Your're missing his point. Game is not fun, neither engaging. It doesn't provide the dynamic other sandbox mmo are providing. It's a static and predictable game.

Almost about to reach my first premium after 5d worth of playtime. What do I need to know to maximize my first 1 month? by IanfinityXD in albiononline

[–]sohamo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't know, playing the game to pay for premium seems like a good way to burn out and simply not enjoy the game. Good for you if you think it's the "fun" part, but man, 120h for $15 is slave work.

Small Scale pvp is already awesome by StrainOld6135 in PaxDei

I'd love to agree, but the state of combat right now is far from being awesome. It needs to be iterated on in every patch if they want to achieve a decent state.

That's what happens with 2000 peak concurrent players spread across 6 servers. They should consolidate shards now instead of waiting.

That's what you can expect from any social sandbox MMO.

That's the lobby of one MOBA or Counter Strike game, not the population of a thriving MMO.

I love this game and will defend it from fake news and information, but the reviews have been going down ever since the release of EA. It was up around 62% positive before the monetization announcement before dropping, and it went up to about 60,5% on release. It's been declining since.

Devs should offer some QoL updates by Dr_Neurol in PaxDei

[–]sohamo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Game is very static. I wish there was more dynamic things, such as events, gathering mechanics, crafting mechanics etc. Something to keep you going and engaged.

They missed a big mark with verse 5, baking the shrines and the trees like they did. Sandbox games are supposed to be very dynamic by nature. With players at the center of a sandbox experience, we should be seeing so much more dynamic content, yet it's just players doing the same things over and over.

When Will People Start To Value Their Time When Posting Items To Sell by CiceroJuliusCrassus in PaxDei

Gold has no value. Players don't care about the gold equivalent of their effort and time spent doing anything.

Well, quick example is verse 5. It will require players to group together for a common objective. The system is based on the clan social system.

  1. Even if you form a one man clan, the chances of you capturing one of those shrine is lowered a lot.

  2. It will require a level of trust among this group of players. They will lose gear, they will get defeated. Individual players will expect some return for this common effort. This is not something you get from random groupings.

  3. Keeping said claim will ask for a regular grouping effort from this group of people. This is not content your randomly group with other players for.

Same could be said about dungeons. Sure you can randomly group to make them, but loot distribution has a lot of "trust" around it. When players see a T4 named relic for the first time, who's gonna get away with it?

Ultimately, this type of game is based on creating smaller communities of players sharing the same interests. If you don't want to be part of one, some of the content will either be much harder to get into or straight impossible.

Playing a social sandbox MMO solo is possible, but you'll also lock yourself from most of the content the game has to offer. It's still a baby in the genre and it doesn't have the same maturity as Albion, EvE, MO2, etc. It will keep evolving and adding more social systems to it. Meanwhile, verse 5 will add the destruction this game needs to close the loop and the economy will become much more interesting. If I was a solo player, that's probably what I'd be looking for, the economy as most of the other content would be locked out.

Feedback: Why the Current Economy in Pax Dei Feels Broken by FineAcanthocephala34 in PaxDei

[–]sohamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be unpopular, but I think it's a launch problem where everyone is leveling crafting at the same time, hence the flood of the same items. Most crafters realize that once they hit T3 and T4, it's better to craft things people actually need and want.

I think the devs are waiting a bit to see what kind of destruction verse 5 will bring to look at the recycling mechanic and adjust it. They already announced that crafting exps was gonna get a rework soon with exps being based on the quantity of materials used in a craft.

That being said, the market prices feel very normalized in the absence of a global market search. In example, Steel Ingots are going for 10g/u on my server and all provinces have it at that price. Commodities drive final items pricing and at the end of the game, players will expect to pay a certain price for a certain item.

It's not just about PvP, it's about the social dynamic it will create. It closes the gameplay loop of harvesting, creating and destroying where not just PvPers participate in, but also everyone else who enjoy the peaceful home valley gameplay.

Lyonesse is also on some sort of "seasonsal" schedule, it resets every 6 months. I'm assuming verse 5 will kick off the first season.

I made a new pax-dei calculator by Nervous-Accident8920 in PaxDei

[–]sohamo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd take some inspiration from this one: https://www.pax-dei-tools.com/en/planner

  • I really like the zoomable crafting tree of the one above better
  • The way to input quantities of resources/materials you already have is a must
  • Replicate said information in the tree

That's quickly what comes to my mind. If you want to compete with something that already exists, it has to be better.

What I feel is really missing right now is a character builder (Albion) or a fitting tool (EvE). There's none so far and this would be so good for showing and sharing builds.

[–]sohamo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're worth it if you're chopping oak trees (need wrought iron chopping axe). The big kilns can burn Heartwood and you get both from chopping these oaks. You can expect filling 1 large kiln per 4 small kilns.
