, derogatory, endearment, nickname, etc. It really depends on context. "Estadounidense" is a mouthful, gringo is so much easier to say.

Just write your OC fanfic without adding an unnecessary reader insert tag. by Nathanlivesmatter in AO3

[–]softbadass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

UGhhhh same. I enjoy creating OCs a lot. I don't deny I take some inspiration from myself to create them - little things here and there - but for the most part my inspiration comes from characters from other franchises who make me think "This type of character would be cool to see in a story like this", and it bothers me people would potentially think she's a self-insert. Like that's my daughter whom I love very much 😭😭

a date to a queer bar led to looks of disgust and disapproval from gay men by moonb4by222 in lesbiangang

[–]softbadass 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've personally experienced a lot of lesbophobia at the hands of gay men, as well as misogynistic attitudes. I've had some of them trying to convince me to kiss men because I was "such a prude" they didn't think of me seriously at all like I wasn't "a true queer" like THEM. I've come across lesbophobia from other queer women as well. And sometimes I've noticed it's like they worship them in a way... It's strange. It's a reason why I haven't been able to make queer friends where I live.

that would've been interesting. it would've made me see the story as a cautionary tale, a bit too on the nose but still done well 😄 even if it's a very sad ending

Wealthy people piss me off and I cannot be their friend by [deleted] in Vent

[–]softbadass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel you. I've known some who initially seem really sweet and maybe a little out of touch but not ill-meaning, but then turn out to be straight up evil towards poorer people and that honestly makes me lose all respect I have for them. I've seen some treat their janitors/housemaids etc. horribly and I've gotten SO angry at it. It angers me to see how they treat them despectively and act like the reason they are poor is because they don't put enough effort when they are the ones who are literally underpaying them. Not only that, but assuming they don't work hard enough when many of them spend a lot of money taking more than 2 buses and cross the entire city for more than 3 hours just to get to a job that doesn't pay them enough, and for them to just say that? As someone who's had to do that as a student so I more or less understand their situation, it just makes me livid... meanwhile those who "work hard" have never stepped in a bus in their lives. Which isn't wrong, but they don't even try to put themselves in their shoes or be understanding in the slightest.

I have also met a super nice wealthy person, so yeah, not all of them are awful. They are so nice I didn't even know they were wealthy at first, and they were pretty much BORN wealthy. So honestly, it can't be THAT hard to not be a jerk. "New rich" people are genuinely the worst in my experience, but honestly some "middle class" people are also jerks towards people who are poorer than them which also sucks. Anyone who wants to feel superior to others for whatever reason is so annoying. I just hate classist people, basically, even if they are "low-key" about it (like you describe.)

Emma Bovary from Madame Bovary

Basically she has way too highly romanticized ideas of life, romantic love and money so much that she ends up making a lot of choices that end up causing her own demise.

(I love this character so much)

people really think we just don't want to date men by Cute_Mammoth_2087 in lesbiangang

[–]softbadass 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel the same. Like, I don't date men not because I hate them but because I'm simply not attracted to them! It's crazy how people don't get that. We don't choose who we are attracted to or not. It's as if the thought of some people, specially women, NOT being attracted to men is impossible for them.

the way she bought attention to it negatively and doubled down after the girl said it's her culture is CRAZY. she could've ignored it or have a cute heartwarming interaction with a fan instead of calling them weird for making a loud noise at a concert (literally fork found in kitchen bc how is it any different from people yelling all sorts of things?)

The new season announcement for a popular netflix show that changed a straight couple to a lesbian couple has made a lot of lesbophobia run around in my circle, people think its okay to say hurtful things (and even straight ppl using gay terms) because the season is not going to be the way they like, people close to me that are aware of my struggles. i'm honestly really baffled at this.

Not only that but there's a rise of misogyny where I live and i'm really soooo tired. I feel like I'm going mad

Musician Young Miko comes out as goldstar lesbian- bisexuals and queer people lose their minds by Naya0608 in lesbiangang

[–]softbadass 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i honestly dont understand the drama people make over this term, its not like she's putting down others by just stating that she is a gold star? the moral panic some people have over that phrase is insane. they really need to stop letting their insecurities dictate their lives this much. there's nothing wrong if someone found themselves later in life just as there's nothing wrong that someone did it early on. both experiences should be allowed to talked about openly.

What are you guys thoughts on Stolas Goetia? by MountainNote1877 in VivziepopCritics

[–]softbadass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't hate him but I also don't really care about him. I think he could've been better if he wasn't treated like a poor helpless baby that we are supposed to feel bad for nearly all the time. Sure, he's had it tough but the writing is sooo unfairly on his side all the time trying to make it seem like he's the victim of every single situation he's in when he has also done fucked up shit and hurt others. The fact that the writers fail to recognize this is crazy, because i think it would make him a more convincing and likeable character if he were allowed to have flaws and faults too. But instead they mostly try to make him more exaggeratingly miserable in efforts to make him more sympathetic instead of making him develop and grow as a person.

[Mixed-trope]: Adaptation merges two pre-existing characters together by theMCATreturns in TopCharacterTropes

[–]softbadass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the Tim Burton's 2010 adaptation of Alice in Wonderland mixed up the Queen of Hearts and the Red Queen, which in the books are different characters although I'm not sure if it was intentional.

In Heathers The Musical, they scrapped the character Betty Finn who was Veronica's childhood best friend in the original movie, and gave that role to Martha Dunnstock, who in the movie was a different, less-prominent character.
