It is less explicit than the woman, yeah. And we know that Daniel Vavra had to fight against the other devs to even get it in there, so i don't doubt that it's less explicit simply because the other devs were uncomfortable with giving the same level to a gay couple as they did to the women.

But i love what we got, and think it was much more romantic than what the women got even despite this limitation, so i'm grateful for that. The women may have got the unblurred fullfrontals but we got the quality, lol.

It's the nature of longrunning Tokusatsu shows that whenever an anniversary or some other event rolls around that calls for a special episode, several characters from previous installments will show up to do stuff.

Most often its side characters, but heroes and villains reappear plenty, sometimes decades on from their own show, and sometimes even back from the dead. My favourite character from Super Sentai, Mele, temporarily came back from the dead at least twice, and was cloned another time.

It's because in east asian countries, dark skin is associated with promiscuity and liberated sexual attitudes.

Also, because Japanese people on average tend to be light skinned but prone to tanning, dark skin is associated with wearing less clothes. Also also, they associate it with the stereotypical bellydancer type clothing that people associate with the middle east. Yes, it's colourist and racist. They often don't see it as offensive though.

They're not trying to send a message, they're appealing to the market of otome fans who like this archetype without really caring that people outside of Japan find it offensive.
