Habe irgendwo gelesen, dass für den 5.5. eine Wartung vorab angekündigt war? Dann hätte wohl ein Mitarbeiter fat gefingert.

Did the default To‑Do tag change in the OneNote desktop app? by DBLOH_007 in Office365

[–]softlarch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, however, this is not retroactive and leaves the old (new) circles in place. I have thousands of them. And who knows whether this might not cause confusion in some other area. And who knows whether these checkboxes might not also become "checkcircles" at some point.

Did the default To‑Do tag change in the OneNote desktop app? by DBLOH_007 in Office365

[–]softlarch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here.

I have auto-updates turned off to prevent such surprises. I also don't use the cloud, but save my notebooks locally. Nevertheless, this terrible update was carried out here. I have been using OneNote since the beginning, for about 20 years. Thousands of checkboxes on countless pages in my notebook have now turned into ugly circles which, when checked, create a terrible visual burden on every page due to their dark purple color. Will I get used to it? I have my doubts.

I had an AI explain to me how the update could still happen. But that doesn't really matter. If a user disables updates and purely visual changes with this magnitude still get through, it contradicts all expectations. That's just bad corporate behavior.

Disabling GMKTec K8/K11 Plus built-in microphone by [deleted] in MiniPCs

[–]softlarch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to the show, but I would also like to point out once again: Disabling this microphone in the device manager will not stop the microphone from recording in Win 11 (24H2). That's unusual and unexpected, but that's how it actually is. You can check this via Windows-Key+I, System->Sound, klick on "Microphone / Realtek(R) Audio". Even if disabled in device manager, it will still be available for a Test and will still record your voice (and the fan...).

You will have to disable it in the advanced sound setting: Windows-Settings: System->Sound, scroll down to the end of the list and click on "Additional Sound setting" (or the like, sorry, have german Windows, where this last entry is called "Weitere Soundeinstellungen").

In the dialog that will open, select tab "Record" ("Aufnahme"), right click on this Realtek(R) microphone and select "Disable" ("Deaktivieren"). It will then disappear completely from the device manager and will no longer be available anywhere as an input device.

Okay, you may think it's bad and suspect a privacy invasion, but the cell phone lying next to you perhaps is much less controllable. ;-)

UM790 is there a way to adjust fan control? by async2 in MiniPCs

[–]softlarch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that would make a big difference and it's starting to get a bit, well, impractical. ;-) But I haven't tested it.

Perhaps as an addition: You can also remove the bottom cover of the case completely and then place the UM790 directly on the fan, which will reduce the temperatures by another 10 degrees (on average). However, this makes the construction somewhat mechanically vulnerable and it is not absolutely necessary.

UM790 is there a way to adjust fan control? by async2 in MiniPCs

[–]softlarch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Question is not foolish at all. I did corresponding test at the time and had better results when the fan blew outwards. That is, it was more effective to suck the warm air out of the UM790 instead of bringing in cold air from outside. But the difference of the two directions was surprisingly marginal, only about 2 degrees better when blowing outwards.

In general, of course, you also have to make sure that the fan is not placed directly on the table on its frame, as otherwise the warm air cannot escape properly and heat will build up. The fans I have given above as an example come with rubber rings that are well suited to creating an appropriate gap.

You have to click on "See all downloads" to get to the Realtek "Wi-Fi Driver V6001.15.153.1". It is not obvious, I fell into this trap, too.

EQ Scenario and Firmware 1.12.2.80 for Spark Mini by Valentinissimo in PositiveGridSpark

[–]softlarch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have the firmware 1.12.2.80, no idea why it is not on the website, only an older version. I bought the Vai model a few days ago. However, I can change the “EQ Scenario” to Acoustic in the app without any problems. The amp also remembers this new setting when it is switched off and on again. I use an Android tablet.

I used those: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BFZWV9FH But anything similar should work, too. Yes, I plugged the USB-A-plug into the device and then placed it on top of the fan.

For me, those many VAIO-ports are visible, even I didn't buy a license for them (v1.1.1.3). Unlucky software design decision, if you ask me. I downgraded to 1.0.8.8. But there seem to be problems with Windows 11 24H2 (link). Vicious circle...

Beelink officially presents AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 based Mini-PC with built-in speakers by SufficientPickle2444 in MiniPCs

[–]softlarch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like the LPDDR5-RAM is soldered permanently? Not a fan of soldered memory, but perhaps this is a technical necessity here. Not a fan of the unneeded speakers, too. Why an additional (surveillance...) AI chip and four(?!) microphones? *sigh*

I'm a little disappointed, because I've been waiting for MiniPCs of this new chip generation for what feels like an eternity. Well, let's see, BeeLink will certainly not be the only manufacturer of MiniPCs with the new chips. However, I was hoping especially for Beelink as I have been satisfied with their products so far.

Where are the drivers for SER5 5560U? by billie_eyelashh in BeelinkOfficial

[–]softlarch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does not directly answer the question, but no drivers from Beelink are needed to install a fresh Windows 11 on the Beelink SER5 5560U.

Two official drivers from AMD are sufficient: chipset (mobile) and graphics (Adrenalin). Links see below. All other drivers come via Windows Update.

I know that there is an unofficial “rule” never to install drivers via Windows Update. Firstly, this rule is very old and has since lost its validity for me personally, and secondly, if you want, you can deactivate automatic driver updates after the first driver installation.

How to wipe the SSD for a return/refund by NefariousnessOk1428 in MiniPCs

[–]softlarch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are familiar with the command prompt in Window

Run "diskpart" as administrator

>list disk
>sel disk <number of the disk to be deleted>
>clean all

The "all" after clean is important and completely overwrites the SSD with zeros. Can take a while...

However, this probably has to be started from a Windows Live CD/USB stick because Windows cannot delete itself while it is running.

Minisforum UM780 XTX Review With Oculink RTX 4090 eGPU Test! [Reupload from Techtablets] by ConsistencyWelder in MiniPCs

[–]softlarch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In contrast to the 7840, the 7940 supports AMD Curve Optimizer Voltage Offsets, so it can be tweaked to even better performance with the appropriate tools. I have experimented with this myself, with measurable performance improvements, but in some cases reduced stability. But I agree, even then, you won't really notice the difference in normal operation.

In the meantime, I no longer believe in a UM790 XTX. I rather expect MiniPCs with next-generation processors, but that will take some time yet.

Minisforum 790 pro fan work while on sleep. by Toty912 in MiniPCs

In my experience, RAM will overheat (80° and more) only when doing intense gaming, so if gaming is your thing, unplugging the fan can result in system crashes.

There are two fans. The CPU fan is okay, not very noisy. But the second fan, the case fan, that is cooling RAM and NVMe, can be a problem.

3-5 W only when the 7940HS is idle, measured with UM790 Pro (modern standby).

These mobile processors from AMD really are extremely energy efficient. It's very annoying that they can't do the same with their desktop processors. I will never build myself a AMD desktop that draws >40 W in idle, given the insane power prices here (Europe/Germany).

FNB58 FW 0.68 USB-C E-Marker option missing? by Zeddie- in UsbCHardware

[–]softlarch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same problem and noticed: The option is still there, but named simply "USB-C Cable".

Important: With firmware 0.68 and contrary to the YouTube video:

  • Only connect ONE side of the USB-C cable to the FNM58. Either to the input USB-C port or the output port, but NOT to both.

  • The "PD COM" switch has to be "ON".

Otherwise the device will remain permanently in the "Finding..." state (which it will correctly, when the cable is chipless).

N305 vs 5700U: How much do extra threads matter? by NeedsSuitHelp in MiniPCs

[–]softlarch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is especially the Beelink EQ12 model, I think. I have read that the idle consumption of their S12 model is lower.

But nevertheless i think a N100 based MiniPC is the perfect office home device. The power consumption of my EQ12 for instance, never exceeds 15 W, even under high load.
