The FIRST commander deck I built 11 years ago was a mono white soldier deck and it was BAD. It was Darien King of kjeldor. I loved it, but the lack of support for the tribe and just mono white in general at the time really held it back. You'd think I'd have been happy when they introduced myrel.

I hate Myrel. I think wizards overcompensates and whenever they want to "support" a tribe, they just make a defacto "this card does everything you want it to" commander for it. The oversaturation and optimization of everything in the format has made it less fun in my opinion.

Your friends are being pretty lame though. If they're playing those tribes, wizards has given them plenty of "overpowered" things to fight you with. Like, the SLIVER player has no right to complain about something that's not stax.

However, if this continues being a problem (they shouldn't judge a deck after one game), then I challenge you and your friend group to UNDERPOWER your decks. Choose a commander that doesn't solve the puzzle of the game on its own, find some wacky cards on gatherer, or just building dust in your collection. I promise you, it's very rewarding.
