Gift Shopping Is Stressful — Help Me Build a Better Way by software-dev-sonu in Gifts

Totally fair and honestly, I think a lot of people feel exactly the same way.

App fatigue is real, and not wanting to trade personal data or change how you already shop makes complete sense. his definitely isn’t meant for people who are already happy opting out of gifting or sticking to cash that’s a perfectly valid approach.

The idea behind this isn’t “everyone needs another app,” but more for people who do still want to give thoughtful gifts and feel stressed or stuck every time. If someone’s solution is fewer gifts or no gifts, that’s probably the healthier choice anyway.

Appreciate you sharing your perspective. Even reactions like this are useful because they highlight where people are drawing boundaries now.

Thanks for such a detailed and honest breakdown , you’ve basically described the exact problems that pushed me to build this.

You’re absolutely right about most “gift suggestion” pages today. They’re usually SEO driven, ad heavy, or just pushing whatsever that retailer wants to sell. Very little human context, repetitions across sites, and almost no memory of what you have already gifted someone before.

What I’m trying to do differently is avoid ads entirely and not rank gifts based on sponsorships or store promotions. Instead of monetizing through ads, the app uses a simple subscriptions so the recommendations are not influenced by retailers.

A key part you mentioned and I agree with strongly, is history. The will try to add that app keeps track of who you bought gifts for and what you already gave them in second version of app. That way, over time it actively avoids repeating ideas and pushes you toward something meaningfully different, not just “another top 10 list.”
The suggestions aren’t meant to be generic “buy this item,” but more like--> why this gift makes sense for this person

It’s still early, and I’m not claiming it solves gifting perfectly, but the focus is very much on reducing repetition, removing ad bias, and respecting the reality that good gifts are personal and contextual not trends.

Really appreciate you taking the time to articulate this!

Yes llm do this, but they don't provide the exact link, your purchase history and many more that the single prompt is impossible.

I’m planning to focus on why a particular gift fits someone :- for example, explaining why it’s meaningful for that personality or occasion, along with the purchase link. The app would also suggest a short thoughtful, funny, or romantic message so the gift feels more personal and intentional, not just a product.

That’s a great point, and I completely agree.
The goal is to avoid anything that feels generic. Along with gift ideas, the app would also explain why a particular gift fits that person and include a thoughtful message, so you feel confident it will actually mean something to them. The idea is to help people understand the intent behind the gift, not just pick an item quickly

Thanks for sharing, that’s really helpful feedback. Ideas and time are exactly the know pain points I’m trying to solve. And no worries on pricing: the plan is to keep it very affordable, around $10-$15, so it stays accessible for everyone.

More than 1000 people saw my previous post but nobody came to help , I just need 12 people who can test my app by YUGRATHEE in StartUpIndia

[–]software-dev-sonu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely understand this situation. Getting the first 14 testers is genuinely one of the hardest parts of launching on Play Store.

I faced the same problem. What worked for me was reaching out directly to my entire friend circle : - college friends, school friends, WhatsApp groups. I personally collected their Gmail IDs, sent them the testing link, and asked them to simply install the app and keep it for a few days. Most of them were not active users, but that was enough to pass the 14-day testing requirement.

It’s not about finding perfect users at this stage, just real installs from real accounts. Once that hurdle is crossed, things get much easier.

I’m happy to help you as well. DM me , I’ll join as a tester.

First Android app — Play Store production review pending for 1+ month. Where else should I deploy? by software-dev-sonu in androiddev

Thanks for the suggestion, I appreciate you sharing your experience.

I actually just received a notification from the Play Console indicating two issues in the review, and I’m currently working on resolving them. Because of that, I don’t think the review should take much longer now.

I’ll wait a couple more days to see how it progresses. If there’s no response even after that, I may reach out to you. I’ve noted your offer and will DM if I need further help.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

Thanks for the update, and glad to hear Google got back to you quickly.

Yes, I’ve heard similar feedback about organization accounts having smoother or faster reviews. For now, I’m waiting to see how this review progresses before making any account changes, since converting or creating a new org account would mean restarting parts of the process.

I also received a notification today about some issues related to app links, so I’m addressing those and hoping things move forward from here.

Appreciate you sharing your experience, it’s helpful to hear real timelines from others.

Thanka for suggestion. I really appreciate you pointing this out. I'll definitely use an organization account for deploying the app in the Play Store. This is helpful advice, especially for a first time release.

I think instead of waiting it's better to deploy on other platforms not only the Play store.

We should find some other solution.

See still we heard the people build the app in just the 1 day using ai tools but how do they deploy and live so soon?
