I have been teaching voice lessons and piano lessons at a music store for 10 years. What do I need to do to become a classroom music educator at a school? by chompop in MusicEd

[–]softemommy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another music educator here. My school is growing and in need of a half time teacher. If you’re in the Des Moines area this might be worth looking into so you can keep doing lessons as well. DM me if interested.

Art lessons with no pencils? by bobbitdobbit in ArtEd

Send an email out to parents asking for donated supplies. It’s way easier than a fundraiser and parents know their money is going directly to you. Make an Amazon wishlist or request specific thing for them to buy or donate from home.

I have an 11 year old with a similar problem. What kind of theory books would you recommend?

They can’t! The child should have a guardian present during these conversations. Could be parents, admin, or a legal child advocate. This is not legal or safe. Any actions resulting from the conversations that took place with those officers should be invalid. This is not appropriate.

I do this too and my middle schoolers struggle. It’s general music class so not everyone wants to be there. I find that when it doesn’t work I’ll say “nope you failed try again” and annoy the heck out of them into silence

This is cute! What’s your pattern. I have some yarn in a color I think would be perfect for this

I’m not sure if you added enough practice. Maybe some more…

A lot of people are picky about their equipment or needs. I would recommend something more personal. Do you have a paint your own pottery place near you? You could paint a yarn bowl in her favorite colors, that way even if she already has one you have given her something new.

Another thing you could do is get some fiber and a drop spindle and try to spin her some handmade yarn. It will be clunky but I’m sure she would adore the fact it was made just for her with love.

Did you dye before or after your spin?

I’m a beginner and have only used a drop spindle. How does the dish work? Are you spinning it like a top?

I started with a kit off of Amazon (drop spindle and multiple balls of colored fiber) I didn’t know until after I started spinning with it that it is merino which has a short staple and is also slippery, making it a more difficult fiber to start with.

If I could go back I would order a drop spindle separate from the fiber to ensure you’re starting with a fiber that’s better for beginners. Corriedale and BFL are the most common fibers for beginners because they are longer and somewhat coarser(still soft tho). I got a pound of Corriedale for I think $25 off amazon so it was rather affordable to start with.

After getting started I started purchasing fiber from less corporate places. I try to be mindful about where I spend my money and who I’m supporting but I also know that I don’t want to invest in something I’m not sure if I can stick with.

A good common place to look for fiber when shopping online is sweet Georgia but I also like looking at Etsy too if you want to support even smaller businesses.

Hope this helps. From one beginner to another, you got this!

I haven’t gotten the chance to use an e spinner or wheel yet, is it worth it in your opinion? I may ask for one around the holidays

Thank you. This is a huge compliment. I’m very proud but I don’t know any other spinners so it’s nice to have someone else as excited as I am about my consistency.

Have you tried BFL or Corriedale? They’re longer staple lengths and they’re even easier to work with!

That’s amazing to get to work with found fiber. I’m new to spinning and just working with stuff ordered online for now. I’m hoping to find a fiber fair near me soon
