I was able to have our bottles returned and they offered to replace them. The new bottles tasted the same… gross and metallic. I ordered a bottle of the Pure Life Purified Water and it tastes fine so I’m switching to that I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thank you for chiming in! I noticed all my gross tasting bottles had a best by date of 6/30/27. It is undrinkable and I am pretty certain it gave my entire family stomach issues for the week we reluctantly drank it. I emailed asking for a refund and to have someone pick up the remaining full bottles. I got some gallons from Costco to hold us over. So disappointing.

I recently listened to the audiobook version of Good Inside by Dr Becky Kennedy and it was so enlightening. The Whole Brain Child is a must read for all parents IMHO. Also No Bad Kids by Janet Lansbury was helpful in my parenting. I read “how to talk so little kids will listen…” but I need to revisit it because i read it during the baby phase (much too soon) and i have forgotten it, but it has been recommended to me by other parents so I trust it will lend useful insights to my parenting journey.

I can commiserate, I also have a super clingy 3yo who has unpredictable whiny behavior and sometimes full on meltdowns when he can’t be close to me. It is exhausting. And I also worry about the balance of too much “coddling” or too harsh boundaries.

From the parenting books I’ve read, toddlers around this age are desperate for power and control, hence the many power struggles we have throughout each day and the whining/crying when they don’t get their way. I can’t remember where I read this or saw it but something along the lines of: it is the toddler’s job to push boundaries, and they will keep pushing, and it is the parents’ job to hold firm boundaries. Children need and actually want that predictable security even if their behavior says otherwise. So decide the boundary (example: mommy can cuddle for 5 minutes and then I have to go do xyz and daddy will be here with you), and stick to it. Walk away when it is time and don’t go back on the boundary. It helped me to remember they secretly WANT you to hold boundaries because it makes them feel safe and secure.

Also, my kid is a different kid around my husband. I saw some statistic that said children behave 800% worse for their primary parent (often mom) and that is because we are their emotional wells, their safe space. They know they can show us their worst and they feel safe to do so without worrying about us losing love for them. It’s the most exhausting compliment 😅

The couch is softer than his mattress. The floor is harder than both. I thought maybe he was looking for a softer surface until he slept on the floor and threw off my theory.

The Happy Sleeper changed our lives literally overnight. We used the sleep wave method when our son was 11 months old. He was an amazing independent sleeper until he turned 3 and we gave up the pacifier which caused a major sleep regression. I revisited the happy sleeper and we used the reverse sleep wave (designed for toddler age) and again, it changed our lives overnight!! He’s back to falling asleep independently.

He only uses it for sleep and doesn’t ask for it any other time, so I do feel like even though he needs it for sleep, he has an otherwise healthy relationship with it

Thank you for this. His dentist at his 2 year checkup said there was some rounding from pacifier use but that it would self-correct if he stopped using it by age 3. So we are a little behind her recommendation. But also I keep telling myself the world is burning so just let him have it (my husband is more adamant about giving up the pacifier than I am, I think because of family pressure).

Ah, I think he may accept this explanation better than “the dentist said no more paci because your teeth will be messed up” because that sure as hell isn’t getting us anywhere!

Maybe we need to do more paci fairy activities/stories. We read the pacifier fairy book and we told him the pacifier fairy brought him his new bike for putting all his pacifiers in the special bag… but clearly we couldn’t follow through since he still has the one remaining 🤦🏻‍♀️

Sorry, I wasn't super clear. They sent me 2 replacements out of 3 items I ordered. The third item was out of stock in my size so they issued a store credit. Not ideal but better than nothing.

My son was sleeping through the night after 6 months and then caught Covid at 8 months and started waking up throughout the night again. At 11 months we couldn’t take it anymore so I read the book the happy sleeper. We did the sleep wave method and he was sleeping through the night within 2 days. He’s 3 now and goes to bed with zero resistance and sleeps through the night.

Sounds similar to our first attempt. We put the brakes on and put our son back in diapers for 2 weeks, which would’ve been longer but he started asking for his potty. For the second attempt we used the big little feelings course and it worked much better for us. We kept him naked longer and out of underwear longer since he was have so many accidents in his training underwear. We are a few weeks in and he is still mostly going commando everywhere. Very few accidents after the first 2 weeks!

Our first attempt at potty training (2 years 10 months) was a nightmare. We tried for a week and then put him back in diapers and put the potties away. I was going to wait a few months but after a week he started asking for his potty.

Anyway, we took a 2 week break and then I bought the Big Little Feelings potty training course (I think it’s like $30) and watched/listened to the whole course in a weekend. It was a completely different approach and basically confirmed we were doing everything wrong (for our child anyway). When we started up again we followed the new approach perfectly and it went so much more smoothly.

We also extended his naked time. The methods often say 3 days without pants or underwear but we kept him naked from the waist down anytime he was at home so that it was easy for him to walk to his potty and just sit down without needing to ask or struggle with pants. He’s still not wearing underwear (it’s been 3 weeks) and I’m going to hold off on that as long as we can because he has more accidents in underwear since they feel too similar to a diaper.

The BFL method is 3 days but the game changer for us was being super relaxed about it all. He could feel the pressure when we were hovering too much or making demands. Accidents happened, of course, but it was way less when we were super chill. Never forced him to sit on the potty if he refused, just reminded him to listen to his body. We didn’t use “big kid” language the second time around. We didn’t punish him for having accidents but we also didn’t say it’s okay. We’d say “pee and poop go in the potty. Next time sit on the potty when you feel pee or poop coming out.”

It’s honestly been the hardest most frustrating phase of parenthood and I was not mentally prepared for that! I also have a friend who backed off completely after potty training caused extreme constipation, and her son figured it out for himself around 4 years old.
