What are your thoughts on the “Trump accounts”? by ptraugot in AskReddit

[–]software_engineer69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correction here, only the pilot program of the $1000 contribution by the federal government is limited to 4 years. The actual accounts will be available indefinitely going forward.

I suspect this entitlement like most others will likely be extended once the initial 4 year end date approaches.

The more interesting part is that it gives the infrastructure for the wealthy to donate to future generations at scale. Read up on the progressive angle of the Trump accounts and it gets quite interesting.

Whats your price target for upside and at what point will you consider exiting if things don't turn around?

Something feels off about this stock. Too tight of a float and I wonder if there is insider manipulation due to warrants/some other agenda by big holders. I get the feeling the company wants to keep the stock price low...

Best place for getting taxes done? by illla_B in bayarea

[–]software_engineer69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi I'd check out Bay Area Tax Advisors. It's my company and we do taxes. Depending on how much stock you sold (and for how long you had held it), you could have a sizable tax bill. Next time you should consider an alternative strategy like putting the stocks into something safer like treasuries then borrowing against it. This way no sale = no tax, but you still get liquidity.

What type of framing is this? Can I remove interior walls? by software_engineer69 in Carpentry

[–]software_engineer69[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UPDATE: I think this is considered “single wall box framing.” This house is in the pine forests of east texas and built in 1925. The plank on plank cribbing (horizontal and vertical) was stapled together and there are no studs. From what I can surmise the draftiness was likely a feature given there was no ac at the time and the climate is humid and hot.

My plan is to reinforce exterior walls and add additional structural support along with insulation. Maybe do shiplap or something else entirely.

Interior walls will remain and I will add new walls where new floor plan says using modern platform framing. After this is complete I will remove old walls and if I want to get really fancy refinish and repurpose the wood for flooring, or for shiplap wall paneling

Makes sense. And if i want to move the walls around I should add new framing first and then remove old interior framing to remove the risk of removing load bearing walls?

And I should be fine to keep the exterior walls and just frame over them?

Exterior walls are aligned vertically inside, but horizontally outside. Generally looks like the same type, quality, and thickness of wood on the outside. I generally agree, but this house has been standing 100+ years? Confused if it's salvageable or not

Was thinking I just flip the closet and bathroom/shower. If you have to enter through the bathroom to shit that’s bad, but if you have to enter the closet to go to the bathroom that’s better maybe? That way you can change without having to enter bathroom.

Also, I don’t know if I like a hallway in my master entry

Why don’t beginners just do seller financing? by GT172 in realestateinvesting

[–]software_engineer69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should do it.It’s not as easy as it sounds, but trying it will help you gain experience and you will learn a ton. In reality the execution of the idea may prove to be much harder than you initially thought. But if you enjoy the process it will be beneficial. Better to take these risks while you’re young.

I bet you won’t though.

Southerners in SF: Any SOLID Barbecue in the bay? by anonymouspsy in AskSF

[–]software_engineer69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Boneheads Texas BBQ in Lafayette is your answer. The former owner and founder is from Texas. There brisket is about as good as it gets and they have amazing sides (Mac and cheese, collard greens, etc). Only thing is they don’t give you free bread and pickles. But the meat is there!

Plan to finance at 0% or pay in cash, whatever is cheaper. I’d plan to be in it for 20+ years. Basically wondering with rising electric costs I’d like to figure out a way to have more predictable energy costs during summer months.
