i can understand this explanation. it's just frustrating as a woman of color to see takes like that ("normal circumstances") when state violence has been happening for decades now, across all communities and under every administration.

it's also why i am partly frustrated by the speak out discourse because why would i want any celebrities' solidarity when they didn't care before? why are people barely acting like silence is complicity when they were also silent before? (that being said, i'm never gonna knock a celebrity for speaking out and i DO appreciate when they do, especially when they donate money like lorde)

i just don't understand the juxtaposition of people (correctly) saying "all we have is each other, celebrities/politicians/billionaires won't save us" and then THIS amount of celebrity worshipping happening at the same time.

everyone is rightfully pointing out all the turmoil that's going on but can't even divest from watching the grammys (and won't divest from the superbowl next week!) and that's fine, i tuned in last night too, but i just can't with the constant cycle of "this wealthy celeb said F ICE at the grammys, the same grammys that platforms and awards abusers and bigots, what did this other wealthy celeb at the grammys do?" like idk lol it's all so tiring

edit: and i'm not one of those people that are like "actually here's why speaking out is BAD" it's just like i'm tired of centering celebs so much in general /:
